I don't know if this is as common, but I seemed to have hit it right on the head when it comes to opposites attracting one another.  My husband and I are truly opposite.  He is tall, I am not so tall.  He is bald, I have long hair.  He's the night owl, I am a morning person, he's a he and I'm a she, (now that's opposite!)  AND, he is a type O and I'm a type A.  Now how opposite can you get?

When it comes to meal planning at times it feels like I'm leading a 3 ring circus around here in the kitchen, beef stew in the crock pot and bean barley soup with greens in the soup stock pot.  We have been married for nearly 16 years and for 10 of those years I have been making double meals or a single we both can handle.  I know type O's can handle tomato and A's can't.  My husband, though an O, hates tomatoes, squash and onions!  So, it was in the past couple of months that I discovered the no tomato spagetti sauce.  It is a winner in this house.  This past weekend I used the base of this sauce to make homemade barbecue sauce since he wanted to cook out on the grill.  I then divided the sauce and put hot pepper in his pan and left mine the way I made it originally.

At times, though, this type O wants to eat type A foods, like peanut butter and yogurt.  Someone gave me a great oatmeal cookie recipe for my type O.  That keeps him out of my peanut butter cookies!  ;D  Now, to keep him from eating my yogurt (haven't figured that one out yet.)  ;)  But I can accept a challenge!  I'll figure it out. no sweat!

Anyway,  are there any other "opposites attract" stories?

There are many.  I think that most of my clients (and many of my friends) are in O/A marriages.

My father is an A, and my mother is an O.  I hear of this match-up quite a lot.

Oh, I remembered this morning something else that my husband and I are opposite in, he is right handed and I am left handed.  ;D  

Last evening I made up tuna fish sandwich for the two of us for our bedtime snack. The bread I made from the CR4YT book.   I used homemade mayo that I made with canola oil, egg, lemon juice and boiling water.  I'm supposing the boiling water and lemon juide cooked the eggs enough.   He still wanted his yogurt, though.

I know A and O are more opposite than A and B, but some days I feel like my B husband and I are total opposites.  Other days, our similarities make life much easier.  I like being understood.  :)  I don't think I've ever been understood by an O, though I think if I met some of the Os on this site we could be friends as long as you keep your nasty bloody meat away from me.  :)

I am not sure if this will work for the yogurt or not.  If your husband is a secretor, try making a smoothie:  something like ripe bananas (which will give it creaminess like yogurt) mixed with various fruits.  Some fresh pineapple, including the inner core will add some sweetness and tartness like the yogurt.  If he likes strawberry yogurt, try adding some fresh or frozen strawberries.  If he likes boysenberry yogurt, try adding fresh or frozen boysenberries.  Then add some protein powders (such as a pure soy protein powder or a pure rice protein powder).   This will also help add to his protein intake.   With summer fruits coming into season, you can also add peach or apricot.  

As far as the peanut butter - maybe get a jar of almond butter.  Put a little on celery sticks or just some on a tablespoon.  It makes a good alternative snack.

Giving up yoghurt was one of the biggest challenges I had. I did it gradually. However, I have immediately replaced cow milk yoghurt with waterbuffalo, sheep or goat milk yoghurts. Goat/sheep milk is a tier-2 avoid for O's.

However when I became aware of the tickling in my throat (after reading in on Heidi's OtD column) I drifted away from eating it. I now treat it as an infrequent neutral, once a month or every other month.

I agree about being understood by O's.  I have learned to commincate with Type O's since sometimes it seems my husband and I are in differant books, (let alone on the same page!)  My mother in law is an O and I believe my sister in law is an O and they are on differant platues than where I am.  I accept them for who they are and work real hard in trying to understand them in there thinking.

The bananna smoothie sounds scrumptious!  My hubby refuses to eat bananas because of the high sugar count in them.  I may get soy yogurt and mix all the nice berries and pineapple in it.

The almond butter is a super idea, but almond butter here in Pennsylvania cost close to $10.00 a regular size jar.  :o   So that is out the window....UNLESS!  I could make it myself, I don't think I have the means to make my own almond butter.  

The other thing I noticed with my type O hubby he is constantly on the move and I go at a snails pace compared to him.  I get more work done if I go slow then to agressively tare into the project.

That's good news Cathy, I mean in order for him to drop eating yoghurt ;)

You can make him aware, it's so easy, after a few spoons, you start feeling that tickle, and once you are aware of it, it is pretty annoying ;D

I'm an O positive secretor and my roomie is AB negative, and more than likely a nonnie. You can't get too much more opposite than that! :) We are quite different in temperament and style as well. She does not follow the BTD however, and is addicted to beef and chicken the way I'm addicted to wheat. I have to act fast if I want leftover pot roast for breakfast or lunch--she usually gets to it before I do!

Commercial almond butter *is* so expensive! If you have a food processor, you can make your own. It doesn't come out as creamy as the store bought (ime) unless you add some oil, but it sure tastes good.

I'm not sure; try it! You may want to soak your nuts beforehand to aid in digestion and to soften them up (although I do neither).

I feel the same way you do with my peanut butter cookies.  I have to hide them or hurry up and eat it before my O gets them. ;)  Sounds like I'm S-o-o-o possesive of my foods....."It's MINE!!! Don't touch!"  LOL  ;D ;D

Maybe you could find a 'secret' stashing place and have them when he's not around. :-)
My A husband and I are like night and day. Over the years, he has learned to accept our differences. Until the past year or 2, he constantly expected me to be just like him.  Took a bit of  >:( to make him understand it tho. After 'splaining it nicely several times, I just flat up told him, he needs to accept that I like different things than he, just like I accept it w/ him. I don't understand his likings, as he doesnt mine, but we dont need to. We just need to accept them and get on w/ it.  ;D

Beings my hubby is tall, he has a hard time bending, so I can put them down very low in the refrigerator.  ;D  I to have learned to accept him as he is and he has accepted me for who I am.  It deffinitely is a life's lesson to accept one another for the differances that we have. :)

It's rather arrogant to expect people to be like us.  The thing is, if all the world was type A, everything would be done very thoroughly, but it would take forever and a day.  With Bs around, we actually have fresh, new ideas.  With Os around, jobs get done and there's somebody to delegate.  With ABs around, we learn to lighten up and relax.

What is it with yogurt?  My B husband gets throat tickles and mucus when he eats it, so he stopped partaking.  I can't eat it because it makes me terribly dizzy for 12-24 hrs before it works its way through my digestive system, blows out, and then I'm fine again.

We have found that a Vita-Mix has been a worthwhile investment.  You can make nut butters, grind your own flour, make mayo, whip up amazing Italian ice-like "ice cream," and anything you can imagine.  They're pretty expensive, but you save a whole lot of money making things yourself (rice flour for pennies/lb instead of Arrowhead Mills prices), plus you can control ingredients completely.

TypeOSecreter, where do you find boysenberries?  I've never seen them frozen, fresh, or otherwise, though I love the boysenberry Spritzers.

Would you mind sharing this recipe. I do miss ice cream but it's not worth the 'aftermath'.  :o          If I drink milk, within a hour or so, I'll be clearing my throat and for some time. My O brother got a bad bout of respiratory illness a while back from drinking milk.  :-/

Ah, yes, icecream aftermath.  It's so much not worth it that when everybody's eating icecream around me (like at a church icecream social) I don't even have any smidgen of desire to partake.

Take frozen fruit, agave nectar and a tiny bit of water.  Process in the Vita-Mix for a minute or so till it's icecream-like.  Experiment with fruit types and amounts of agave and water.  Also, you can use fresh fruit and ice cubes.

Ribbit, I love your substitute for ice cream... just in time for the summer months!  My husband still eats his ice cream.  This will help me to get my hubby off the ice cream and possibly the yogurt!

I used to have a boysenberry vine in a huge planter.  When I moved, I had to leave the planter there.  I saw boysenberry bareroot plants at Home Depot about a month ago.  I wanted to plant them, but unfortunately my property is not large enough.  I'd have runners into my neighbors' yards.

Boysenberries are only available for about one month, usually June-July.  If I am lucky, I can buy them at our Farmer's Market in San Luis Obispo, CA.  I usually go pick them at a place called Blue Sky Gardens U-Pick-Em Berries in Atascadero, CA (out on the back roads).  I always have to call ahead of time because the weather must be just exactly right for the boysenberries to be ready to be picked.  Then I freeze the berries for later use.  I like them in a cobbler best.  My father used to have many berry vines, and my mother would freeze boysenberries in quart containers.  My mother made boysenberry pies that wouldn't quit.

Boysenberries are horribly expensive, even when I pick them.  You have to be careful because I've purchased some from a vendor at the Farmer's Market, and I didn't think the flavor was that good - rather dull.  A fresh basket or two that taste good is like finding a goldmine.

Another farm around here where I pick raspberries carries olallieberries, but I think they are avoids for my blood type (a cross between a boysen and a blackberry).

Being I'm on the east coast I'll have to look for boysenberries at the nearby markets.

Last night I started up beef stew in the crockpot. So, 3:00 am my hubby wakes up and smells his stew cookin'.   :)  I had so much to do yesterday that I have to bake bread in my breadman bread machine and mow at the same time, cook stew while sleeping!  My honey thought that was clever.  At times, I wish I was a type O, their foods seems seem more appetizing like beef stew, lamb chops and hot spicy foods!  I'll just "pretend" while I eat my tofu and veggie salads.  ;D

Opposites do attract! Like you I'm type A and my SO is type O. We are both on the BTD Diet and cooking takes a little bit longer, but I'm exploring ways to combine our meals. It's just really hard to cook his meat and having to taste it then not having any for dinner, but I'm definitely trying to stick to this diet.

Welcome, aboard, wizz!!  It is good that you have the determination to stick to your BTD as italybound has mentioned!  At times it will seem like an uphill battle but the results are worth the effort.  At times I will have my hubby taste test it for me....there are times I wished I did have him taste test!  ;D
Cooking for an opposite you kind of have to think like them (foodwise) in order to get the right foods in to them that does them well.  That's tough at times.

This morning, I started making the oatmeal cookies.  I made it so that it is compatable for the both of us.  I substited the butter with applesauce.  Well, I decided to add chopped walnuts to the cookie batter.  While doing so I saw that the nuts did not grind but turned into mush.  Hmmmm...I started experimenting with the mushed walnuts.  I then remembered what Drea had mentioned about making Almond butter.  I then said," hmmm....walnut butter!"  So, I roasted some walnuts and then later put them in the blender and added a tiny bit of oil and ..... WALAH!  Walnut butter!!!  "Cool" said I!  "I wonder if I could make walnut butter cookies instead of peanut butter cookies?"  That will be my next "experiment"!  Haha! ;D  Then I wouldn't have to hide cookies from my hubby.

I see no reason why you couldn't substitute the walnut butter for peanut or almond butter.
When I make walnut butter, I use walnut oil as the oil to 'smooth' it out. :-)  Yummy and beneficial. :-)

Good idea to have him taste test for me, except he's not around much when I cook.  :(

I'm a B and my husband is an A.  I'm 5 ft. 8 in. and he is 5 ft. 10 in. so we're fairly even in height.  We are both optimists and wake up looking forward to the day.  We both like classical music, he sings off-key and I play the piano  ;D.  I give little speeches which show my indignation at the wrongs in this world.  He listens patiently.  When I want to know something in the field of mechanics or mathematics, he explains.  When I don't understand, he explains a different way until I understand.

We are very compatible.

As for meals, I cook my lamb and vegetables for us and he cooks whatever protein he is going to have.  

If I had known about BTD while the children were growing up I would be cooking BTD for everyone even though there might be four blood types.  That's how much of a believer I am.

you can use flax in place of eggs.........I think it's 1 T flax and 3 T water. I think you have to let it set for a while. Maybe someone else will come on w/ all the correct info. I did try this w/ a cake and it was a disaster (and it was a very expensive cake  :o). I was told to use the whole amount but I have a feeling if I had used 1 T PER EGG, it might have been ok. Have never tried it again. Please let us know if you try it and how it turns out.  :)

Well, it's been a week without yogurt and my hubby noticed there is no yogurt in the refrigerator!   >:(  ( ;))  I said, "We should't have dairy any way."  I've been making spelt bread and he has been devouring it....he just loves the baked goods I do up so they don't stay around for very long.  

I have a question, should I be worrying over him eating so much spelt bread, since spelt is neutral for Type O's?

Well, I just descovered yet another opposite that my hubby and I have.  But with this opposite, we actually have more in common!  He is a Type O Secretor and now I've descovered I am a non-secretor.  Hey, hey!!  We can share a banana, now,  ;D along with lamb and lots of little fishies.  I feel I have been converted to a Type O.  (ha ha!!)  I can't handle the grain, which I knew all along, just like my hubby.  Are we alike or not?  ;)

Hmm... I think as you go along, you find similarities because focusing on the opposites is HARD WORK!  (Especially when it comes to cooking for a multiple type clan.

I'm an A, my hubby is a B.  My lovely B has followed the diet on his own while he travels (for work... all week long).  He avoids corn like there's no tomorrow and is THRILLED about higher corn prices due to ethanol use because he hopes that more companies will return to beet or cane sugar (or rice syrup or...) in food.  Funny, huh?

We're about opposite.  I'm short, he's over a foot taller than me.  He has blue eyes, mine are brown.  I'm a leftie and he's right handed.  He is thrillingly brilliant, quiet and an introvert, while I'm smart, sassy and an extrovert.

I met my first hubby when he was home on leave direct from the South Pacific during WW11.  He was 6ft/5in and had that sailor hat tipped just so;  and I fell in love right then and there. I was 17 and he was 19 when we married.  He could have eaten steak 3 times per day, and I do not have a clue as to his blood type...and at that time would not have given a hoot.
He literally dropped dead of a heart attack at 49.
I was a widow 12 years when I met my second hubby and was 59 years old.  He had been a sailor too during the war{guess I was in a rut}.  He was short and could eat pork 4 times per day.  He died with kidney failur after 9 years of marriage.
I don't think either of them ate a full bowl of salad in the years I knew them.  I don't know if this tells me anything.
Besides their stature, they were as different as two men could be.  However I wanted something different in the 2 different stages of my life.  I accepted each of them the way they were...acceptance is the key word when you make the commitment.  I have been a widow now for almost 10 years, and acceptance is no longer in my vocabulary.

Yes, I totally agree to the hard work.:)  The last 10 years was a challenge, so I would focus on what can both of eat, (make life a little bit more managable.)

It sounds like you are more of an opposite with your hubby than I am with mine.   ;)

I met my first hubby when he was home on leave direct from the South Pacific during WW11.....
 My grandfather also fought in the South Pacific during WWII.  He was in the Army in the Pacific Isles.  It was deffinitely a hard time then. He survived the war, lived to be 70 and died of congested heart failure.

 Being married to someone who is bit opposite is a test of true love and acceptance.  What's fun is finding out what simularities do we have.

The story of your marriages is so interesting, Ruthie.  Isn't it amazing how our tastes change during the years?  Certain aspects of us stay constant, though.  I got a kick out of the fact that you say acceptance is no longer in your vocabulary.  I do know what you mean.

Hey NH Girl...You are so right about hard times back then.  There were no jobs for the returning servicemen, but the govt gave them 52/20 for a year.
We budgeted $1.00 for Sat nite.  Beer was 25 cents a bottle.  We each had two and danced all nite to a 6 piece band. I can still hear the music:  Dorsey brothers, Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Woody Herman, Vaughn Monroe...just to name a few.

I have an album of Glenn Miller.  Love his music!  I was kind of tall for jitterbugging, though.  I'm a fox trot kind of gal. ;)

When I worked at the assisted living close to where I live I would get out those old songs for them and sing along with them.  It was so precious, I felt like I went back in time with them.

I so much agree.............not only is that fun, but the elderly are so entertaining in just listening to the stories of their lives. My grandma wrote her memoirs, so to speak. 4 books, and one prob unfinished, but I can never thank her enough for sharing all that. My uncle put her words to page, printed and gave them to all the family. He printed just as she wrote it, so when you read it, it is really like listening to HER talking. He said he started to clean it up, but then thought it wouldn't sound so much like her and he was absolutely right. Of all my books, I treasure these the most. I guess I really should have them in a much safer place.  :)

That sounds really interesting, italybound.  Thank you for sharing this about your grandma.  I bet the books are really interesting to read.  I love to hear of how things used to be and how they survived the hard times.

Yeah, it was interesting to learn that either my g'pa, his dad or g'pa (can't remember which) was offered a job as lookout for the Jesse James Gang. At the time of the offer he did not know who they were. Glad he turned it down, either way.  ;)
