Well it all depends on what I have been eating, sometimes I dont have any bowel movements one day and 6 the next day. My all time record was 9 in one day. But generally speaking I have between 0 and 3 in any given day. Since I have just decided to take my diet to another level and actually avoid the avoids that I have been making excuceses for my bowel movements may become more regular which would be nice.

Well, as most of you know I am pregnant. But, I haven't had too many problems with the BM factor. I go about 1-2 times per day ;D ;D ;D

For most of my life I was constipated and didn't know that was not normal. Since being on the BTD, I usually have one a day, sometimes two depending on what I'm eating (although I haven't been able to pinpoint it yet). Whenever I don't have one in the morning, I'm automatically suspect that something is off.

Twice a day like clockwork* since being on the BTD.  Before that, it was usually 3 times -- possibly because I was eating no meat and more whole grains?


*Edited to add:  ... except when I think, Oh, good, that's out of the way, so I can get to bed on time for a change, and then it's three times ...

Well, since I had my gallbladder out, I have problems in that area. However, the closer I stick the diet, the more regular I am. I would say almost everyday now, but once I eat something with wheat in it, or an avoid, I can get plugged up for a 2--3 days. :B

Just curious, what is this poll for?

I just read the O poll on this and seems most are going twice a day. Where does that put us As?
I always thought As were too nervous to go regularly everyday....Happy to learn that isn't true! 8)

I haven't checked the B and AB polls yet....wondering what the results are like.....

I am very regular at 3 times per day, except for the day before menstruating and then it's a difficult once, but once I start I MORE than make up for it.

It is normally 1 to 3 times daily; less frequently, 4 times daily when my vegetable consumption is increased.

Are you guys serious?  Something must be wrong with me?  I used to go once daily.  Now I go once every other day!  If I increase grain intake, then I go back to my normal once a day.  Does this mean I need to do some intestinal work?

This is a BIG problem for me, I either go too much or too little I am hoping the BTD helps resolve that issue.  I am new to the program just a few days, but since starting...

Same here. Just once daily. If I go more (which would be no more then 2 times) it's because I ate avoids the day before.

For me it is determined by the amount of oil, fiber, and magnesium contained in what I consumed the day before.

Wow.  What a thread.  Since we're on the subject, I used to be so clogged up I'd go once or twice a week (as a child --- my sister, in her mid-20's, A NURSE, and an A+, still only goes 1 to 2 times a week.  She should know better.  She thinks the BTD is dumb.  Oh, well.  I won't be the one to die of colon cancer when I'm 35).  

Since BTD, I go once a day except the first two days of my period, then I go maybe 2 or 3 times a day (I did figure something out, if I can add this here.  All the women in my family have loose stools the day or two leading up to their periods.  I think I realized why--it's the same hormones that cause you to have loose stools just before you have a baby.)  

Wheat makes me bloated and stalls outgoing info for up to 2-3 days.

Why is it that I still occasionally have a little blood in my stools?  It's gotten better since BTD, but sometimes it returns for a day with no reason (no avoids eaten).

Dear Ribbit,

There could be several reasons why there is blood in the stool. To list a couple:

1. mensturating
2. hemorrhoids
3. problems with your colon
4. etc

I would have it checked out. There is a simple stool test you can take specifically geared for finding blood in your stool and analyizing it. This kind of test is standard when you go for a regular medical checkup.

Oh.  I don't go to medical checkups.  Maybe I should.  My guess would be a hemorrhoid---two  babies (8.5 lbs and 10.5 lbs) would be the cause of that, I suppose.

Well, having babies could certainly give you hemorrhoids.
I had blood in my stool, checked it out and found I had a mild case of hemorroids. Since I've been on the BTD, the condition (blood in stools) has cleared up.  ;D

In anycase, I would have it checked into.

I'm also like Connect14.  Once daily, sometimes twice.  Since I stopped my morning coffee, which always worked for me I've also gone every other day.

I thought A bloodtypes had a "slow boat to China" kind of system.   What I remember reading was A's were kind of sluggish in the morning.  Isn't that true?

I'm stepping up the veggies and leafy greens and see what that does.

Joy, Do you drink warm lemon water first thing in the am? I find that that alone usually does the trick (especially since exchanging my morning caf coffee with green tea). Also, except while traveling when my digestion goes completely wack, a regular schedule works best for me.

I did that when I first started the BTD and I don't remember if it helped in that respect or not.
But if it works for you that's good.  

I started taking some herbal products and that may have something to do with it.  As I said if I eat more fibrous veggies it always helps.  

I had been buying kale which I like but involves so much chewing (unless I cut it up into little pcs.) which is more edible for me.

Bulky foods help.  Like when I make winter squash, I mash it up like you would potatoes and eat not 1/2 cup, but like 1 1/2 cups.  A large helping of fried okra (coated in rice flour and fried in olive oil) and black-eyed peas with maybe a side of raw spinach.....and I've got myself a great meal that I feel wonderful for hours after eating.  I actually don't pay attention to the serving sizes because I eat based on the nourishment I need to feel energetic.  (But then, I don't need to lose weight.)  Anyway, it helped me a lot (bowel-wise) when I first started the BTD to eat a huge helping of mashed winter squash (butternut is my favorite) just about every day.

I am proud to say that after 30 years of severe constipation I am now completely regular. The reason? Undiagnosed hypothyroidism!!! As soon as my doc put me on armour my bowels have become normal!!

The warm water w/lemon does the trick for me.  

Olive oil seems to make me go more often, AND it makes it easier for me to go.  This is such a blessing b/c I used to be constipated b/c of really dry stools.  Not anymore!!!  My bowels are nomal now thanks not only to olive oil, but to BTD itself.  No more stool softeners for me!!

This poll results actually shocks me. You A's must be eating alot of fiber or eating lots of fruit and veggies. A's have low stomach acid which makes digestion more difficult so you A's must be getting lots of fiber.

I don't always get all the fiber in a day I need and this makes things difficult for me. I know A's should follow a vegatarine diet but it is sometimes hard. I do avoid red meat and dairy which are the biggest culprits for me. Would like to know what  you do or eat to get your digestive system to react so quickly.

I eat veggies like 3 times a day, fruits like 2 or 3 times a day, FRESH pineapple 3 times a week.

LOTS of buckwheat *yum*!

I never eat chicken or turkey, even if they are "okay" they are not bennies and they make me feel ill.

Oh yeah, like 10-12 glasses of water a day.

I was interested in this poll, which started on the day we left for a four week trip to Africa.
I had the most terrrible problems, with the complete change of diet!!
Also one of the main issues for  me was the lack of 'toilets' - the local ones are in a shed, small slit in the floor, my husband said they looked like a slurry pit and covered with flies etc. So, if I didn't manage to have a BM before I left the hotel, that was it for the day!! Which meant no passing water either!! I was drinking during the day but with the heat, suppose it more or less cancelled itself out .
Some twelve hours later and back to the hotel.....
I became so uncomforable, so constipated.
Then we would return back to the capital, where we had rented an apartment for the whole month and could more or less cater for ourselves, so I'd just start to get over the constipation when it was time to travel to another part of the country and stay in yet another hotel for up to four days!!!

My history has always been to 'go' every other day but since last November when I started BTD, I began to be a once a day regular.

I've been home now for about ten days and still not quite right but at least I know I will get there!!

Liquid chlorophyll may help also.  For me ridding my diet entirely of wheat helped the most, then when I started the BTD and quit red meat, my system picked up.  If I find myself eating mostly grains and protein (even if it's in the form of black-eye peas) and forget to eat fruits and veggies, things slow down a bit.  Liquid chlorophyll also helps change that acidity level --- it may be why my muscles don't hurt anymore.

Thought I would check into this thread again and see what is new. Seems the poll is still running strong.
I didn't think there would be that much to say about the subject....Guess the number of replies proved me wrong.

Well, must be stress as it seems I have a few more problems in this area again. I think I will go back to taking Barley Green. And I agree with Ribbit, cutting out the red meat and wheat certainly helps. No meat is not a big problem, but I do like wheat....

Ribbit & all y'all - The test to check your BM for blood is called a guiac test and can be done in a clinic in about 10 minutes.

Blood in the stool if it has been digested is dark (black & like tar). This can be a sign of something wrong in the digestive system higher up.

If the blood is bright red it is most likely hemorrhoids (internal or external).

I go 1-4 times a day...usually 2-3 x/day. It's been 3-4 when I eat pintos & oatmeal in the same day.

I'm a nurse too. There are plenty of mis or non-informed medical personnel. It takes being open to the lifestyle and seeking out and testing what works for you on the BTD. Most people don't get this far. If you aren't a streamlined A this could put you off. Keep with it all you A's! :)

For Ribbit, does the liquid chlorophyll aid with the digestion acid. I guess this helps to go to the bathroom more often if things are slow. Will you have a normal bowel movement or loose stool. I have never tried this before.

Can you believe we are talking about this? I was going several times a day before finding BTD. I was miserable! Sometimes I'd have to leave a store because I either was too embarassed to use their bathroom or they didn't have one. Things were really urgent!

Since beinning BTD nearly two weeks ago I have become much more regular and there less urgency. Now I go once or twice a day depending on what I eat.

I do find that drinking the warm water with lemon in the morning gets things moving very quickly.

It wasn't asked specifically of type As. There is a poll for each blood type.
Type O: How often do you move your bowels?

Sassy,  you had asked me if chlorophyll helped with acid.  Sorry I didn't get back sooner--I've been busy throwing up as you may have read on other threads.  I never felt like I had a stomach acid problem (like heartburn or burping)---I only felt the acidity in my muscles and in my reproductive tract in the form of bacterial vaginitis and/or yeast infections.  Now I very rarely have a flare-up, and when I do, I up my intake of chlorophyll for a few days and everything goes away again.  It doesn't really give me loose stools, but I would have to say it makes them loosER, depending on how many Tbsp. a day I take.  Does make the stools green, but I can handle that.

The most helpful bowel question a ND once asked me was, "When you go, do you feel like it all came out?"

Put together with some info I read on hypothyroidism about how often people with this are constipated but often don't know it...

If I'm healthy, I either can answer "yes" to the above question and go twice a day or I go more often 2-4 times a day, but feel like eventually I'm getting it all out.

Then when I'm constipated, usually after ovulation and before my period, I may go only once or twice a day, but the point is not the number of times, but the end product, so to speak! (quantity and quality!)

Way too much information, but it's so relevant. Sometimes the numbers alone don't add up.

More magnesium rich foods may be needed during ovulation and menstruation.  I think this is why many women crave chocolate at that time of the month!

I've noticed a correlation between drinking more water, and moving my bowels more than once a day. Meaning, ever since I started drinking 120 ounces of water over the 80 ounces or less that I used to drink, I'll go two or three times a day, instead of once or none.

My apologies for bumping the A Poop Poll ;D .  

I voted a while back but wanted to look again to see how the results ended up.  I am a 3-5 times a dayer (at least) and I am glad to know I am not alone.  Having to go is what gets me out of bed in the morning.  I was usually a 2 a dayer before the btd, sometimes once.  

A DCM once told me that once your system was in good health, it was good for your body to be on a 'one meal in, waste out' kind of schedule.  IE that the body had the capacity to process a certain number of meals at once and so when something new came in, something old went out.  My body seems to work like that.

Sometimes it is great to go that much, other times it is a pain in the...well, you know.  :D  

Not sure how much is too much.  I guess if it feels ok then it is ok?

I'm wondering since Dr. D started this poll in 2006, why?

What would be the ideal.....just so we all have a sense of knowing if we're ultimately achieving that goal.

I said once per day and see I'm in the minority.  My husband, also an A says 3 x  per day.  I'm
a secretor, he's a nonnie.

I have A friends who are always constipated and the same with one of my two A sisters.  My type

Not sure about others but for me a very consistent daily routine will allow for consistency in this part of my personal physiology. My daily routine and what I eat from day to day plays a big role for me personally. I said daily but it could just have easily been 4-6 times per week.

That's a good question....In that 90 minute time frame of having 3 movements, are you stopping to eat any food?  Or just going back to the bathroom?  My husband sort of does this.  Food goes
through his digestive system rather rapidly.

I think you'd be accurate in saying more than once per day....if food caused the second, third
movement.  If it didn't, then it's part of the first evacuation.

Maybe this is a far fetched deduction on my part....but this is how it appears to me.

No - don't eat until I'm done "pooping".  I drink. Actually, I brew Teeccino with just a little decaf coffee in it. Sometimes hot tea will also get things moving for me but the Teeccino coffee-taste seems to work best.  

I read someplace that if you want to know how long it takes food to completely go through your digestive tract, "eat some beets and pay attention".  Based on that: When I'm eating properly my digestive system time is around 18 hours average.  

I guess that as long as I have a regular routine it's fine.  If I can't "go" in the morning I feel bloated and miserable all day long!  

When my 85 year old father used to live with us we were disgusted at the way he talked about his bowel movements constantly.........so I shall stop!  (hand)

Chloe was talking about constipation un A's. It's an interesting topic. Maybe A's have tendency to constipation if they aren't compliant?

I'm in a cycle, when my bowel are damaged I believe and I'm compliant.

When my bowels work, I give up gradually BTD diet and when I suffer damage I start again

Once upon rising-- then after breakfast at some point.

Sometimes after lunch but not always.

1-3 is normal for me.  But lately (6th day now) I've been plagued with diarrhea which, for me, is very unusual.  I had started on Dr. D's supplements 12 days prior (having switched from Standar Process) and my bm's actually improved.

I haven't stopped taking the ARA6 2x daily along with the suggested dosage for the Teacher 3-pack.  I've even (since the diarrhea started, added Dr. D's multivitamin and mineral, each 2x per day to compensate with what I'm probably missing due to my food not being digested properly.

It all started after I had eaten some organic bagged baby romaine lettuse in a salad.  That was last Wednesday.  Thursday since I've had it.  Didn't throw out the lettuce until after I had consumed 3 salads (Wed., Thurs, & Fri.)!  Anyways, it still hasn't gone away.  I kept eating salads daily until today thinking that the raw vegetables may be irritating my condition.  Hope staying away from raw veggies for a spell will work cause I'm out of ideas.

Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?   ??)

By the way, I'm not going back to Standard Process.  My husband wants me to take one of their products our Dr. recommended for him.  So far I've avoided that.

do you remotely suspect bacterial infection....something that might have come from that
lettuce?

You could always eat brown rice or white rice which for me is very binding...although from your
description, my gut works differently from yours.  Never ever get diarrhea unless I overdo magnesium citrate. If anything, I need to work on bowels getting looser, to maybe poop
when I feel bloated rather than have to wait till the next morning before I naturally feel the
urge....lots of raw veggies help me get my bowels regular....but, in your case might have an
extremely different reaction.  My husband a Warrior nonnie can easily move his bowels 3x a day.
Me, never. Oh, and DH takes ARA 2x a day....he thinks that's why he's being cleaned out so much.
Could your dose be too high?  How long are you using this entire protocol?

Personally, I find my entire gut gets completely upset from the Teacher's supplements. Eyes burn,
skin itches, gastric reflux from the HCL in the activator. Flax oil I take off a spoon....and the good
bacteria from Polyflora A seems to be all the supplemental pbx that I need.  The pbx in the activator feels all wrong.  I think  this is where my gut flora is a little bit more A-like and less
Teacher-like.  And maybe I'm a bit Explorer like in this respect.  The wrong pbx and I feel awful.

Also, when your gut is upset, it's good to back off all supplements for a short while....get yourself feeling balanced......add back in 1/2 doses, one formula at a time....Go very slowly.  Sometimes less is more.

More than one time a day and less than one time a day are very rare. When it happens, the cause is easily identifiable! (Major change in eating and sleeping timing or some bacterial or fungus infection).

If I add pineapple to my diet, more then once a day. If not, then once a day.

And it is clockwork. I try to do it first thing in the morning (thanks to the lemon water). But if my schedule goes off (on the weekends), it ends up skewing to the new time.

When I add pineapple, I found that I was going once in the morning, and again after work.
