I guess I'm still not sure how important the whole Non-secretor thing is.  What are the usuall differences between secretor and non?  How come there isn't a secretor forum?  Are we special?

Yes, we are :)

Since non-secretors have to be more strict with our diets (or else our bodies make us regret it), and we all avoid many of the same things, it's helpful to have a place where we can share ideas, and commiserate a bit.

Also, non-secretors of all blood types share a lot of similar problems and food restrictions, which makes them a special grouping. This is not true for secretors, at least to any where the same degree.

Well I really am a nonnie because I seem to be very sensative to certain food.  I just wish I could stop seeing this as a weakness.  Like type A = weak immune system.  Non-secretor = even weaker.

Nick,
best way to know is getting your test done.

nick105-Nonnieness makes us strong and special.  We are the royal bloods. ;)

"Once you get your brain wrapped around the idea that you are a nonnie-all is well."   Really and for true.

nick105-great that you did take the test and you do know.  When I first found out, I thought I was okay with it, but was not.  It took me almost six months to finally get a grip on it.  I could't fight it so I accepted it.  And...still learning everyday also.  :)

Nick, we A nonnies have several dozen different Avoid, Neutral, and Beneficial foods, compared to A secretors -- almost like two different blood types.  Also, our recommended frequencies for several food groups are noticeably different (see Live Right 4 Your Type).

I was actually glad when my test came back "nonnie."  I've been living with weird little health problems all my life, and I would have continued to have those tendencies whether or not I found out that I am a nonnie.  But now that I do know, I can tailor my diet to help deal with those tendencies.  And I can have bananas!

Well Nic, I think there are some advantages to be nonnie. We are able to eat tomates isn't it great and of course we can eat meat (Turkey)and I would starve without (natural being a nonnie ). And we know we have to take care against illness. There are lot's of things You can do against . Morinda citrofolica takes care for me.

Just saw X Men (the 3rd one) today--with the interesting theme of a "cure" for the mutants.  Just think of yourself as an X Man.  :)

We all understand your frustration.  Humans like to think of ourselves as invincible.  Still, knowledge is power, and without your knowledge, you would have continued to put yourself at risk for many more years, and possibly even shortening your life.  You can compensate to a great extent for the weaknesses you see in your blood type and secretor status by basing the majority of your life's diet around beneficials.  There is no room in a non-secretors diet for avoids, in my opinion.  That is a nice thing about the nonnie clubhouse.  We all realize that!

I don't think of non-secretors as having weak immune systems so much.  I imagine it like the body being a fortress and harmful micro-organisms are the invading army.

Secretors have a strong and alert group of sentries posted as look-outs and they say to the invaders...."No, you cannot come in, or things will go very badly for you!"

Non-secretors have sentries who have a hard time telling if the folks at the gate are friend or foe, and so they say....."Well, come on in, and we'll sort it all out inside!"  Once the invaders get inside, we have a strong enough army, but are at somewhat of a disadvantage because of the cramped quarters inside.

hmmm; I am just reading the *teutonic bible of encyclop.* and here its just the contrary written in;
that our AB immunsystem, especially of the nonnies arent that *c...p* only because we are that friendly peoples to everybody ;) :D   and yup that's it what I said and remarked on my own; when others were just jumping because of being afraid to get a big-fat sepsis; never mind....my tennisball-underarms were just  right to get cured with and by BTD...since I am on this super-duper diet-never-ever have had problems here.... just because of inflammed underarm-pimples....better said inflammed atheroms ::);)

and nothing was to be seen in my blood either; no elevated BSG nor leukos...nor whatsoever....::) this doc shaked his head and murmured....can't understand....can't be
....so far I tried to make him understand what BTD is; but then...oups he did the same like Ion with her *eyebrow-magic* :-/  :-/ but with him and in his face ::) it wasn't that amazing ::) :D

Have you seen the movie (or read the comic)?  That's actually the theme!  We shouldn't be "cured" even if we could be! Celebrate our nonnieness!  :)

Hi folks,
I've been doing the BTD for 8 years and am just now deeply owning the non-secretor piece, I REALLY want to heal this insulin resistance piece. I want some real information, something beyond the little tags and bits for nons, and this site is making my head spin. Are there places on this site for O nons to get recipes? Is there a food list, something I can take to the market for O nons? I've got the Live Right book, but don't want to be carrying that around. I've gotten little booklets on everything here, but have yet to find one for nons. Does it exist? Thanks for you help.

The recipe section of this site is basically by ABO type and not broken down by secretor status.  There used to be and maybe still is a Yahoo e-list group specifically for non-secretors and with an emphasis on recipes.  If you go to the blogger page and search in the "On the Diet!" column under key words like "nina" (the list owner's name was nina, if I recall from the column) or "Yahoo", you might luck out and find a link.  Heidi (who wrote that column) often referred her readers to that group.  I will try to search for that group in the Yahoo lists themselves and I'll follow-up by posting a link for you here if I find one.

Well, that was both far more difficult and way more easy than I had thought!

1.  Do NOT search in "On the Diet!" under keyword "nina"!  That way lies madness!  For some reason, approximately ten-zillion columns come up when you do that, so the string "nina" must be part of some other word/string that appears in all those posts--eeeek!  Abort mission, abort mission!

2.  I went to Yahoo and under "groups", I searched for "non-secretor".  A grand total of ONE group appeared, so this must be the one:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ER4YT-O-NS/

The bad news is, I'm not sure if it still has a pulse, as it says there has been "no activity in the past 7 days".  Not a good sign.

Good luck!

Edited to add:  okay, found some reference to "Nina's group" in "On the Diet!", but apparently Heidi never listed the link to that group directly, she would send requests for membership herself from her readers to the group moderator, as a sort of go-between (?).  So, no link to check to be sure I pointed you towards the correct group.  I'm not even sure it was a Yahoo group now, but at least there is that one Yahoo group I linked...if it even still has any signs of life.  It looks like it may have flatlined.

Debs, if you are a member of the group yourself, you could go to the link, find the address for the list owner, e-mail her and ask: 1.) if the group is still active and 2.) if you could PM Cherie with the link to it, so she could join.

That way, you could find out if the group is still going for your own info, and maybe help Cherie join (if it is).
:)

It must be a different group from the Yahoo group I listed, as that one is publically listed in the Yahoo Groups directory.

Sue, I think that's an email address.  You're probably supposed to send them a message asking to sign up.
