I'm curious - why are you waiting til the 24th? Shipping issues?
Drooling was frustratingly slow for me til I googled pictures of sushi, LOL! In case you need ideas to make it go quicker.
...I was sure I was a secretor, too. It's a good thing I was sitting down when I read the computer screen for my results :o :o ??) :P...got over it, and when I adjusted my diet, voila', more problems went bye-bye! ;D The moral to this story is Knowing Is Better, no matter what the answer. Knowledge is power. I'm going oboy oboy oboy for you! ;D

I'm in South East Asia, and the local NAP outlet waits for groups to get the test done so that the shipping charges work out cheaper for us. BTD is relatively new in this part of the world...and the awareness is slowly growing

Yeah, I really want to know!!!!

Great news...once one finds out their secretor status, it enables them to have more optimal health as there are slight nuances with food rating changes and portion/frequency recommendations.

I feel it is better to be informed rather than having to second guess oneself with eating decisions on a daily basis--especially if one is practicing the BTD way of eating and living for a lifetime.

Dr. D talks about this in LR4YT, but to be honest it confuses me a bit too.  It's very technical.  Curious about this myself and I'm sure someone will be able to explain it.

I was supposed to get this for you.  Dang.  Give me some time to track it down.  I'll leave this thread open to remind me.

It requires a specific blood test to determine A1/A2 & MN subtype status.  There is a place that does the testing....you just have to get a doctor to write the scrip for it.

Your A+ = (ABO=A)+(rhesus=+)

You will need to have another blood draw and two tests done to determine your A1/A2 and MN subtypes.

You can get a full serotyping done from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine.

Testing includes:
ABO type
A1 or A2 subtype
Rh +/-
Lewis type
MN type

You should probably make sure you have a way of getting the blood drawn before ordering the test kit. Some people have said they haven't found anyone to do it, at least without a doctor's lab order.

I´m not sure - but maybe

that was were I got mine.
A1 and A2 - you do not have to worry about ;-)
- just subtypes of A´s.

I hoped to find a lab here in Switzerland... anyway you're right, I'll order the kit online .

Smaccc to your Sienna too.

::) Daniela ;D....you can do it in Switzerland only by a bloodtest called Lewis test, shows you up what's about it = (a+b-) = nonnie
              (a-b+) = sechi
(a-b-) = none of both but should eat like a nonnie :-)

about A1 and A2, doesn't bother you because you are both O's ;) ;D...Those are subgroups of the A's
likewise me, I am an A2B nonnie, there are A1,A2 and a very seldom subgroups A3 (bantu) therefore
we do have different recommendations for the foods in the LR4YT....and now I am too lazy to explain the MM..MN..NM thingies, because  I don't remember em exactly ::) :B :X...so far it is written in the LR4YT
;D ;D thanx for looking into ;) :D ;D and night-night ;D :K) :

Ok sweety, let's go with Lewis and LR4YT.

Good night...

::) take you hubby with you ...to be sure that we are sure to be assured to be sure ;) ;D
that you are a sechi and perhaps your hubby a nonnie??) ;) ...+ - I think so, but because of the testresults, as I wrote it to you in one of my mails, it could be that he only shows up now likly a nonnie but is in principe a sechi :o :o :o ....in nature all can be ;) ;D...but I don't want to do the same error I did once...and thus Peter was obliged to correct me ::) :B :X ........hmmmm  :-/

p.s.

yessss here once our Madl Heidi was right, you can test people on that behalf only aproximatly, to be sure to 1000000 %...go for the bloodtest , or spittest.....
I can obviously see for all the parameters, but in case of having done any kinds of
therapies before which might swift your metabolisme... ::) it becomes a bit more difficult, the same in cases of candidose or hypothyriose.......
and as you know, I don't want to give false  inputs nor results .

I sent mine last Saturday and I recall the instructions indicating the sample must be shipped within 72 hours of collecting it.  I bet you're okay with fridging it although I didn't do that ... I spit & shipped!  ;D

I shipped mine on Monday after freezing it over the weekend.  It took me one hour to fill 5 mls.  I wasn't suppose to get any foam in the tube.  Quite impossible it seemed.  I guess that's why it took so long.  Glad that's over.

So I'm done  :P. Of course my mouth was dry out of sheer excitement. Smelled on a lemon, a bottle of tart pickles, no go ::). Then I induced yawns, which brought on the saliva ;D. 15 minutes and I was done spitting! Now I'm on my way to the local NAP to drop off the sample. It takes about 2 weeks for the results, no?

Phew(pray)...
Posted by: ooh-la-la (Guest), Saturday, March 24, 2007, 9:49pm; Reply: 33
What I would like to know is: How do you ship the saliva for testing?
Do I have to take it to a special place, or package it in some "bio-hazard" packaging or something?
Is the shipping charge expensive?

I'm pretty ignorant about all this.
I'm about to order my kit, but now all these posts have me wondering...
Posted by: Ronagon (Guest), Saturday, March 24, 2007, 10:04pm; Reply: 34
accidental,

All you have to do is pay for the test.  NAP sends everything to you, and the return baggy is pre-paid.

There is a little, clear plastic vial for you to put 3 mm of drool in, after you have not had anything to eat or drink (other than water) for 30 minutes.  Then, 5 minutes before you drool in the vial, you have to swish out your mouth with plain water.  After 5 minutes, you then drool in the cup, taking care to not put in foamy, bubbly saliva, and then you're set.

You have to take care to handle the vial so you don't touch anything but the outsides, and then you write all the requested information on the vial's label and on the slip you include with the vial.  Then you tear off the identification number strip and keep it so you can track down your test results later.

Then you put it in the enclosed plastic bag and drive over to the offices of whatever courier has been pre-paid for by NAP.  It takes upwards of a week, week and a half to get your results, and I recommend choosing the option of getting your results online, rather than by phone.

Finally, I would probably do the test right at the courier office, just because that keeps it fresher.  Take some water along with you for the swishing, too.

I did the test in July, and the results were available in two days.  I guess it was a slow time of year or something.

That's all there is to it, really.  And this method of determining your secretor status is a lot better than the previous method, which required a spinal tap with a wide-gauge needle bore and a three-hour, colorectal scraping with a device that looks like a tiny garden rake on the end of a steel chain.

Just kidding.

OMG!  I know!!!!  No foam??? How the heck to you prevent getting ANY foam in the vial?   :P  It took me about an hour to fill 5 mls as well.  I thought it would take a few minutes....not!   They said at least 3 ml is required, but I figured more is probably better since a little foam did get in there!

yea i filled mine with 5 mls of pure saliva, and the rest of tube did have foam. now does this mean they will not get a good read on the saliva to tell sec or non? or if you were a sec will the foam mess the test up and say you were a nonnie? now im worried about my test :(

The foam will not mess up the test.  They just want to make sure they have enough saliva, so they want to make sure you don't fill it up with foam.  If you got 5 mil of saliva in the tube you have nothing to worry about.

More questions I thought about...
Is the package of saliva we're sending very time sensitive?
How many hours between spitting and the arrival to the lab
is acceptable?

And can we take it to be mailed from a location, such as
Kinko's for example, to be mailed off? Or does it have
to be directly to the local main headquarters of the
courier?
What company is usually used to the shipping?
UPS? Fedex? etc....

All that info is contained in the pkg of test material, when you get it. I dropped mine off at some local all-purpose shipping store, the kind that deals with several major shipping companies. I think the company in my materials was DHL.

Oh, fooie, I just realized I have to fix the clock setting here. Off to fiddle with the computer...

I'm a secretor !!!  I was hoping I was ... really didn't want to make 25+ changes!  I am SO happy - my husband thought I was nuts when I opened the envelope today!  I sort of thought I was perhaps a secretor given the reaction I had to banana a week or so ago, but at least I now have confirmation and can move on .... Hey, veggiegirl or accidental chef, I sent my secretor test in on March 27th, I keep checking online but it says that I am not in the data base yet. Did you get this response at first too? I am trying not to be impatient but...   :-/

Sometimes when I enter my name and birth date and the code number, then hit submit, it transfers me to Genova Diagnostics or something like that. I don't know if that is where I find out my status or not. Any adivce?

Welcome Dressage Buff, I too am a horse lover, just for pleasure now, but someday, I hope to get into Endurance riding. Four years ago I thought my riding days were  over because I had such bad hip pain when I rode, and I was only 42!  :'( Since the BTD, no hip pain, and I can move big heavy wheelbarrows of manure with ease!  :D The BTD is the way to go for an active equestrian!

Hi Dawgmama,
I got mine thru snail mail and it did take a while. (seemed like forever!)  I've heard the online results are quicker, but depending on how many they received at one time perhaps that could be the hold up.  The insert that came with my test said to allow 10-14 days for results.

I have been following the BTD for several months and now I would like to know my secretor type. How do I go about having this test done? Is there a place on this site to sign up for this test? ??)

You can purchase the test yourself from NAP.  It does not require a Dr.'s perscription.  Here's what happens.  You purchase the test kit, and it's mailed to you.  You fill out all the information on the form, and collect spit in the vial.  You mail the package back to the Labratory.  In a week or more, you can find out your results online.  It's that simple.

Here is where you can order the test kit.

I am going to merge this thread with the other recent thread on the secretor test.

In my post above to you, the blue text where it says

"Here is where you can order the test kit."

is the link to purchase the secretor test.  I just wrote about what takes place when you order it.

Elissa, when you posted your initial question on the ER4YT forum about the secretor test, I merged that post with an already existing thread about the secretor test on "this" forum, Live Right 4 Your Type.

Live Right 4 Your Type is the book where secretor status and it's importance is discussed.

Moderators are responsible for moving threads/posts to the proper forum.

Hope that helps answer your question.

I got my results (secretor) I thought for sure I was a nonnie due to all the auto-immune issues I had in my 20's. I am much better now thanks to BTD. I wonder if the issues were due to child bearing?
