I was diagnozed with low blood sugar and my doc recommended the BTD. I have been on it for 3 weeks now and I've lost 7 pounds. I expected to lose weight since I cut out all junk food and french fries!

My chronic sinus problems seem to improve but then took a turn for the worse. I started the Allergy protocols and my nose dried up and the congestion went to my lungs. Boy did I start coughing. And now the congestion has gone to a fever-virus. This is very frustrating.

So how did I get this virus being on BTD?

1. Maybe the stress from worrying about what I'm going to eat next lowered my immune system?

2. I went cold turkey when I did this diet. Is this detox?

3. Bad luck. Its just a coincidence that I got this Spring virus?

4. Or my immune system is shot and no amount of BTD will ever help me?

More info: as a child I tested positive for allergies. As an adult I have tested negative twice. But it seems like my sinuses react will allergic characteristics.

If this is detox, how do I get through it?

Help!

Jeff

I would recommend doing the detox protocol, and get lots of sleep!  Did you go coldturkey? that may very well have done it

Wow, you lost 7 pounds in THREE WEEKS?  That is great, hardly a "so so start".  As for the sinus thing, sounds like you do indeed have a virus or something.  You ask, how could I get one if I'm on the BTD?  Well, the BTD does help to optimize health and the immune system, but sometimes one will still get a cold or the flu.  There could be an element of detoxing, too, although I think this really is a "bug", but perhaps due to detoxing, it was better able to take hold and flourish.  Anyway, ride it out, stick with the BTD, and afterward you will see your health getting better and better and you'll feel more and more vital and energized.  You may want to go out and get some 100% elderberry concentrate and just take a swig of that every few hours until this thing clears out of your system entirely.

Meanwhile, 7 pounds in three weeks is great, AND it sounds like you have a really good doctor, too!  Welcome, and let us know how you are doing in about four weeks.  I predict great things, vitality-wise!

When I went cold turkey, I got sick four days later. I want to also point out that when I quit smoking cold turkey, I also got sick four days later.  Big changes just mess with A's.  :)

Welcome to the program!  Sometimes going cold turkey will kick up a few reactions by your body.  But stick with it, and you will see some wonderful results.

Imho, I often see this as just a way for our bodies to communicate with us, that something hasn't been right for quite a while.  After you're on the program for a while,  you will find that your immune system will respond much faster.

The BEST result will  be an overall improvement in your health, which is priceless.  There is a LOT of support here, and plenty of knowledgeable A's to help you with the details.

Again, welcome!

Same goes for O's!  ;D

When I quit smoking (first try) in January 2000 I became sick as I'd never been sick in my life before. The flu, two colds and some nasty lookin' skin infection! YUCK! I started smoking again (not because of the illnesses, though, but still...), and it cleared right up.  :D

Next try last September. And again: Colds and flu's went hand in hand. But this time my throat was so sore at last, that I really didn't feel like smoking again. And so I'm an ex-smoker today. (Oh, and the virusses all went away after a while).

So, gordonfreeman/Jeff - I'm no expert at all, but it sounds like detox to me. And I too think, that you have done great! 7 pounds in 3 weeks is awesome!  :o Congratulations!!! (clap)

It sure sounds like detox to me.  When I went cold turkey, I had a lot of congestion in my nose.

Hi Jeff,

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time.  Have you been back to your doc?
Maybe he can tell you if it is a virus you have...also he maybe able to help with advise re the supps.

Lucky you having a doctor that is helping...mine thinks I am a little crazy but has to admit I am healthier now than ever before.

Re getting colds and flu and stuff...well I still get a cold from time to time...with all the sick people coughing and spluttering over us it is a wonder we survive at all.

Don't get stressed about going cold turkey...it isn't for everybody....just take it in small steps if that is what you feel more comfortable with.  Some people need more time...any changes that you have made will be for the better.  And wow what weight loss...somethings working.

Make sure you have plenty of down time and drink lots of fluids.  I hope you feel better soon.  Keep us posted on your progress.

Sue.   :)

Hey gang

Well I survived the virus/detox thing. I feel like I made it through a gauntlet of some kind. Going cold turkey was the only way to do it. Knowing what to eat and what not to eat is powerful knowledge and I was ready to follow the guidelines. I had lost 11 pounds after 1 month, from 179 to 168, but now seem to be hovering around 170. Its all coming from my waistline and face. Pretty amazing diet.

Although I don't feel supercharged with energy, I am breathing easier than I can ever remember...and I feel like my body has been cleansed. I do find myself eating at least one Avoid per day.

I continue to take the following supplements:

Quercitin w/bromolene
Hawthorn
Vitamin C
Pro-biotics Acidophilus
Echinacea
B-12 1000 tablet under tongue

Are these ok for an A to take on a regular basis? I'm thinking of taking Milk Thistle too.

Again, thanks to all for your encouraging words. I really think it was some kind of detox although my wife thinks it was all virus.

I continue to promote this diet to everyone!

Jeff

Great news!  I'm glad you rode it (the detox wave) out and are now in calm seas!  Keep on keeping on, you are doing great!

Virus during detox.  Sounds like a pattern here.  Happened to me too.  I was only on the BTD plan 2 months when I got a virus....I thought it was this season"s " flu"  then a nasty bacteria infection right on top of that.  But I rode it out and all went away.  I am  doing the protocol for sinus now.  Is this a common pattern?

Have to say the same thing happened to me.  When I first went on the diet I got a "cold" within a week!  About 9 months after that, I took my secretor test and found out I was a nonnie.  I then cut out all the nonnie avoids I was enjoying before and it was deja vu all over again -- within a week I had a "cold".

Same here, poor health for a long time, and then a sudden change.  Boom was I sick with one flu after the other....I'm still waiting out the last one to leave me compleatly.

I sort of expected it.

But the somtimes very sudden drowsyness I did not expect.  Did I see something about candida causing something like that? It is not low blood sugar, I allready had that checked.

Happened to me too.  Had no mucus in sinuses ( I chalk that up to no dairy and wheat), but the detox went straight to the throat and lungs.  Worst cough and pain I had had in a long time. (having labor pains was easier).  For three days I coughed and I was at my brother's, at the time for Christmas.  I was so exhausted I even coughed in my sleep and did not know it.  My brother couldn't believe that I could still sleep.  Ended up sleeping in the lazy boy at night so I wouldn't wake everyone.  Woke up on the fourth day and it was gone and I felt great.  Now, when I get a tickle in my throat I load up on the green tea with lemon juice and load up my meals with onions and garlic.  ;)  :)
