Greetings all and thank you in advance for taking the time to read, and possibly respond to, the following questions. First the observations:
On August 17th, the first day of the diet, Age 56, Weight 210 lbs, 23% bodyfat (measured in July).
19 days later (still 56) weight 201 lbs, (all 9 lbs in the first 12 days), clearer sense of vision, sleeping better, deeper, though still not longer, but arising better rested. Flatulence and bloating gone with now being wheat free.

Now the queries:
Feel the urge to bath in morning as well as evening; is this a matter of the body detoxing?
No longer waking up hungry, now pushing myself to eat before going to work. Also less hungry during the day; have others experienced this as well?
Is immediate weight loss, as in my case, normal, unusual, or, it is "just that everyone is different?"
What subtle or striking changes should I look for in the next few months?
As retinitis pigmentosa (sp?) runs in the family, and it is an auto-immune condition, does anyone know of anyone with this condition being affected positively by this diet?

wonderful terms of the auto immune condition... O's r most susceptible so, yes the diet will definitely help tame the condition you have.

In teams of the extra bathing...if you r prefusely sweating  during the day I would suggest you drink water inbetween meals.

eat in the mornings and you will find your moods will improve even more.

Have you incorparated an exercise program yet?

great progress!)

every condition in general is affected positively by the diet.
keep doing what you re doing and notice more and more possitive changes, not only in weight loss, but overall wellness.
are you also following the excersise recomendations?

Howard, I too had bad body odor if that is what you are talking about.  I don't know what that was.  It wasn't because i was sweating any more either.  When I went lower carb that went away.  Any body else know about this?

Thank you for the quick responses and kind words!

No, no sweating, just feel psychologically as if I could use a bath, wonder if night-time detoxing wias the cause behind this "intuitive twitch."

Yes to exercise, weight training and hill sprints, but have been doing the former for decades, the latter only in the last year or so.

Always eat in the morning, as a school teacher, if I skip breakfast I may not be able to eat until noon at the earliest. just not feeling inclined to head straight for the kitchen on arising, perhaps due to the smaller quantities, yet more adaptable food I have been eating.

Hmmm, no bad body odour, although I guess others would be the best judge of that; do I dare ask them?

try taking a bath at night with some epson salts..a few tablespoons added to the water

Epsom  salts? I'll try it, thanks!
I remember now that I used to find seasalt bathes a good addition when detoxing.

This sounds exactly like me. I have been on BTD for 10 weeks now and still find that I am not hungry like I was before. I actually wonder whether it is due to reducing the amount of carbs with the lack of wheat (carbs can make you hungrier). I find that if I don't watch my eating intervals, I can go far too long without eating as my body is not asking for food as it was before. I have lost 7 kg, so I guess my body is thanking me for not feeding it white bread for lunch and potato and pasta's for dinner. After around 6 - 8 weeks on BTD, I found my hair is softer and shinier, my skin is clear and healthy, I wake up feeling 'awake' and just feel alot happier in myself.

Thank you DingleMouse, glad to see that my experiences were not totally unique. I was thinking perhaps that the lack of hunger arose from the fact that I was getting the nutrients I need from the most economical source, as opposed to eating too much food in search for what my body needs. I didn't know that carbs make one hungry, that would make sense as I always used to find that a carb snack led to the desire for more carbs...not a good pattern, especially late at night!

As for softer shinier hair, I will have to take your word for it, fortunately, I am still have my skin. Waking up happier, sounds fantastic, I am looking forward to the possibility. Thanks again, Howard

Definitely seems to be true at least for type Os.

What is your dinner or night eating like?

My dinners usually include fish, sweet potato (or sometimes Ezekial bread, 1 slice toasted, with almond butter and flax meal), for veggies: kale, green beans, green peas, broccoli, or spinach etc a combination of these, but never all at once. Primarily broccoli or kale and one other item, at each meal.
I often had pineapple juice about one hour before dinner, but my naturopath told nme yesterday that its high sugar content would retard the body's ability to drop fat around the waist, so I have stopped as of yesterday. I used to snack on dried figs and prunes but have no doubt that this upped my sugar content as well!

It seems you're doing great!

I love pineapple juice too and used to drink it until I realized the amount of sugar intake it caused. These days I'm having fresh pineapple or pineapple in natural juice instead. You might want to try that  :D
My problem is I don't eat early in the morning before work and being a school teacher like you, I end up not having eaten anything until noon.

Thank you for the suggestion leila, it is hard being a school teacher as your life is dictated by bells more or less. The ideas you offer sound quite sound and I will try them. At present I have a half opened can of pineapple juice in the frig and plan on having half a glass every couple of days until it is gone. I do love fresh pineapple though!

Unlike you I eat early in the morning, usually around 5:00 a.m. then rush out to catch the 5:30 ferry to work (I live on an island in the Pacific Ocean just off the coast from Vancouver). Unfortunately, I usually don't have the opportunity to eat again for another seven hours. In the past I would have slipped some walnuts, almonds, filberts and pumpkin seeds into a container and brought it to work for snacking at my desk. Now, however, our school has become a nut-free zone due to potentially deadly allergies experienced by a growing number of our students. I do have a shaker with a lid in which I place rice protein and have it with water at recess, if time allows.

Oh! Oh! And I used to think leaving home at 6:30 was really early. So you are an earlier bird... Are you a morning person then? I mean I find it really difficult to eat at that time of the day... Maybe I should give it a try. You've motivated me...

The allergy you've mentioned... How old are the students? What are the symptoms?

I teach high school students. There are students who could die if exposed to peanuts, as a result all nuts are banned from our school and any outside food must exclude peanut oil. A teacher in one of my old schools actually died from being exposed to peanuts. He was 32 years of age and had not known he had a deadly allergy. I believe in such cases that swelling in the throat region cuts off all breathing...but don't quote me.

Yes, I am a morning person! I am usually at my desk between 6:15 and 6:20 a.m. I find I can do more work between 6:15 and 7:45 a.m. (90 minutes) than I can between 4:00 and 10:00 p.m. (6 hours)! Also, no line-ups for the photocopier!!!
Another teacher bought into the idea and started coming in 5 minutes earlier each day. Now she is usually there by 6:25 and finds she has much more time for her husband and children at home in the evenings.

Just an update, as of today, November 6th, 81 days since starting my BTD, I have lost 20 lbs. When I started I was 210, and am now 190. When I was in my 20s ! was between 180 and 185. I am 6'4" so I am starting to look lean...before I just looked mean! :-) I plateaued after the first two weeks losing very little for a while. After about 2 months, I lost no weight at all for about three weeks, just now I have dropped another 2.5 lbs. Must go shoppping for new jeans soon, the baggy, saggy in-the-rear- look doesn't work for me (especially at age 56)!

Many speak of sleeping better at night, not me unfortunately, often only 4:30 hrs of sleep about 2-4 times a week No trouble getting to sleep, just staying like that!

Thanks Lola and Michelle. lola your comment reminds me of a random moment in a grade 9 English class some 5 years ago. We were studying Romeo and Juliet and out-of-the-blue, one of my female stuidents blurted out a question that had been playing in her mind (for how long I don't know), "Did Romeo have a six-pack?"
Sensing her concern and aware that I wished to keep her focused on the play as much as possible, I gave her the only answer I could give, "Yes!"
She seemd satisfied with my response, and retreated back into the mysterious world her mind was inhabiting. She never brought up the subject again, and none of the other students bothered to ask how I could be so sure about such a thing concerning a fictional character.

Howard, I think it is great that you teach HS students. I live in a house full of HS students. And it amazes me the Q's the ask ~ completely out of no where. If I had my dream job, I'd be doing what you are doing ..... for the meantime, I'm a mom .... raising boys (2 my own) and the others are tag-alongs and most days I have at least 6. Whew ... my cooking (job) is never done.       Now, back to your weight loss that is incredible .... how do you stay motivated? I'm not unmotivated it just seems I want quicker results. But I am losing steadily and loving my foods and enjoying this new feeling within my body.

Hi Michelle! Sounds like you are a great mum, if you can be surrounded by high school age children and still wish for greater exposure, then you are one of us! I stay motivated by seeing each meal as evidence of my being in control, as opposed to so much more that goes on in life. Also, I like to rewire my self-image to imagine what I could do and look like if all goes the way I wish. And why wouldn't it, I am in control...aren't I!?!?!? Self administered brainwashing!
