[b]ok so i know everyone has probably discussed this many times in the past but i am still new and was wondering whether it is better to have low fat or full fat dairy (i love yogurt now - not sure which to get) i had the balkan style last week and 1% this week. the balkan definately had a fuller flavor and was thicker. i am interested to know if the lower fat will aid in weight loss or not?[/b] ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??) ??)

Watch out generally for 'low fat' foods - a lot of them have starch or gum thickeners being mostly avoids. Stoopid thing is, the processed starch (often wheat or corn derived) makes you 'fatter' than the little natural fat in the real food.
one of my pet hates! & hubbie(type A) dislikes the low fat yoghurts - they taste pasty/silty.
and I think somone posted a while back about skim milk being the waste that farmers decades ago would feed to their pigs to fatten them up!

I agree with Carmen that most lowfat dairy contains so much c**p....
and the story about using skimmed milk to fattens pigs up is true (at least here in Denmark)

Anyway another thing I have noticed is
that low fat dairy spikes my blodsugar in a way that full fat doesnīt !
A strange thing is that I use less dairy today
than when I drank skimmed milk
somehow 1 portion of whole yoghurt or milk keeps me staiesfied
while I used to drink 1 litre skimmed milk and eat at least 1 serving of no fat yoghurt pr day !
I think the fat sends signals to my brain = you have enough now- a way the low fat product never did.
full fat dairy contains natural vitamins that no fat products soesnīt they are all added artificial.

In Frances Mayes' book Bella Tuscany, there is a lovely essay within a chapter about why most Italians in the Tuscany region are not fat, though they eat a lot of fat (olive oil, dairy etc) in their diet. She believes the secret is that the food Tuscans eat is very high quality, so a small amount is far more satisfying than foods made with ingredients of inferior quality.

Imo, you're better off eating organic whole-fat yogurt--it's a whole food with few or no fillers or additives, it's usually much better-tasting and far more satisfying. What's the point in eating something loaded with starches, gums and ersatz sugar when the real deal will actually have LESS impact on your body? :)

And as for skim milk being fed to pigs--when I was little my grandpa sold his skim milk to the pig farmer down the road. At that time there was no other use for it! ;)

Usually if you find something "low fat"  they load it full of sugars for some dumb reason.  I guess if you add enough sugar to it it's supposed to taste  closer to the real thing??

Some real fat in your diet isn't bad for you, and it sure beats putting all of those starches, thickeners and sugar in them.  The sugars are much more harmful weight wise than the minimal increase in fat content.

I agree.  Although this is not an excuse to overeat dairy.  More is not necessarily better where many foods are concerned.  Some dairy every day seems to help the B's to have a healthy immune system, and in that way it is a staple for us.  Skim milk products encourage over eating dairy in order to feel satisfied, as others have said.  

But lets not overeat full fat dairy either, just because it's good for us.  We will thrive on a little, and feel emotionally balanced as well.

thanks for the replies. i was just confused because i thought that i had read ( and it does say) in LR4YT to choose low fat dairy - but i must agree that the effect full fat yogurt has is much more satisfying!!! i tend to avoid anything processed so i dont eat anything else "low fat". funny thing is, my dad knows that i eat for my blood type for quite a while now and even though he thinks its bogus...he eats full fat everything all the time and always has... he believes thats what you eat does depend on your ancestry. he is polish (polish farmers are his ancestors) and he grew up and full fat milk, meat, sausages, potatoes... traditional yet simple polish staples because they did not have anything else in those days(lucky them lol)!!! no processed foods but still high carb/fats... and he has always maintained a perfectly balanced figure!!!

Hm I think that your dad in some ways are right ;-)
Most north Europeans seems to have less trouble with dairy tham south Europeans or asians etc....
...but that does not mean it is healthy for them !!!

Did you notice that in typebase it says yoghurt (Whole milk ) and the milk is divided into whole and non fat - it doesnīt really change for Bīs.... but it matters for AB.

I believe blood type B's can tolerate moderate to full fat dairy products better than all of the blood groups represented.

Blood type A's do best on cultured dairy products such as yogurt and kefir, as stated in Live Right 4 Your Type.

B nonnies are a little different where quantities are concerned.  My experience is that I do best with cultured full fat dairy and ghee, but drinking milk just doesn't work for me.

As an AB I am meant to choose low fat milk but I'm afraid I just can't stomach it. I eat full fat cheeses and drink whole milk without problems. My blood lipid readings are brilliant, by the way. Keep in mind too that the calcium in whole milk (not in skim or non fat varieties) is better absorbed by the body. If you are slightly lactose intolerant like me (I developed this only after a bout of mild food poisoning years ago) then skim milk is more likely to irritate you because the levels of milk sugar are higher in the absence of the milk fat. Finally, I've never found a low fat yoghurt worth writing home about. 'Silty' is a perfect description for most of the stuff, Carmen.
