As a A-non secreator, male, I would like some advice on diet related to muscle aches and joint pops and pain.

It seems I am eating something that is causing my pain, on the right side upper middle to neck and shoulder, although I do follow the diet recomendations for NS types pretty closely. I wonder if classic things to avoid in situations like this, such as teh nightshades ( I love peppers, hot pepper sauce and tomatoe sauce) which in natural medicin are considered to aggravate such a condition) and coffee are bothering me?. Also, would anyone know whether there are supplements to avoid when this condition flares up?

get a hold of the arthritis book from the health series....
you will find more targeted food lists for your condition, yes.

If you go to the top of the page and click on member centre (on the top right hand side of this page) and get yourself a nice avatar (located on the left) then we can all see what blood type you are and you won't have to type it each time you post.

Tomato makes my left heel hurt, reliably.  Eggplant is also in the nightshade family.

hmm, potatoes do it to my back but I thought tomatoes were alright for us. Does it make difference if the tomateos are cooked or not? I never eat raw tomatoes.

I believe tomatoes are downgraded to infrequent neutral in the arthritis book, which makes them an avoid........

the lists are eye opening to all......try and get one at your local library

Welcome wit!

Browse around the site and become familiar with all the features here.  If you look at the top right of the page, you will see a link called "member center."  If you click on that link, it will take you to a page where you can pick an appropriate avatar, to represent your Blood Type Shield.  This comes in handy when others are trying to help you answer questions.  Also on that link you can create a special message under your shield, and a personal signature that will appear in all your posts.

I'm looking in the arthritis book now, and here is the list of the top Pro-inflammatory foods for Type A's....these are the one's you want to avoid the most.

Red meat
Cow's milk-based dairy foods
Corn, cottonseed, peanut oil
Kidney, navy beans
Wheat
White potatoes
Bell peppers
Eggplant
Tomato and tomato products
Oranges
Food additives
Processed sugar.

The health series books break the food down into five categories, further refining the diet.  They are: Super Beneficial, Beneficial, Neutral (allowed frequently) Infrequent Neutral, and Avoid.

The key is to eliminate all avoids, get those super beneficials in you at every meal, and to treat infrequent neutrals like avoids.  Let go of those borderline~problem foods.

When I went on the arthritis program for my type, I ate only beneficials for the first two weeks.  I noticed a difference within four days.

very helpful list. thanks so much. I am surprised by some of the things on the list. I have been eating a lot of fresh peppers and probably too much red meat, given BBQ season is just recently passed. I will have to get that book!

I was a member of the original board when it first started and still try to stop in here as much as possible. The people out in forum land are a never failing source of helpful advice and experience.

Here are the TOP anti-inflammatory foods for Type A's

Soy foods
Richly oiled cold water fish
Flax (linseed) oil
Olive oil
Onion
Broccoli
Spinach, kale, collards
Avocado
Pineapple
Blueberries, cherries, elderberries
Ginger
Turmeric
Green Tea

Get one of these items in you at every meal....or ideally two or more.

hey, at least I am doing something right--except for the avocados, which have no reason to exist in my book!. So I am eating the right things, but got a few nasty super avoids to get rid of.

::) sometimes your tissues might be too acid..so far augment drastically all your minerals intake and add some boron, too :D  hope it helps...Debra, my rrrrooostersis mentioned to take a bath with epsom salts, too, seems to be very yummi to your skin, too :D

look for capsaicin creams containing .0025-.0075 percent capsaicin(avoid contact with eyes) and rub on sore areas before bed.


water...dehydration can cause flareups

eat foods with high sulfer content...garlic and onions liberally everyday as well as asparagus in season

flaxseed oil, tablespoon a day and benefiical fish

take chondroiten 400ng three times daily or try Phloxican from the NAP store...button is uptop

non weight bearing exercise like water aerobics, swimming, stationary cycling and yoga will help

lastly...if need be...lose weight.....even an extra 10lbs can cause an additional 40lb of pressure on arthritic knee and ankle joints

Hi!

I'm a newbie, and so glad to have found this forum!  I was diagnosed with RA, three weeks ago and have been embracing the BTD since very shortly thereafter.

Would anybody who has the Arthitis Book be willing to post some Absolutely Avoids for an O-Nonnie?  Also, a list of the Top Anti-Inflamatories?

Also--I'm not much of a gardener, and not quite sure what a "night-shade" is, but I understand from a previous post that I should avoid these?

My next question: I know eggplant and potato are avoids for O-Non, but I believe peppers and tomato are neutral.  Does my RA diagnosis indicate that I should avoid these neutrals, as well?

yes, all forms of night shades should be avoided......hope you get your arthritis book soon, so you can make your shopping list.

surely someone who has the book handy will be able to post those foods.....

if you have arthritis, joint or muscle pain, I'd avoid nightshades at all cost. my DH has arthritis like symptoms and still eats the nightshades (he actually thought I made that up) and then complains how he aches. another thing i'd watch, especially being a non-secretor (nonnie for short) is your intake of sugar, any kind. I think I'm finding even agave bothers me. It's supposed to be one of the better sweeteners in relation to blood sugar issues (which i have). think i'm going to have to switch to xylitol period.
According to Arthritis book:

Inflammatory foods:
wheat and dairy(cheese, sour cream, yogurt, milk, buttermilk, etc)(all prev allowed cheeses - feta, mozarella, goat, farmer - go to neutral infrequents - 1 to 2 times a month)  are your most harmful foods.  they provoke inflammation - I can personally attest to the wheat part of that. dairy is terrible for O's where sinus is concerned as well.
here are more:
corn and corn-by-products - avoid HFCS like the plague (high fructose corn syrup)
potatoes, tomatoes and tomato products, bell peppers, eggplant - all nightshades
corn, cottonseed, peanut and safflower oils
lentil beans
kiwi, oranges, tangerines
food additives
processed sugars
coffee (reg and decaf)      acid is the problem here.



anti-inflammatory foods:
lean, organic, grass fed red meat (or whatever red meat you can get or afford)
richly oiled cold-water fish
flax (linseed) oil
olive oil
seaweeds
onion
sweet potato
spinach, kale, collards
pineapple
blueberries, cherries, elderberries
ginger
cayenne pepper  (can anyone explain this one?)
turmeric
green tea

tobacco is also a nightshade and can really cause muscle pain
