   lSeeking diet recommendations for the following :  
A- with  high ldl and low hdl
Attempts to control  lipids with Niacin and then Lovastatin [in addition to diet and exercise] resulted in improvement in lipids but elevated triglycerides (+450).
Reducing sugars and starches and increasing lean proteins have improved lipids and triglycerides without medications but haven't made them " ideal".
Not Diabetic

Triglyceride control was thowing the doctor and I for a loop.

Browse around the site and become familiar with all the features here.  If you look at the top right of the page, you will see a link called "member center."  If you click on that link, it will take you to a page where you can pick an appropriate Blood Type Shield.  This comes in handy when others are trying to help you answer questions.  Also on that link you can create a special message under your shield, and a personal signature that will appear in all your posts.

A's have difficulty breaking down dietary fat due to lower levels of the enzyme responsible for this function, intestinal alkaline phospatase...I would derive most of your protein from Soy foods and richly oiled cold water fish...omit red meat all together

for cholesterol control...B5, garlic and soy lecithin r the tickets for A's  and of course Eating Right for your type...I would suggest you pick up the cardiovascular Desease...Fight with the Blood Type Diet

Living the BTD WOL will help immensely with a variety of type maladies.  If you've simply read ER4YT that's agreat start, but the Live Right 4 Your Type addresses things more in depth.  In specific to your question, I quote from page 229 regarding high cholesterol:

"Many people with high cholesterol and triglicerides are magnesium deficient, so you may need a supplement.  A typical dose for Type A is 250-500 mg daily.  Green leafy vegetables are good food source."

There's more in that subject, but I believe that Magnesium is a good place to start until you can read LR4YT.  :o}

have a tablespoon of flaxseed oil a day and a handfull of walnuts (buy them in the shell and crack them yourself...)

     Thanks to all....  

     The flax seed oil sound like a better idea than the flax seed that I was consuming  ( mostly passing...). The husks don't seem to digest completely.
     I have been augmenting my diet with almonds but walnuts sounds good also.   Would cashues or peanuts be an avoid?

the tip on getting the cardio book is a good one, for more targeted advice and guidelines.......

I grind my flax into is best absorbed that can add it to anything, fruit, salads, even as cereal if you wish.
