Please share what you know about sprouting. What kind of container do you use? What seed are your best and least favorite? Any sp tricks or pitfalls?

Drea thanks for the link to SproutPeople. It's amazing all that they offer. I'm anxious to start.
Could you give the proper address again. I forgot to write it down and don't remember what thread it was on.

Download the catalog from ...  They have sprouting seeds...  I get my alfalfa seeds from them.  I soak 1 T. seed overnight, then spread them out in a flat-bottom bowl (an old Cool Whip bowl; LOL) and spray them daily to keep them moist.  I usually start thinning them as soon as they are about 1 inch tall.

ABJoe thank you. You make it sound so doable.   I'll try your method.   I tend to expect everything to be complicated. I'll check out Walton's.

I see you're  in Ca too. The link Lola & Drea found is to a Sprout  seed  Co in SF. Amazing number of dif kinds of seeds. There are 166 seeds and sprouting related things  in their cat. Some very interesting combinations. Lots of Bennies. I understand Sprouts are nutritionally superior to the veg they become.

I've bought from the SproutPeople several times. Their site is very extensive and they offer a good selection of sprouting containers.

I used to sprout a lot - But after living in several cities where the water never produced sprouts, I've pretty much not done it much for several years.

Use a Water Filtre.

For most I just tied/rubberbanded cheesecloth over recycled large jars.
At first, I used to prick wholes in the lids - but they rust.

For small seeds just spread on moistened unbleached Kitchen towels or Lines, and then place another moistend sheet over top.

Another key is to keep them out of windows in the Fall, Winter, and High Summer.

I sprout legumes and grains.

Sprouting is very easy; I simply soak the beans for several hours, then rinse and cover.  I usually utilize a glass container; I have never purchased any type of sprouting jar.

The whole process of sprouting naturally takes care of itself, one just has to wait at least two days to eat the sprouts--depending on the item being sprouted.

The nutrient value of all sprouted food items are greatly magnified through the sprouting process.

I've used mason jars, sprouting tubs, stacking trays, and hemp bags to sprout. I like the mason jars for most things, but my fave for lentils is this one.
