BTD Forums  /  Supp Right For Your Type  /  drynaria-bone health

I just bought the BTD book for menopause. In the section for type A is the recommendation of Drynaria for bone health at 50mg-250mg two times a day.
My mother, who is post-menopausal and type A, is very interested in trying this supplement since she has stopped taking prescrition medication for osteoporosis. She has had some problems associated with the medications and refuses to take them at all.
I first went to my local health food store and found they have never heard of this herb. Then I went searching online and found it in many chinese herb combination formulas. Finally, I found it sold in bulk. I have never bought bulk herbs and suppose I would need a digital scale to determine dosage amount.
I got to wondering if anyone within this community might be using Drynaria and what their source and experience with this herb might be. I would appreciate any information. Thank you. :)

Is your mother following the type A diet for her specific secretor status?  That's critical to getting the most out of any recommended supplements.

She does keep pretty compliant. Only on special occasions does she eat anything she shouldn't and that is pretty rare. She is a secretor.

I have never taken drynaria.

I believe one should be cognizant when utilizing individual, loose Chinese herbs (not Chinese herbs that are already in specifically combined formulas nor in capsule form); they are very medicinal and potent herbs; a little portion can achieve the desired effects/results desired.

Thank you. I will keep this in mind if we decide to go bulk.

I take Drynaria, but only as an ingredient in herbal formulas.  I always keep a bottle of Frame Builder around and take it for a few weeks, and then take a break for a few weeks.  I get this formula from Dragon Herbs, in California.

You might also try calling NAP and see if they can give you any source recommendations for Drynaria.

Thanks, Victoria. I think that might be the source I was looking for.

Thanks, MoDon. Now, why didn't I think of that?

Thanks, mikeo. She's already taking Phytocal A and additional calcium would be a great thing, I bet.

Thanks so much, y'all!
