I finally got my test results back - I'm a nonnie. Whilst this means I'm more at risk of various health problems than I thought, it does mean I'm allowed beer and bananas now. Both dearly beloved foods that I missed greatly whilst trying to do the BTD without knowing my status. I've gone through the typebase making lists of what I can and can't have, and the anxiety of not knowing how to proceed is back again. It'll take a while to relearn the lists. I'd just got to the stage where I didn't need to consult the book to remember whether I could eat something - now it's all unknown again.

The way wheat is now completely banned instead of wheat flour being neutral makes sense to me. I have binge-eating disorder, and bread and cakes have long been major triggers for me - and are almost always what I reach for when I binge. It's somehow reassuring to know that there's a reason I always went for these, although it's hard to think that I can no longer have them ever ever. Can anyone suggest some alternatives that I could try to see if they are a decent substitute that don't trigger binges?

Have you tried spelt? Spelt replaces/substitutes for wheat quite well.

Welcome Talitha to the royals. ;)  Everyone slide over one. ;)  Now that you do know you are a nonnie...you can pick up an A non-secretor blood type card from NAP and that will make it much easier for you. :D

Ezekiel bread works for me.  Rye and rice crackers work, too.  (Rice is my preferred grain, at this point.)

Hello!    Non, pas de vacances, malheuresement.  Pas encore.  Thanks for asking.  I've just been hanging around as usual . . . not posting much because usually several people have already said what I would say.

brown rice doesn't make me want to binge, but white rice does...rye sourdough bread is the only bread I've found that I can eat one slice of and be satisfied (put a loaf of white sourdough in front of me and blink...it's gone).

I notice for me, if I get to craving and binging on carbs, I fight back by making a vegetable smoothie using tofu, raw or frozen veggies like broccoli, green beans, spinach, parsley, pineapple juice. peanut butter and soy milk.  It is so satisfying and the cravings for breads goes.

sometimes I will give into the craving if I know I haven't had my "daily allowance" of carbs so I will then eat 1 slice of spelt bread that I baked with peanut butter, or I will eat a serving of rye crisp with peanut butter.  I give into the craving at times but in a controled fasion.

That somehow does not sound appetizing...sorry. But I bet if I tried it, I would like it... ;)

True, it may not sound very appetizing :P  but the peanut butter and pineapple makes the taste quite pleasant.   ;)

No, I just use a blender on the "liquidfy" setting.  When it it is done it looks like a cream veggie soup or a sauce.

I'd definitely have to try it to see if I could drink it.... :-)  The frozen broccoli would be soft but I can't imagine it with raw broccoli.

I sometimes add carrots and a little bit of tomato to give it a more rounded taste.  One time I put in some beets and then I had a hard time enjoying it.  :P  So now I leave out the beets.   The only problem I have with making this with raw broccoli is that I get gas after a couple of hours.  What I'm trying to do is make my own V-8 so I can get my veggies into me.  ;D  I love to experiment.

V-8 Juice

1¼ hours 15 min prep
15 lbs ripe tomatoes, chopped (you want 8 quarts chopped)

1 large bell pepper, chopped fine

2 large onions, chopped fine

1 1/2 cups diced celery

2 bay leaves

12 fresh basil leaves or 2 teaspoons dried basil

2 teaspoons prepared horseradish

1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

3 teaspoons sugar

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1/2 cup lemon juice


1. Place all ingredients, except lemon juice, in a large stainless pot. Bring to a boil then simmer for 30 minutes-all veg should be soft.
2. Press veg through a fine sieve or food mill.
3. Return juice to pot, stir in lemon juice and bring to a boil.
4. Pour into clean hot jars,
