I would like to use this forum to express my delirious happiness at having found this incredible diet.

I've suffered from pretty bad eczema all my life, and those of you who've had it know how much hell it can be. It really saps the morale to have ugly scabs all over arms and legs and worst of all, face. For so long I felt disgusting and ugly, and although my family have long been involved in the alternative health community, no-one seemed to have any answers. I found a few creams that helped speed healing, but nothing would calm the itching down. A couple of years ago I worked out that I couldn't tolerate milk, and my skin got a lot better, but the constant itching was still there, and it would flare up massively whenever I was under any kind of stress.

I've also suffered massive indigestions for about the past 4-5 years, to the point where I could not sleep because of the pain and nausea, and frequently pondered whether it would be worth trying to throw up to ease my swollen stomach.

So much for young people being automatically healthy!

In addition to all this, every September I would catch a cold that would quickly turn into bronchitis and last until the next April. I was used to carrying tissues and cold cream with me wherever I went, and felt incredibly tired and sluggish all the time. Again, normal for a teenager, but not to that extent!

I started taking Chlorella when I was about 14, and it helped the bronchitis a lot and the digestion a little, but the eczema refused to budge showed no difference.

I discovered the O-diet book in my mother's library this summer, and started reading the lists, and it seemed to make sense: a lot of the avoids were foods that I avoided already: milk, white flour, potatoes, cauliflower...

And then came the miracle: within two days of cutting out most Avoids in my diet, the eczema disappeared. Totally. I didn't know that skin could even heal that fast! Best of all, it left NO scars whatsoever, whereas in the past, even if it abated for a while, it would leave not-so-beautiful yellowish discolouration. We're talking about someone who used to have to to bandage their arms at night to avoid waking up with the sheets smeared with blood and lymph!

The indigestion stopped dead, as well. I went to the restaurant a couple of weeks ago and splurged on a fair amount of avoids, and felt absolutely awful afterwards! I'd almost forgotten what it felt like!

I've never been seriously overweight, mostly because I love walking and walk everywhere, and go cycling quite a lot, but since I started the O diet, I've lost about 4 kilos, which has brought me back to my ideal weight of 55 (121 pounds). I'm happy about the weight loss, but the striking change is the disappearance of the family hips, which I was always rather embarassed about.

For the first time in my life, I feel lithe, awake and energetic, as if walking was suddenly easier. More importantly, and for the first time also, I've thought myself beautiful. Wow... I'm currently battling rather bad depression, but the diet gives me something to stick to and motivates me to eat healthily most of the time, which helps enormously.

I'm sorry to have been so long-winded, I just wanted to express what a miracle this has been! The BTD makes so much sense... I couldn't imagine following any other diet now!

Have you tried a little rhodiola for the depression?  I believe it's a mood elevator.

Thank you very much for sharing :K). Is is always uplifting to read good news, so rare this days but fortunately not in this forum ;D

Lola's advice on excercise is great, also, I have noticed that if I keep on back and forth  (eating avoids-not eating avoids) I suffer from depression. If I stay compliant I feel great, if I then get into avoids, especially coffee, wheat, and lots of sugar, although I feel great initialy in a mater of days I feel depressed.

You notice such big diferences that I imagine you will remain fairly compliant. Lucky you! Things will only get better.

I do indeed try to exercise regularly, fortunately I have an extremely fit and supportive boyfriend who drags me out to go running and do parkour, which is incredible. Thing is, I worry about studies and stuff, and it saps my time and morale.

Very true about the avoids affecting mood - me and my mother (type O as well - doing great on the diet!) have a long and painful history of sugar addiction, and it's incredibly hard to beat. Especially as there aren't many commercially available O-friendly snacks! Or none, in fact. Or maybe I haven't found them. I find that Beneficial meats seem to act as mood lifters (I've always adored meat, much to the disgust of my A-type father..), but it's VERY hard to find affordable, good quality meat on a reduced student budget. I'm also a bit clueless as to what to do about breakfast, but...I'll work it out eventually. Plus these forums are an inspiration when it comes to recipes.

Rhodiola sounds interesting... Right now I'm ready to try anything that might get me out of this mess, except the 'happy pills' my doctor tries to push on me. The last thing I need is more chemicals. Does anyone know how it stands for type Os?

For the sugar cravings try more red meat or other protein sources, L-tyrosine, and/or glutamine. Supplementing with some Milk Thistle and/or some licorice tea at 10 am and 2 pm might help your liver adjust to the new diet too.

Rhodiola and/or L-Tyrosine are best but, in my expereince, if I contunue with sugar, wheat, and coffee these supplements only make things worse.

Try Catechol. It is a formula from North American Pharmacal inc (NAP) it has rhodiola and l-tyrosine. NAP belongs to Dr. D'Adamo and there is supplier in Scotland so you may save on mail. Go to the 4th button from left at the top of the page for more info

But, make sure you stop, or significantly reduce your sugar/wheat....

Sugar cravings are hard to beat, and it seems, especially for us O's but once you stay compliant for a time they basically disapear. The hard part is getting over the initial hurdles.

Getting a substantial breakfast of meat and vegetables for breakfast is very important for O's.  Evening time is the time to eat carbs if you are going to have them.  

Canned salmon is a good survival food to keep around and can knock out a depressive mood.

I agree with the Rhodiola recommendation.  It's great for type O's.  And coleus and L-Tyrosine.

Allow yourself plenty of beneficial fruits so that you are not doing without the sweet flavor in your life.

I have an O friend who buys frozen blueberries, cherries, raspberries, etc, puts them in a bowl and pours on some sparkling mineral water, slushes it all up and eats with a spoon.  Better than sorbet!

I want to say how wonderful it is to hear from someone who really puts the BTD into practice.  This is a fantastic example of the power of appropriate eating.  When the body gets a chance to heal, it knows how to do it!  You are giving your body a real chance to be radiantly healthy now, and it's great!!

Esmerelda - CONGRATULATIONS! I've seen a lot of eczema and know that it can be really hard on the self esteem. It's so wonderful that you figured out what was causing it - AVOIDS! :)

Esmerelda-welcome to the BTD way of life and to the forum.  What a wonderful testimonial from you.  So glad that it only took a matter of days to clear up things for you that have been around for most of your life. :D

I am with the others with Rhodiola, L-Tyrosine, more meat for breakfast with veggies, salmon, milk thistle/licorice tea and exercise.  All so important.  I would also recommend you get your secretor status tested.  It will benefit you greatly knowing if you are a secretor or non-secretor. :D

:D Wow, Esmerelda, I'm so happy that you found the BTD and are experiencing such profound and health-restoring results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Welcome and, by the way, it just keeps getting better!  This is only the beginning for you!

edited to add:  Oh, and CoQ10 is good for depression/mood/energy level, I have found to my surprise when I started taking it for gum health!  Also, omega 3, as has been mentioned (which wild salmon, fish oil capsules, and flax seed oil are high in) is a great depression-buster, and you may wish to try a sublingual vitamin B-12, too.  And O's should never forget the importance of exercise to counteract depression, too.

Omega 3 has been a great help in the past, I regularly take Odontella (golden algae, one of the only vegetable forms of DHA and EPA Omega-3s). Thanks for the other recommendations, I'm going supplement shopping this evening to see if I can get my hands on some Rhodiola!

Canned salmon, eh? That's a really good idea... As of tomorrow I'm going to start having animal protein for breakfast, I'm pretty sure that's going to make a BIG difference.

Howard - Parkour is a mostly urban sport based around the idea of fluid movement and interacting with the environment. For better info, try http://www.glasgowparkour.co.uk/ , they're a lot better at explaining than I am!

I remember being overjoyed when I found out I was O after reading ER4YT, because it meant I could still practice my favourite sport. Which is definitely pretty strenuous! Thing is, it's a circular thing... Had I been another type I'd probably have been naturally more inclined to milder forms of exercise.

Thing with parkour is... It can be anything you want it to be. And as demanding or calming. It starts with a mindset rather than a degree of strength or fitness. But this jabbering would probably be more at home in the Fitness section, so I'll stop!

Okay, wait a minute, is parkour that thing where you creatively use ordinary objects in your path for exercise by, say, swinging from lamp post to lamp post, or skipping along a telephone line?

Hey, Esmerelda, congratulations on your happy discovery of the BTD! I think your youth contributed to the swift recovery of your health. Isn't this a wonderful website, with wonderful people? I love hearing another happy story.
Hey, guys, we have happy beginnings, not just happy endings to OUR stories!!!  ;)
p.s., I understood your digestive miseries more than I wish I did, with wonderful results from being compliant!  And even better results when I found out I was a nonnie and ditched the nonnie no-no's. I highly recommend getting a Secretor test if you can.

Esmerelda...Parkour...what a wonderful sport for an O.  When I first heard about it last year I thought what an amazing way to keep the body in shape.  Especially for O's.  Keep up the diet and the Parkour and you will go far. ;) :D
