Dr. Dark Anti-Oxidant Mix

What do you guys think about this:

semi-sweet chocolate [sugar, chocolate, liquor processed w/alkali, cocao butter, butter oil, soy lecitin, vanilla], almonds, cranberries, sugar, monounsaturated sunflower oil, sea salt, confectioner's glaze. contains milk, soy and nuts.


I am type O with bad bad bad knees so I guess chocolate is to be treated as an avoid right? Anyway, what about for my mom's and stuff, what do you make of it guys?

Tak (Icelandic for thanks!), I heard Iceland is soo super nice. Volcanoes flowing, steam and hotsprings everywhere and just the friendliest place.

those don t sound alright to me.

mentions nuts, but which nuts?

best is to make your own chocolate with no avoids.......

There are some chocolates out there that are OK for O's..  Try Endangered Species brand which can be found at Whole Foods for example.

The good news is, Jane is right, there are several really good brands of compliant chocolate out there for O secretors, such as Endangered Species and Dagoba.  Reading the ingredients list and comparing it to Typebase4 for avoids is the key to staying on the straight and narrow.  But I can tell ya right now that "confectioner's glaze" is CORN sugar, so I'd stay far away from that brand just based on that alone.  The milk is also an avoid, and there are some smaller issues, so I'd go for one of the purer, compliant brands mentioned.  Enjoy!

The lavender version is just sooooooo gooood  ;D ;D ;D ;D
I canīt get all the varieties here and they are VERY expensive
- but I must say that I find: Dagoba probably the best chocolate in the world......( no it is not the best lager in the world ( Carlsberg :P)

Dagoba is "da bomb", for sure!  But don't they use cane juice?  I thought that was an avoid for everybody.  (too lazy to check, this morning)

That Endangered Species Panther Bar has one of the highest (if not the highest) amount of chocolate I've seen (something like 83, or 87% ? ).  Great source of antioxidants!  Plus their sugar content is very low, for those of you who can eat sugar.  

I tend to work from the unsweetened cocoa powders, myself, non-sugar eater that I am.  :-)

Why would cane juice be bad?  Isn't that what plain old fashioned sugar is made from (before they discovered corn syrup etc.)?

I absolutely love the Endangered Species Black Panther Bar!  The Panther Bar has an exquisite taste, and amazing smoothness for such rich, deep chocolate, and satisfies me to the depth of my soul--and all for just a couple of bucks!

I used to be a Huge Candy Bar eater before I nearly entered my final illness a month ago, and before I started BTD shortly thereafter.  While I would theoretically do better with no Candy Bar, in reality, I can absolutely stick with the BTD because the Black Panther Bar waits for me at the end of each week.   ;)

According to a friendly clerk at our big natural food store, Dagoba has just been bought by Hersheys.  He swears it's the truth!

Great choc bars Jane!!  AND they have white, milk and dark chocolates w/ a variety of nuts, etc.  ;D

Hershey also bought Scharffen Berger earlier this year...prior to that, also very good chocolate (imho).

Is Hersheys a company to be trusted?  I don't think so!  So all Dagoba and Scharffen Berger eaters, just keep reading those labels very closely.  Ingredients have a way of changing when owners change hands.

I'm still rootin' for Endangered species Panther Bar.

I, too, love the endangered species brand. Some of their bars have "water-filtered beet sugar" - does anyone know anything about that? Is it better or worse in terms of sugar for a non-secretor? My very favorite is the dark mint chocolate with the gorillas on front. :)

And beet sugar vs. cane sugar? What of that? In my mind, I've convinced myself it's better, since I like that brand so much!

Remember, I have shared how I eat the unsweetened Ghirardelli with a banana since I can't have any sugar.  To me it tastes good & helps the craving.
Also, if you can tolerate black coffee, try black chocolate--powered unsweetened in hot water.

I love hot black chocolate, Mrs T, just a few times a week.  I've found that if I drink it daily, it becomes a habit and there's no pleasure in it anymore.  But it's amazingly satisfying for that chocolate need without the sugar and fat.

That's so funny, I never liked beets so they were in my emotional avoid category - but they are neutral. Does this mean that when I eat this dark chocolate with water filtered beet sugar I am actually not eating any avoids? Is that possible?!

I was talking about all the surgery, all the stuff w/ child molestation (whether it be true or not) and him just plain getting weider all the time. Still do love his music tho. :-)
