Has anyone else noticed the following problem:

I really love red meat and it's encouraged on my diet, but I find that if I have too much of it during a given week, I start to feel really tense, achy, and a bit hostile.

Maybe it's a testosterone thing or something; I don't know.  On one hand, it makes me feel very solid and muscularly strong (and it also stops my IBS symptoms cold, which is a real relief) but, on the other hand, I start feeling a bit too "HULK SMASH!"for my tastes.  

Another thing I think I've noticed, is perhaps that my neck and upper back muscles tense up so much, that maybe they're pinching on the nerves of my brachial plexus and elsewhere, and I'm noticing aches and numbness, especially along my left arm and in my left hand.  When I ease off the red meat for awhile, these problems seem to dwindle down to almost nothing.  Is this a description of "thoracic outlet syndrome", or would that also include circulatory problems?  

Has anyone else experienced this?

GIGO(garbage in garbage out) may be happening or your kidneys are not excreting ammonia efficiently from  meat protein synthesis...so either better grass fed meat or drink more water

Hulk Smash is a sure sign your chatacolamines are circulating in excess in your body..I usually do about 30 pushups twice a day to get rid of the feeling...you will start to look like the Hulk without the Smash feelings

Does this usually only happen with men?  I don't get that feeling at all when I eat red meat.

O hunter gatherer male survival mode....must go out and "Smash" some meat for the tribe.....eat it...relax for a few days...then later go out again

Can someone explain to me what this hulk smash thing is? I've never heard of it before.....One thing I've noticed about eating red meat, which I LOVE and makes me feel good is that it causes my blood sugars to rise hours down the road (like in the early morning when I've had a steak for dinner). This is not a good thing, but it is weird how it raises my blood sugars when it's a protein, not a carb.

if you ever read comic books...Hulk was this green behemoth...a man mutated into a monster due to gamma rays and he (Dr Bruce Banner) would turn into the Hulk when he was made very mad..and when he did he would smash things.

Thanks for the explanation....Hmmmm....I definitely don't ever feel that way. I DO feel more strong and muscular but not smashy.

sounds like you're getting enough exercise and eating right

I have to admit I could get just a BIT more exercise (I walk a ton - you have to in NYC) and do interval training sometimes. I'm about 90% compliant. The typical avoids (in small amounts) I have are like cinnamon, carrageenan (in some products), and other spices, and when I eat out I'm sure I eat hidden avoids. I most definitely stay away from wheat, corn, grains, dairy, and soy.

My husband, on the other hand, is the one who feels "Smashy" when he doesn't get his exercise!!

as a nonnie you should definitely stay away from carrageenan which is found in milks like rice almond and soy...there are alternatives that don't have it as an ingredient

Yes, when I don't get enough, I get really edgy, and get a feeling like I need to run away from everything - it's weird.

Do you personally notice any weight change (non-muscle) depending on which red meat source you use?

Interesting, definitely. But you don't crave a salt lick or pine needles or anything?  ;D


Oh, by the way - regarding the catecholamines comment earlier... for that you also may want to read up at NAP on Catechol (and its ingredient rhodiola).

Glad to hear it.  

I find that the only way to get rid of these feelings are to do some intensive exercise, such as swimming the breaststroke or something like that, and/or cutting down on the red meat.

I get peaceful and energetic when I eat red meat, a combination of which I never thought I'd live to see.

or are you not that strict?
the reason I ask is because down here, I have a hard time finding those.
I have to unfortunately settle for what is available.

This is probably longer than it needs to be, LOL, but:

Lola, I don't know about farming practices in Mexico but for what it's worth... I've long known I had a corn sensitivity and so have sought foods that don't contain it. We have a great chain of clean, nice 'dollar stores' in Southern California called 99 Cents Only. I started going there for things like paper towels and then wondered how their canned goods were as they can be 1/3 the price of some other grocery stores. I don't eat canned items a lot, but was pleasantly surprised to find out that a lot of products - which originated in countries south of the U.S. and were probably originally meant to be sold in those markets - had much less junk in them than products marketed in mainstream U.S. grocers. I saw far, far less corn syrup added, and often not such a sophisticated and potentially troubling melange of additives. The quality of most things has actually been quite good.

So, all this is to say that while I don't know for sure, it's possible Mexico has, all things considered, a more favorable supply of mainstream foods than does the U.S. in terms of source ingredients and processing.

I have never really had a weight problem...but grass fed beef or buffalo has a lot less fat in it and considering it's a little more expensive I tend not to eat the large t bones I used to devour...it's also rich in CLA.. Conjugated Linoic Acid which is a known cancer fighter...higher in beta carotene, higher in vitamin E and Omega 3, lower in calories as well...great for O's who struggle with weight

thanks for posting RT!

I actually cook from scratch......so haven t bought anything canned for ages......got tired of looking and reading ingredients in hopes.......you know.

grass fed organic is what I am looking for in terms of animal protein sources.....wild organic for fish, etc/

think that will kick my diet up a notch.....but I do fine with what I have available so far.

I ate a hamburger last night and almost immediately my abdomen swelled up to second-trimester proportions.  

But when I took two Deflects, along with two astragalus, yeast cleanse, zinc and rose hips, almost immediately I started feeling relief.  And within 30 minutes, let's just say that I'm glad I wasn't sitting anywhere near an open flame.  When they first opened King Tut's tomb, I'm sure it smelled better.

after you eat grass fed...most regular grain fed (especially ground beef) meat is very foul

I know astragalus is an adaptogen recommended for Os but can you remind me as to why you think it might've helped on this occasion - along with the zinc and rose hips? Thanks. (It's more apparent to me why the Deflects and yeast cleanse likely helped.)
