Should I post this to the testimonials forum?  :-/

I'm 33. For about 15-20 years, I give up eating and drinking during the day, from dawn till  evening, for  a month in the year. This is called "oruc" and it's a kind of prayer, sorry I don't know how to say it in English.

This year, I experience a very different "oruc" time than previous years. I have no headaches, no cravings for black tea, no cravings for snacks.  :o I feel fit the whole day. I feel a bit thirsty and sleepy in the afternoon, but this is quite normal.

My health must have improved during the 6 months I'm exactly on BTD.  8)

I looked up in the dictionary, it said "fast" was English for "oruc", but I thought it wouldn't be correct. I see now that, since you too used it,  fast is the right word :)

It's quite difficult without water especially in summer, I agree. Having a light meal before dawn with plenty of water, makes it easier, though.

Yes, fasting is the English word for abstaining from food or certain foods, especially as part of a religious practice. But no water, too?? Wow... that is a challenge!! Is this fast a part of Ramadan?

I am glad the BTD has helped you with this... and in only 6 months time  :)

Just imagine what you will be like 10 years from now!

Ramadan is coming soon, I wish you an easy fast. There is a diet book out now called The Warrior Diet which recommends fasting in the daytime, as our ancestors did always running after, or away from, animals. The idea is that you eat most, if not all, of your food at night.

Hi Betul.
Have a good "oruc".
As a b I am wondering how you coop with tomatos, as Turkish kitchen has them in almost every dish.
Any ideas are wellcome.

Yes, this is part of "Ramadan", right. Thank you for your best wishes :)

Ion, it's really difficult without tomatoes. I use red pepper paste for cooking, and I'm used to it, since I've been using it for about 10 years here, in Adana. There are some recipies where you "have to" use tomatoes besides the peppaer paste. For example, string beans. Yaman told me once that I could use plums instead of tomatoes while cooking. Mona substituted plums for tomatoes while cooking string beans and got a satisfactory result. I tried it, too, not as delicious as tomatoes, but it worked well.

I try not to use tomatoes. This year, I have a difficulty, though. My mother-in-law lives with us in order to take care of the kids while we're at work. She's very strict to her own cooking type. She's old and I don't want to make it diffucult for both of us to stay together, that's why I now use tomatoes in most cookings. Though, I try not to eat them. I don't know how I will overcome this problem. Any ideas? A physcology challenge :)

It's said that plums were used in the Ottoman kitchen, instead of tomatoes. It must work, then.

Hi Betul, kiddo,

Great to hear you're doing well with Ramadan. BTD really helps when you are fasting. Try to have less at iftar (fast breaking time) and an hour or two later have a proper dinner. That way you still be having three courses.

Great advice! People usually tend to have the proper meal at the breaking time :). I try to eat lightly, though. I'll insist on that.

I've been using the Warrior for a while.  I try to eat no more than 2 meals a day when I'm not feeling well.  It's good to give your stomach a rest, yeah?  The Warrior saved me on my vegetarian stints...
