I had made carrot juice today, I really liked it. I thing carrot has beta careton, is that means I should fix it fresh every time or I can just make it and put in refrigerator and drink some later? I guess my worries is if carrot juice would lose its goods by sitting in refrigerator?

fresh is better, also add a bit of olive oil or cream........for better absorption.

Is it true that eating or drinking carrots daily, helps a women to be more fertile?  Someone told me women from other countries, practice this theory, when they want to become pregnant.

I am not cognizant if carrots will make a woman more fertile, but they contain alot beta carotein and are considered a food item with estrogenic properties.

It should be fine if covered and preferably stored in a glass container/beverage holder/jar.

It depends a lot on the type of juicer.  Centrifugal juicers produce more heat, and so the juice only stays viable a few hours, refrigerated.
A good masticating juicer that operates at low temperature does not damage enzymes, and the juice can often be kept overnight, if in a glass jar that leaves no air space, and has a tight lid.

Victoria I just went and got my Juicer.  It's an Omega. Has a hole in the top to add fruits & veggies. There is a disk full of teeth inside that spins. Is it a Centrifugal juicer?

Told dh we are going organic. Hope he will cooperate.
I've been reading Silent Spring by Rachel Carter origanilly published in 1962 and rereleased last year.  It's sickening to realize all the horrible chemicles we have been exposed to.  One of my sons died from Lung Cancer.  He was a clean living person -There was  no reason for him to get sick.  It's heart breaking to realize what we have done to this beautiful planet.

purlgirl,  How sad to lose a child, no matter what their age.  I agree with you that it is worth whatever it takes to try our best to eat chemical-free foods.  Even at best, our world is polluted by the human inhabitants who value money over quality of life.

Your Omega is a centrifugal.  It will do a great job on all hard veggies, like carrots, celery, beets, fennel roots and stems, parsnips, gingerroot, tumeric root.  It will also juice apples and a lot of other fruits.  It will probably have less success with leafy things.  Centrifugal juicers tend to chew up leaves and spit them out!  :-)

I used to make juice some years ago, but never did Fennel, Parsnips or Tumeric.
How would you discribe their taste? (mild or does a little go a long way)
Ordered a book from the library "Joy of Juicing". Should have it in a few days.
I remember that about leafy stuff.

Sad I read the book as well- just after my dad died from cancer in bladder/liver- he was a gardener- had used lots of pesticides all his life- docs told us that was the reason for his cancer! He became very organic the last few yeasr - put too late !

Fresh is best.

I also bring it to school in a thermos flak that I`ve left in the freezer over night. Make sure it`s filled all the way to the top. That makes it keep better.

I also add a bit of beet and ginger to mine. Sometimes bell pepper, cucmber, broccoli aspargus or maybe garlic, too.

Fennel is light and a little sweet.
Parsnips are a little root tasting and sweet.
Tumeric tastes like the powdered herb used in cooking.  A little knob the size of the first digit on your pinky is plenty for a pint.

I also, as Oddos mentioned, use cucumber when they are in season.  And sweet red bell peppers are good if they are compliant.

Henriette - Dogs, cats and kids -- a full house -- wow that sounds wonderful.  (I loved it when our daughter and her girls were  living with us) I loved being MOM  more than anything on the planet.
Sorry about your dad. These pains are  there just under the surface. I hope I can learn and share with my kids so they and their kids have a better chance.  

Victoria thanks for the info about the veggies. ( anxious to use my juicer --- hope dh will try some)
I don't think the farmers market will start here  for at least another 3 mo.  There must be a way to get fresh veggies.  Did I say that  -- boy,  are we spoiled.

When I pull my own carrots (mind you they took so long to grow that I would be a size 6 if that were all I had to eat), they go limp and daggy within a day, so I tend to store them in a dish of water. Makes you wonder.......

The only carrots I purchase are organic; they are usually all very brightly colored oranged.

I have noticed that some of the carrots that are cleaned and pre-bagged are sometimes less orange.  The fresh green top carrots are usually bright orange and I enjoy their fresh from the field, earthy taste.

Most of our local supermarkets spray a fine spray of water on them at frequent intervals to maintain crispness.  They also bag them in plastic to maintain the humidity level and keep in a cool place for storage.
