Dr. D had suggested taking phenylalanine in conjunction with calcium, in order to get the calcium to absorb better.  

I'm taking Phytocal, but I want to know precisely how much phenylalanine I should take when I take it.  Too little won't have a benefit, and too much, I've been reading, will disturb your blood pressure and cause migranes.

So, how much phenylalanine?

MFC = Membrane Fluidizer Cocktail, which is described in both ER4YT and LR4YT.

I was surfing this website last night, and I ran across an article by Dr. D'adamo where he was saying that phenylalanine inhibits intestinal alkaline phosphatase, and that's why sweet potatoes & yams were avoid for A's, because they are high in phenylalanine & effectively reduce already low IAP for them.
It might be worth confirming...
I think I did a search for "serum alkaline phosphatase", sorry I don't have the link!

production of IAP. Since non-secretors don't make very much to inhibit,
the amount induced is more significant, since by the time the IAP is
produced, the amino acid is long gone. I think vitamin A does that as well.
At one point I was going to put it into the Phytocal minerals, but you can't
give it to everybody.

For the more technically inclined, phenylalanine is called an 'uncompetitive
inhibitor'. It only works when the concentrations of the enzyme substrate (IAP and
some fat in this case) is high. On the other hand, the presence of phenylalanine
and fat (but minus the IAP) seems to induce some production of IAP.

I've been doing phenylalanine 500mg 2/day and can say it is helpful from an energy perspective.  One a.m. one noon.  If I take it after 4:00, I'm too alert at bedtime, but of course, this is one NS experience.  Take care.  CB.

I started taking the phenylalanine a few days ago and lost about two pounds.  It seems that when I do eat meat it causes fluid retention, but not if I supplement with the phenylalanine.  Just my observations so far.

First, red meat and pork are out for us, chicken unless it's organic, I wouldn't touch and frankly based on ocean contamination, I'm reluctant to do fish.  The fisheries also have some problems based on location and other things.  My bias about non-secretors is that we must call on more primal systems for clearing things from our systems.  I occasionally eat chicken or turkey and occasionally fish, but sourcing is a biggy.  And now they are going to be pasteurizing our organic almonds.  Where does it end.  Take care.  CB.

Hi CB.  Maybe you are on a higher plane than me and only eat beneficials.   :)  But I do like lamb and duck, which are neutral for A nonnies. Both can be high fat, especially the duck.  I do limit meat to the 2 - 4 servings per week as recommended but I'm finding 500 to 1000 mg of the phenylalanine after a meal to be helpful.

And, yes, the damage that greed has done to our food supply is heartbreaking.

I don't seem to do well with lamb and haven't tried duck.  So I stick with chicken and turkey, but only the number of designated servings per week.  How have you found the phenylalanine makes you feel.   Take care.  CB.

duck is a very greasy meat.  If you can't handle lamb, I would guess that you can't handle duck, either.  But I could be wrong, of course.  Only actually eating it will settle the question.

I don't know, haven't gone for the more extensive testing.  Does it make that much difference?

Mrs. Rodgers, you are up early for Oregon.  One of the differences between A1 and A2 as I recall, is A2 has a more challenging time with carbs.   Don't know much about the Lewis double negative (a-b-) or much about the NN for that matter.  Take care.  CB

True, but for some reason in non-secretors it seems to paradoxically spark IAP activity.

Actually, I don't know why.  

It does seems to work as an inhibitor of IAP in A secretors, but then again the A antigen itself apparently inhibits IAP,  so perhaps there is synergism there that is absent in non-secretors.

It's not supposed to work, but it does. Then again homeopathy and vaccinations are not supposed to work either.

Perhaps Ron-O-Non remembers the twisted face I made at IFHI 2007 when I told him this..

Yes, I remember that twisted face.  Ha ha ha ha ha ha

I've been taking it with my calcium and I think I do feel a difference.  I have much more vigor when I'm lap-swimming the butterfly, for example, and jumping rope.

If only there was some natural food source of alkaline phosphatase, though.  I was able, however, to find a natural food source of fucosyl transferase, if that would help things at all.
