Since my 30s I have been taking copper supplements fairly regularly.  I heard it was lacking in those who crave chocolate & after a while taking it (a year?) I quit the craving & it lasted 18 years!!!!! In my 50s the craving returned..... LOL!!
 Anyway, I also heard that copper is good for delaying gray hair (as well as selenium & magnesium). I do gray at a slower rate than my relatives, so that may have helped.
Now I hear that too much copper may be a contributor to alzheimers.  I'm not overly worried because when I was younger the affordable supplements only contained iron & no other minerals. (Wow! Have we come a long way, baby!)
Now I take supplements that have more minerals & take extra selenium, zinc, boron, 'maggie', calcium, etc.  I feel I have taken extra copper for long enough & will take less & see what happens. [ A few years ago, I started taking boron to add to cal/mag & slept better.  Then the chiro said not to take it or don't take too much.  When I cut it back, the insomnia returned.  So I went back to it.  Now 2 1/2+ years later, I feel I have enough boron buildup to skip it more often.] So, maybe it is time to reduce the copper.  
What is "you alls" opinion? Maybe metallic copper as found in pipes is more harmful than Carlson or Twinlab copper.  That's what I am counting on.  I don't think we have had copper pipes most of my life & I drink more bottled/filtered water altho I cook with tap water & use it for tea/black chocolate.
Thanx for any input.  I love this board.  The problem is that it takes lot of time, LOL, but at least I am always learning & enjoying the freindships here!!!!!

Copper Toxicity
Excess copper interferes with zinc, a mineral needed to make digestive enzymes.  Too much copper also impairs thyroid activity and the functioning of the liver.
people with high copper dislike protein.  They crave high-carbohydrate diets.
supplement with some coleus forskohlii
Pro- Mitokon has coleus, advice in the fatigue protocol......

does this refer to you?
do you crave carbs and do not eat as much protein as you should?

I eat tons of protein, mostly in meat.  It's a good thing my husband doesn't eat a lot of meat. We wouldn't be able to afford it all LOL!
Sometimes I crave carbs, but not all the time.  Eating more carbs often increases the craving.
I also take supplemental zinc & iodine (kelp) so that might offset the copper.
I'll check the link you put there & see what else I need to know.

I read the article (most of it) & feel I am not toxic yet, but still plan to decrease my supplemental copper intake.  I am having more chocolate lately, so I will be getting it that way, too.

I wanted to bump this thread up, as I have been reading alot about copper toxicity lately.  My family has had
acne problems, especially my older sons.  On a site about copper overload, I read about something called "Kayser-
Fleischer rings" and I believe that I have them.  They are these sort of greyish-green ring around your iris.  I am
50 mind you, and I looked at my high school graduation photo, the rings were there then, but much thinner.  Now they
are quite prominant, thick.  I have lived in many older homes over the years,  I have seen those turquoise colored stains in the tub/showers from copper pipes.....I have many of the symptoms of copper overload, including thyroid and liver problems.  Don't know that it's wilsons disease, but I am reading up on this......and taking moderate amounts of zinc, not too much, but some.  Anyway, this topic is interesting, thanks for the links.

I have never heard this ( of course that's not to say it isn't true LOL) but I have heard if you're low in magnesium you might crave chocolate.  ;)
