If those of you who can eat turkey haven't tried the turkey burger recipe in CRFYT, do so. I didn't expect much when I cooked them for Sunday dinner, and I was quite pleasantly surprised by the taste. I had to laugh while hubby and I were eating, though. When he asked what was so funny, I said, "I'll bet you never dreamed you'd be sitting down to a dinner of turkey burgers and lentil soup!"

What a change for both of us. But so far it's been a change for the better.  ;D

rottlady, thanks for posting that info. It is a real challange making meat for an A who is used to eating beef and pork as well. He's not oh so fond of turkey and it does seem to bother him somewhat if he eats it too many days/meals in a row. Will give that recipe a try.
How are things going w/ you and yours these days?

Funny, cause I thought I was going to have to post this same thing. Couldn't find mine, but finally sniffed it out.  ;)
Here ya go: (mine are cooking as I type)

1 lb. ground turkey
2 slices Ezekiel or Spelt bread
1 T. olive oil
1 med. onion, finely chopped
2 eggs
handful of chopped fresh parsley
pinch of salt
olive oil for frying

Place turkey in bowl and shred bread over the meat. In skillet, heat oil over med heat. Add onion, saute until soft and golden; add to bowl.  Beat eggs in small bowl until light and pour into mixture. Add parsley and salt. Mix gently w/ hands being sure not to condense the mixture; keep it fluffy. Shape into patties and cook in olive oil over med heat until brown, about 5 min. Turn and cook another 5 min. Cover pan, reduce heat, and let them steam just a little, until juices run clear. This also keeps the burgers moist.

My note: I have had to cook mine alot longer than the time 'allotted' here, but could be because I mixed chicken and turkey. Added a fair amount of cumin as well. Have not tried them yet.

They are delicious.  Great with cilantro in place of parsley.

Think of them like tender juicy meat loaf cooked into patties.  A little compliant mustard is nice but no condiment is necessary.  You can add a touch spices, if desired (cumin, chili powder, mustard powder, etc).

Thanks Vicky.  I have had them before many times, I make without the bread, I just can eat it like a do a hamburger, (dill pickles, mustard, and ketchup) I have eating with light miracle whip and lettuce and tomato, but I think something else besides the miracle whip would be healthier right?  What do you think of chilli sauce, or would that be to strong?  tartar sauce?  honeymustard?
What have people tried and liked? Thanks

Have you tried Jill's turkey sausage recipe? It's also very good and is grain-free.

Turkey burgers are so good. They will diffiently soothe that burger craving. We have been eating out alot due to traveling and Ruby Tuesday's has a delicious turkey burger and Cracker Barrell has delicious turkey sausage. I love when restraurants have healthy items available.

geminisue, you may want to consider going without the condiments and put them inside by adding more spice to it.  The ketchup has corn syrup?  The miracle whip has bad fats, etc.  Just not worth it to me.  You can make homemade mayonnaise.  Cook Right has a recipe for a modified ketchup, I believe, but it isn't like the store bought stuff.  A compliant chutney may give it a nice touch.  Adding jalapeno pepper or red bell pepper would spice it up and give some crunch.  You can add raw red/purple onion finely diced without cooking in addition to the sauteed onion....

Well turkey is either a neutral or benefical for all blood types. So enjoy those turkey lunches on Thanksgiving. My mouth is watering.

I picked up some ground turkey thigh to make turkey burgers for Thanksgiving, to go with our Lamb Chops!  :-)

I made a Cranberry Pineapple Sauce for use in turkey burgers or sandwiches.

12 oz. bag fresh cranberries
15 oz. can crushed pineapple (in juice)
Water to cook the berries

Put the cranberries in a saucepan with water and cook until the berries pop.  Put the pineapple, juice and all, into the cranberries.  Cook down to desired thickness.

Some ginger might enhance the flavor...  There are probably many other little enhancements.

I can't remember where I got the original recipe or idea to give proper credit!

saw something similar in Rachel Ray s programme....with turkey burgers, I think.
