I am new to the group and now that I've been identified as a A+ non-scretor, I took the liberty to check my wife and 4 children. We are 2 and 2. My wife is O (secretor status still unclear) and my kids are 2 A+s and 2 Os. also (secretor status still unclear) What in the world shall I do about us eating together? Wish there was an easy way to do this. The ones who love bananas can only eat kiwis and the kiwi lovers want bananas. Anybody have some ideas for me?

Welcome dquartemont!

Why not check into your member center (the link is located at the top right of the page), scroll down until you find Avatar settings, and pick out a beautiful BTD shield avatar.  This makes it much easier for the other members to answer your questions; no one has to ask you each time you post a question.

And, if you like, you can add a message or more information below your shield, by going to the Profile Information section in the Member Center and typing in the Personal Message box.  Many members add their location, their Rh+/-, MN blood typing information or just something thatís special to them.

There are several members here who have multiple type households.  I'm sure they will chime in on meal planning ideas.  In the mean time, you can check out the Cook Right 4YT forum.  You can also check into The Nonnie Clubhouse for tips and great information since you are now a "royal" as Isa would say.

An A and O house hold is not that bad, concentrate on all the things you guys can both have, making lists help. I come from a family who has all 4 blood types sitting down at the table for dinner many times. My mom is an O, my stepdad is a B, my boyfriend is an AB, all secretors and I am an A nonnie. We all follow the diet and some how manage pretty well. It helps to make lots of veggie and side dishes that every one can have and then make two main protein dishes one for As and ABs and one for Os and Bs. And remember both Os and As can have chicken and turkey. Good luck and you will get used to it. Oh and dont fret about the fruit so much, at least their eating it.

For A nonnies bananas are neutral. They are Bennies for all O's.
Don't know what to suggest to replace bananas for an A secretor????


Kiwi is is neutral for all A'a nd Avoid for all O's
Consider offering Strawberries they taste simular to Kiwi.
Strawberries are neutral for all A's and O secretors. Avoid for O nonnies.

please check that I got it right.

I would encourage you to make a food list of items that both blood groups can share.  

Shared meals can be based around beneficial and neutral vegetables, a large salad, and meat, fish, eggs for blood type O's; and fish, beans, legumes, eggs, acceptable meats for blood type A's.

Sauteed vegetables, steamed vegetables, grilled vegetables, stir fried vegetables can be a starting base; you can separate half of the vegetables and add appropriate protein and/or grain sources for each blood group when serving.

Here's something I do (not all the time, but when I can):

I cook every other day for the varying types.  For example, one day I'll fix a bunch of A foods and store the leftovers for the next day.  Next day, I'll cook AB or B foods, I'll eat leftovers, and then store the AB or B leftovers for them to eat the next day while I cook for me.  That way I'm not standing in the kitchen for hours every day trying to cook 2 or 3 completely different meals.  If we eat foods we have in common, we end up eating a lot of neutrals.  So for me it's sometimes easier to make extra and refrigerate it for the next day (or freeze it for crazy days).  

A big part of my really hopes this next baby isn't an O.

You'll eventually figure out something that works for your family.  There are days when I get really frustrated and throw up my hands and say, "We'll all just starve to death!  I can't cook like this anymore!"  Then I get over it and figure something out.

Thank you for sharing your tip, Ribbit.

Often, I have found that it takes alot of personal experimenting, pre-planning, prep work, and perhaps making food lists/grocery lists.

I believe cooking big batches in one sitting and freezing pre-portioned foods and meals can assist tremendously.

We share neutral food for dinner or neutral for 1/benefical for one type

- and eat the beneficials that are avoids for the other type at breakfast or lunch - that way we both can share food and eat our bennies.
I have made a list with shared food- and seperate food- makes it easy.

There are alot of shared beneficial and neutral vegetables amongst the ABO blood groups.  A big, fresh green salad can be shared by everyone, as well.  This food category is a nice foundation to start for meal times which everyone can share.  

Separate protein and grain options can be added individually as needed.

We enjoy taco salad a lot.  I brown ground turkey, put in cumin, salt and garlic powder, and have red pepper flakes on the side for my husband.  Then I chop up various veggies  and serve in separate little bowls (lettuce, tomato, green onions, avocado (mixed with fresh garlic, salt, and lime juice), and whatever else, and offer sour cream, salsa and grated cheese on the side too.  I serve this over a bed of brown rice and make enough for leftovers the next day.  We don't even miss the corn chips.

dquartemont, how are you making out with your meal plans. Has it gotten any better for you. Once you've been eating this way for a while it does get easier to make meals for the whole family in one shot. Hope you doing okay.

Rice noodles are very versatile & everyone can have them

Myriad things can be done with ground turkey

Get a turkey and break it down - the breast makes great turkey tenders with honey & mustard sauce. Roast the rest and make soup from it. Rice flour makes a luxurious thickener.

Sweet potato french fries

vegan chocolate cake with spelt flour

vegan banana bread with walnuts

smoothies with comlpiant fruits

Ezekiel makes dinner rolls - slice and pop in the toaster (quick!)

Zola, these suggestions sound scrumptuous!!!  Beings I just found out that I am a nonnie I need some neat ideas of fixin meals and snacks that comply to a Type O secretor and Type A non secretor. household. :)
