Hi, there.

I'm fairly new to the BTD and am excited about trying it.  It's funny that some of the things that I can't stand, like tomatoes, are on the type A avoid list.  I've been avoiding tomato and tomato sauce for years and people think it's a weird dislike.  

I have read the food lists and looked at the database but I can't find a list of Type A Salad Dressings.  What do other type A's like to use?  If there are salad dressings that I can buy at the store, I would like a list of name brands.

I am also wondering: is there a published list that includes brand name products by blood type?  I.e. cereals and etc.  How about a "dining out" guide that says what a Type A should order at specific restaurants?  I know I can "figure" this stuff out, but it would also be nice to have a list.

use olive oil, lemon juice and spices.....
to that you can add all sorts of things like garlic, or onion....
make a creamy dressing using goat or sheep cheese or even silken tofu.

the recibase has a myriad of different recipes which have been submitted by all members of this forum.

there are no lists per se, everyone interested needs to design their own .....
individuality is important, each one of us has different needs and reactions toward certain foods.
it is a learning process and we are all here to help each other find the way that s right for each individual.

I believe most commercial salad dressings that I've seen in stores contain at least one avoid ingredients--usually in the form of a gum or stabilizer.

Creating homemade salad dressings is much healthier, saves you money in the long run, and allows you to be creative each time you have a meal.

The ER resource books do not list commercial salad dressing because they each vary, one would need to compare each ingredient for its individual food rating.  This applies to breads, and many other pre-packaged convenience foods.

My favorite salad dressing is made from 3 parts walnut oil, 1 part lemon or lime juice, freshly grated ginger root, fresh pressed garlic, a teaspoon or so of mustard powder, and wf tamari to taste. I make it in big batches and keep it in the fridge, so it's always ready when I am.

Welcome Rachel,
A useful way to really get into the food plan is to rigorously purchase only best level food - ie mostly beneficial with a  bit of neutral tossed in for variety.
Then at meal preparation time you are forced (by yourself) to deal with what is available, and your creativity will start to shine.
I'll give you an example: a few days ago I decided to open a can of sardines. I mashed it with a little fresh lemon juice, but felt the need for something more gourmet, so added some chopped walnuts (because they were there). I had previously boiled up 3 parsnips without a plan in mind, but decided to turn them into burgers by pressing them through a sieve, adding a beaten egg and salt, and frying them in olive oil.
A most unusual meal, but very memorable. The plain steamed broccoli was a simple side dish.

A's are suppose to eat a lot of salads and one of best parts of the salad in my opinion is the dressing but most store bought dressings contain either mayo or vinegar which are avoids for us.
I like using olive oil, soy sauce, a little bit of pineapple juice, lemon juice, and then add your favorite spices or some suggestions are onion, garlic, Italian spice, celentro, or nutritional yeast.

think I ll do just that with the sweet potatoes I put in the crock pot a few mins ago.

They will be so soft in the morning, so pureeing them will be a breeze!

Thanks for the ideas!  I guess I will have to see what I can create...I am very used to being able to go to the store and buy salad dressing and etc. but this sounds like an interesting creative challenge.

Sometimes you just have to play around with flavors until you find what works for you and surprisely enough it doesn't take that long to mix up.

I make and oil and no vinegar dressing that I like.

1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 lemon juice
1-2 cloves crushed garlic
1/2 tsp basil
1/2 tsp oregano
1 tsp salt

It is very good . . . enjoy.

Other great items to add to 'A' salad dressings that I've used in the past at one time or another, albeit not all at once:

Tamari, Braggs Amino Acids, dry mustard, umeboshi plums/paste, mirin, nutritional yeast, seaweed, frozen pineapple juice concentrate, frozen unsweetened apple juice concentrate dry mustard, various dry and fresh spices and herbs, fresh cut-up or pureed fruit, nut butters, nuts and/or seeds, silken tofu.

Oils: olive oil, flaxseed seed oil, borage oil, sesame oil, a commercial healthy EFA blend oil.

There are endless possibilities so one will never tire of eating the same 'ole' salad dressing day after day.  Let one's imagination and taste buds guide them...

I usually use sea salt, olive oil or walnut oil, and some pomegrante concentrate. Its really quite nice.

I had a favorite homemade dressing that contained lots of avoids - but I kept the essential ingredients - an oil, a citrus fruit (was orange marmalade) and curry powder and make a dressing I now really like. I just add olive oil (or whatever good oil is handy), lemon (or lime) juice and curry.  I can whisk this up very quickly for a tasty dressing.  I don't measure anything - I just add until it looks good.  :)

This morning I made a breakfast salad containing sardines, green onions, spinach and sesame seeds (ran out of walnuts) and I put grape seed oil (is this good for As?), lime juice and wheat-free tamari sauce on it.   It was great!  Note on the sardines - my kids love them!  I didn't think I'd like them but they taste similar to tuna to me. I must have thought they tasted more like anchovies all these years.

Is that 1/4 cup of lemon juice or 1/4 tsp?

Hello!!!

Here is my ?4Type A friendly dressing, and I absolutely love it!!!

I get a drink called Dragonfly that comes in glass bottle, so I get to keep the bottle, it's got the perfect size and you can reuse it as many times as you want!
But well, any other smallish glass bottle will do. I also use the even part of the bottle for measurement.

Here's my recipe:

- 3/4 of olive oil
- 1/4 of lemon juice
- 1 full teaspoon of mustard
- estragon
- 2 cloves of garlic
- salt

I love it!!!

Americans note: "estragon" = Tarragon.

It sounds like she's filling the "dragonfly bottle" 3/4 with olive oil and 1/4 with lemon juice. Those proportions would be just fine (use tablespoons for one serving of salad or cups for a whole bottle) but with specific amounts of garlic mentioned, we need a little more details.

Cecile- how much does the "dragonfly" hold? It should say on the label (in either ounces or liters) when you  buy it full of the beverage.

Sorru guys for the late reply!!

Ruthie's right, the measures are according the bottle :-)  I guess it's about 250 ml.

As for the garlic, I love it so much, I can't have enough, so just put as much as you want.
