BTD Forums  /  Testimonials  /  so much beef.. such low cholesterol!

about ten years ago, when I was still a vegetarian, I had my  cholesterol checked.  As I recall, it was very high for someone so young , a vegetarian, and a runner.... even the doctor was surprised.  I have a history of heart issues in my family, so I just figured it was  in the genes...

well, about three  years ago I switched to the BTD... I'm O, so I now eat tons of beef and veggies...  so all this time I've been curious to know if this has affected my cholesterol.  I remember reading in Eat Right For Your Type about  a case where an athelete who was an  O and who was on vegan foods had very high cholesterol.. Once he started following  the BTD ( adding meat, cutting out the avoids) , his cholesterol went way down to normal.
let me just say, I eat a lot of meat... I do eat small portions.. but  I NEED it... so.. when I went yesterday to have it checked, I held my breath... I think  it was like 243 all those years ago when I was a vegetarian.. and yesterday when I  went it was under 150!!  I was SOoOOOo happy!  and amazed...
Just wanted to share the good news and  prove that beef shouldn't get the bad reputation  ... for type O's!

That's awsome Sheri.  I have always had high genetic cholesterol and recently went in for an annual physical.  All my stats were great except for my LDL's.  My Dr. always wants to put me on meds to lower it which I refuse to take.  Your post has given me additional hope.  Does anyone know approximately how long it takes for the BTD to start showing results.  I am only on my third week but already feel much better.  Thanks for all the interesting posts.

I've had similar experience.  I had  cholesterol blood lipid test done 6 months before I started BTD  and it wasnt good.  My total count was way over 253!  Bad ones way up and good one down.   The doctor just told me to watch my fats and move more.  I did.  I got educated about trans fats and dropped those and I did walk and exercisze more, but I felt no better.  I was a sorta vegetarian but what I really was ......a "startchitarian".  I ate beans and lots of wheat products, very little meat.

When I started the BTD 18 months ago it had a profound effect on me.  After only 6 weeks I went back for another blood test and the bad cholesterols were down and the good one up!  I was eating more meat and olive oil and cut way down on the startches.  I just had another blood test done and my total cholesterols are 199 and the good one is 55.  It is still working beautifully!  I look better and feel better than I did 10 years ago!   I am healthier now than I was 10 years ago.
