Those who remember my posts might know that I haven't been the most compliant person...
That I'm an "all or nothing" type of person and that I've not followed my Swami if I knew an upcoming event would prevent me from staying compliant, or let's say it would have been more worth waiting until that event was gone for me to start.

Well here we go, with Christmas and my birthday over, I have no more excuses to be gorging on all the avoids I could possibly find and I'm starting the diet, aiming to be 100% compliant during the wash out period.

I will also try to post daily to keep this as an incentive to stay compliant.

Sooo I'm on day 2 of the diet and I have to say that eating good compliant food makes you more fulfilled than any junk food you could eat. Also the knowledge that I'm doing something good for my body is really motivating.

So hoping to keep on that note and I'll post tomorrow to update on my doing.

Day 3, still 100% compliant, although I exceeded my daily allowance of bread and weekly allowance of poultry yesterday :-)

I would love to lose some weight as well, but I'd rather cheat on the recommended portions than eat avoids.

It's funny how after only 3 days I already feel so much better! I'm not feeling tired anymore all day long. This definitely motivates me, as the benefits will only increase  with time :-)

I wouldn't worry overly much about the portions for the first week or two. Get your  body adapted to the right foods (and off the "avoids") and then you can do the fine-tuning. You may find yourself naturally eating "the right amounts" as your appetite adjusts to the new diet. If it doesn't happen naturally, you can focus on portion control at that time.

For now, aim to get enough fruits and veggies, rather than thinking about "keeping meat and grain portions down." Focus on what you CAN eat. Once you're eating all the produce you should be eating, there's less room for meats and carbs.

Day 4 and I never felt better!

Yesterday I didn't feel tired for the first time in a long time! I kept going till 9 pm when I first started to feel tired :-)

I felt weird though last night, I came home and just wanted to eat and feel really full. I wasn't necessarily craving avoids, I just wanted to eat loads of comfort food.

I also felt sort of depressed and angry, like I was in a really bad mood. Anyone had that a few days after going compliant?

You may have all sorts of "old" emotions / pains as the body clears stored toxins.  Each of these occurrences is called a healing crisis.  Just stay compliant by looking for beneficial foods to replace the food being craved.  Usually there is something (nutrient or food type) that the body is looking for / needing, so finding a "good for you" replacement is the key.

Mmmh, makes sense.

I've decided to go as Ruthie recommended, not to dwell too much on portions at the beginning, so I don't feel proper frustated...

Soooo Day 5!!!! I'm feeling tired today, despite having had enough sleep.
But I'm really motivated this time as I enjoy the thought of doing something good for my body.

Week end is coming up, these have been the most difficult to get through as per my experience in the past. I considered go out and celebrate the Chinese New Year here, but it will be too tempting with all the food around... I think staying home will be safest.

Day 6 and 7: I had a set back, pretty much as expected...
Friday night I was so hungry and not bothered to cook, since I hate cooking in general, that I had some fries and a sausage...

I did think that this wouldn't mean I had to gorge on avoids the whole week end, but I kinda did, thinking "I'll start afresh on Monday".... As I do pretty much every week end...

Anyway, even so, eating compliant food 5 days out of 7 is still better than none.

I think I get into this frustating "diet" pattern when I try to go through the washout period, knowing I'm not allowed any avoid... And I just crave the forbidden food.

I might be much more compliant if I was allowed the odd avoid now and then, but then the wash out period would not be much efficent...

Anyway, I'll keep trying, thinking every day spent without avoids is a win.

I think this is going to be a major obstacle in your goal of ongoing compliance. If you are able to cook up tasty meals on your own it makes it much easier to avoid slipping into junk-food relapses. Have you considered making up soups or stews to fill in the gaps rather than turning to quick filler?

I'm afraid something basic is unclear here. Avoids are avoids for lifetime, not just for wash out periods. Avoids create a vicious circle withtin the body, because we become dependent on them - we are accustomed to them, we like the way they taste, they have become an integral part of our daily lives, and this is too bad. The reason they are avoids is because they disturb and hinder the natural healing processes that naturally and regularly take place within a healthy body. Avoids just don't let the body perform optimally its healing work, and whenever we add them back, we fall into the same pit again.

To tackle the painful cravings for avoids' comforts we need to devise strategies like the one suggested by Shoulderblade. It is possible to get avoids out of our sight by surrounding ourselves, 'flooding' ourselves with abundance of compliant foods of all kinds, develop easy and quick methods of preparation (like steaming), and plan and see to it that the next meal is always taken care of. This way the tables will turn, and the wheel is going to spin in the direction favorable to us.

I have, I baked a whole batch of muffins on Saturday and cooked some rabbit stew on Sunday. Unfortunately, my freezer is full already!!!

But you're right, I did myself recognise the problem then, I have to be prepared ...

Rapeseed oil is CANOLA oil :-(

It does take time....

Naturally, as long as you have them around, the odds are that they will find their way into your mouth... a matter of habit  8)

I didn't drop all my avoids at once, but I'm not a all or nothing person. Can't remember if you said you where. Anyway try not to beat yourself up. I think 5 days of being compliant is a very good start. Use up what you have and replace with something on bene or neutral list. wishing you the best.

Okay, I spent last week eating avoids, all of that because I accidentally ate an avoid  last Monday....

This is how pathetic I am with my resolutions...

However, I decided to try again from today, as somehow I have to start on a Monday...
Well, at least I'm not giving up. I have been doing well so far, I'm not having any cravings and I even went to buy a compliant salad, as I did not prepare my lunch yesterday.
I'm quite proud of how effortless I surrendered to eating a salad, when Subway and KFC are so close by.. ::)

I will not try to keep to the portions for as long as it takes me not to feel deprived of anything. Thinking of that, I wonder if they're right for me anyway...
Swami asks you how often a week you exercise, but I don't think it takes how long you exercise in consideration.

I know my SWAMI says 40 minutes, but I do twice as much in one session. So since I'm not too bothered about my weight, I'll keep the portions that keep me less frustrated.

All right, hopefully this time is the right one!

Aaaaaaall right! Yes I know, we've been here before, which is why I did not want to post until I had some serious results to report.

Well, it's not that amazing, but I'm on my week 2 of the diet and am really motivated!

I'm not really respecting the portions, as I'm too afraid of the frustration making me want to binge on avoids. I'm sure it's better anyway to eat beneficials and neutrals in abundance than keep eating avoids only, as I used to do.

I do miss the "take away" effect, food you don't need to prepare, but I like the idea of only putting healthy stuff in my body.

My energy levels are already so much better and I get so much done in one day!

I would love to lose weight, but I'm thinking having giving up sugar and wheat would still allow me that, especially since I'm training at least 3 times a week for about 90 minutes. And if it doesn't and I don't feel deprived of the diet anymore, I will then think about following the portions.

So, wish me luck!

It sounds like you've come to a healthier appreciation of the diet than you had in January and February.  This "all or nothing" mentality can be very damaging for those who don't manage to do "all" right away (and few of us do!)

Remember that SWAMI is a tool that you can use to help you achieve better health. It includes recommendations for an "ideal diet" but not everybody starts out healthy enough to follow it exactly. Give it a few weeks- the increased energy level may lead to weight loss even without focusing on portion sizes.

We all have many false starts and life can just get in the way. After this winter I'm starting all over. Just don't give up!

Keeping the avoids out of the diet is the most important...  You can always eat a little less once some of the healing is done and cravings have lessened...  You may not need to consciously make the adjustment - the body may do it for you after some time.  
Be patient even if you get into an avoid - just brush it off and continue with beneficial foods at the next bite...

I have to say, I've  never really given up, even if I had many long lapses, it was always with the intention to start again.

I think so too, and it transpires I've already lost 1 kg in just over a week (sorry, still can do imperial measures....), eating as much portion wise as I wanted to.

I can't say I have cravings like I used to and I don't miss sugar at all!
The only thing is I have made a batch of the Blueberry Spelt muffin from the recipe centre and I can't stop eating those!!!

Eating 6/8 a day instead of 1.5 recommended.... But still, it's compliant and I've managed to lose some weight still, so I'm not gonna dwell on that.

I can't let myself eat any avoid at all or I'll use it as an excuse to binge till the end of the week and start again on Monday....
But I've passed the week mark and I would hate to have "wasted" that time by eating avoids again.

So fingers crossed I'll be brave during wash out period.

Whoop whoop! Starting my 3rd week and more motivated than ever!!
I've also come to almost enjoy cooking/baking... let's say that with that new found energy, I just get on with it without thinking too much :-)
And I've got no cravings whatsoever for avoids!!! When I see ads for junk food or sweets, I just think how much c**p (pardon my French) is in those, and find myself free of any craving.

Weight goes up and down though, but I'm not too much bothered as my BMI is perfectly healthy. Maybe when I've managed to go through the wash out period I'll start thinking of complying to portions, but before then, it would put me too much at risk of crashing.

Anyway, I'm thrilled and it looks like this time is the right one!

And started the 4th week, still 100% compliant (dance), yaaaaaay!

I've baked a few almond cookies and can't eat them because they're way too SWEEEEET!!! I finally found a cure for my sweet tooth! My morning snack today: tomatoes, cucumber and spring onions  ;D

I'd love to start sticking to the portions, but it demands so much organisation!!! And I'm training for my purple belt in Kung Fu, so haven't got much time....

But again, I'm simply happy to be compliant.  

Also, I'm not dreaming of the end of the washout period to be able to have a few avoids like last time I was compliant for so long. Now I am looking forward to certain black dots but am determined to stay away from avoids.

Couldn't be happier with the results so far!
