The other day I was eating some fresh pineapple, and just a few minutes later, bumps began to come up on the back of my tongue...painful!!!!  It was burning so bad!

Today, I drank some blueberry, pineapple, and pomegranate juice I bought, it was not fresh.  Have not noticed any reaction!

What is going on here?  I thought pineapple was good for us?

Some people can have a reaction to fresh pineapple. The juice you bought was probably heated in the canning process, which destroys the enzyme in the pineapple that causes the bumps and burning (at least I think that's how it works). Unfortunately, it also destroys what makes the pineapple good for you.

I'd say just take pineapple out of your diet. You could try mango or guava in its place.

My o son used to enjoy fresh pineapple, now, suddenly, he developes an itchy rash all over his body if he eats pineapple. So, he no longer eats it. My O daughter eats pineapple with no problem. Strange how he used to be able to tolerate it, but easy to avoid, so no big deal.

Is your son a child going into puberty, by any chance?

My son used to get a terrible rash around his mouth when he ate pineapple.  For the mouth rash, just soak your freshly cut pineapple in cold water for 5 minutes before you eat it.

The beginning of your sentence "My son use to enjoy" (I couldn't picture the same reaction at a different time in his life, except maybe men's menapause( I understand there is such a thing) Didn't know your age so took a guess.:)

In my early twenties I tried raw(fresh) pineapple for the first time, and liked it so much I ate maybe a whole one within two days, maybe one day, I forget. What I haven't forgotten was my lips turned bright red for a couple days.  Since then I just make sure I don't eat that much in such a short time, and no more funny reactions, knock on wood!

I get a reaction to fresh fruit as well
- but when I juice it myself( no heating envolved)- it is fine- no redness in the mouth- /lips.
I have nver cared much for pineapple untill I realised that a combo of apples, pineapple and ginger is a wonderfull pick me up for this B :-D

I also agree that juicing it seems to take the harshness out of it.
