Just sharing another 'theory' for when nothing else works...

I find the idea of oil interesting.  I never get enough and have no clue on how
to increase my intake,

This 'diet' offers the idea that a spoon of tasteless oil one hour away from
food twice or three times a day will satisfy more then the need for oil. It will
make eating my already smaller portions more tolerable by not asking for more
soon after.

Like always in my trials and tribulations, my ideal is not to go off any food
that is not on my Beneficial or better list, with a few compliant neutrals.

I have been really bad recently .. the last 5 month, eating bread near every
day, and my CHOLESTEROL went from 150 to 256 in the first two month.  I will
test today again to see how much more damage I did.

I will give this added oil a try.

I scrolled down to where people wrote about their experimenting and liked what
Bob wrote in 2009.

I was introduced to this “diet” / wight control method around Christmas 2005 by my older son (he was 25 at the time). He had run across Dr. Robert’s research, tried it, it worked and he explained to me.

I tried it …went about a week or so with no noticeable effect. Well into week two, I was having one of my favorites lunches (club sandwich and fries) when I found I could NOT even think starting into the second half of the sandwich!

That was the start of my appetite crash; at 6′ 225 lbs, I was a bit on the pudgy side but over the next four to five months I lost about 30 pounds. At 195 my wife said “too skinny”. I dropped from 36″ jeans to 34′s.

I tried to convince my younger son (21 at the time) that this method was amazing & had ended my struggle to easily control my weight. He was very skeptical (despite being a Cal student). He gave it a try and a couple weeks later he called me. He told me that it did indeed work but he quit because it was cutting into his “recreational” eating.

I’ve used it on and off since early 2006… works great for me. I don’t dose on a daily basis. Only when I want to drop weight. When on vacation, I eat whatever I please knowing that when I return home I can easily lose the weight. Starting at 225lbs, I’ve been as low as 195 and Thanksgving 2008 to Christmas I edged up to 212 but after the holidays I “dosed up” and got back down to 205.

My setpoint seems pretty stable and I’m super happy with the method.

I’ve used fructose, sucrose, olive oil, safflower oil. With the oils, I hold my nose & glup it. I follow with a warm water chaser.

I’ve read this entire set of responses & in the beginning I got the feeling that the CalorieLab folks either were biased against, didn’t understand or hadn’t tried the method. I’m still not sure of their position or understanding of the method.

Whatever their deal is…I really don’t care, the method works great for me.

To the skeptics that think sugar is evil or bad….use oil. Even so, the sugar dosing he suggests is no worse than a couple cans of sugar soda.

Being an engineer and somewhat of a self experimenter, I used a glucose montior to check my blood sugar rise for the 2T suagr dose vs a typical “bad for you lunch”.

The “bad lunch” was a hot dog on a white bun, pepsi and potato chips. This meal took me from 95 to 152 in about 45 minutes and back to 105 in another 2 hours. The sugar dose ramped up to 132 and back down in about 1.5 hours.

I’m happy , it works but I gotta get back on it since I’ve been eating my way back to 210. My wife is a great cook and the food is just TOO tasty. :)

If the method doesnt work for you …keep with it, at least three weeks.

Make sure you avoid ANY flavors within an hour (before & after) the dosing. I dose at 10AM & 2PM and if I really want to crash the appetite, 8PM

I'm not that much convinced in always going for any tricky things to persuade our body to go for ..... something else then he/she is trained on ::)

I observed best and quickest results while taking MAP, a very special and human's body adapted aminoacid containing only the 8 essential aminos we really need but knitted together so that our bodies profit mostly without any sideefects of nitric oxide etc coz it only produces about 1 % insted of about 80% !!!

Often we loose tissue and muscle that we normally need but the fats ariung belly-backside etc are still to be seen- this can't be healthy and yup fatty acids are also important as mentioned in lr4yt but also here Peter is right, the A's & AB's do really have sometimes a hard time to come along with too much of fats....equal of what kind !!!

I once gave a try to such an experiment but it didn't worked for me at all...I only burped the whole day and felt terrible... so far after not even a week I went
off.... :D

On the face if it, if you had to cook up the ultimate stereotype of a wacky fad diet for use in a comedic novel or film, the Shangri-La Diet would fill the bill. While we’re not necessarily saying it won’t work, the one-man lab rat nature of its development is far from proof of its effectiveness. Goldie, maybe you hunger is because you are definicient in one of the good fats?? i know myself, that i do not liek fish so i do not eat it often even though i am supposed to have it at least 4 times per week. i started taking an omega 3,6,9 supplement that comes in a liquid form and i find that i am not as hungry as i used to be. it is called Udi's.

Sugar cravings are caused by snacking and by an accumulation of toxic polyunsaturated fats in the cells.  They block glucose from entering the cells via the Randle Cycle and are the likely cause of diabetes.

I've read about SLD lately on other forums.  People seem to do well with it.  If you decide to do it, use  refined coconut oil, not ELOO.

Ok so this is what has happened since yesterday:  I did not really understand the need for TASTELESS nourishment that never-the-less provides energy... Now I think I understand the reasons behind it. = NOTHING to look forward to, while  still satisfying the need for 'something'.  


I took one spoon of extra light olive oil morning at 11 and afternoon 3.30

I ate regular food the rest of time.

I will see how this goes.  Doing the oil in place of a TASTY snack to satisfy 'hunger' might buy me time before needing to eat.

(I am not trying this with 'sugar' as that might trigger me or my diabetes.)
I eat my sweets in dark 87 % chocolate.

Day 2.

I took 2 spoons olive oil for each snack time (one hour away from food on either side...I ate Swami Beneficical and Diamond compliant the rest of the day.

I hope it will help with bathroom issues.

I expect no differences for some weeks from now, but possibly a better handle on feeling 'hungry'.  It is a feeling that is not tolerable.  I am looking forward to this tasteless snacking, as it seems NOT ask for more.  Tasty items always ask for more. It is easy to put 2 spoons in a small bottle when I go out during snack times.

A good read about benefits of oil and look at the warning also..

For Day three, today I am adding Trehalose with D-Ribose as a watered down snack ... available if I need another pick me up...

On expanded view on Ribose..(a sugar good for us.

I am currently not restricting food habits nor amounts.

Day 3, I had a leftover from dinner breakfast / by 11 one spoon of oil.  and was surprised that it was 12.00 and i was not hungry as I normally am at 11.30 every day.

I ate a egg cheese and onions omelet for lunch and then at  pm3 I had the second spoon of oil.  It was 5.30 before I even thought about anything to eat.  I made dinner for 6:30 and did not have to eat more then a small dinner.

It is 8 pm and I am satisfied.   Very peaceful hunger wise.

I reckon for some of us anyway, extra fat is really important... Having lost over 20lbs since early Dec, I hadn't lost any more for a wee while now, even though I avoided any fat for ages?!

I have now been adding butter to my meat in the last few days & have been losing weight each day (nearly a lb on one day) And that is also despite eating a small amount of chocolate in the evenings ;) Exercise, type of & amounts of foods have stayed pretty well the same...

The only other thing which has also lessened, has been my exposure to a cologne & shaving cream that a guy we had staying with us was using ??) In desperation (as I had already told him the scent hung in the air & affected me for ages after he used it) I taped a note to his bathroom door late one night, begging him to use it only when he was showering at college ::) So finally, no more toxic smell coming through the plumbing to our bathroom, up the stair well & lingering outside his area of the house...(clap)(dance) Whether that has helped the weight loss as well, I'm not sure?!

Possum.. Good luck.  and maybe try the oil as well.

Day 4.. it is AM and I stepped on the scale and did not believe what I saw even though my belly showed it also. I had to get my glasses to see it and confrim it. I had been bad eating for a few month, mostly ONLY with bread added, and I had gained 21 pounds. Well I knew that, a lot of the weight was water accumulation to which I am prone.  I have taken 2 40 mg lasix waterpills after my airplainride, one each day Friday and Saturday.

MY results are a 9 pound drop in water weight.   I MEAN if that does not confirm Dr D in his no grain advise, then nothing does.  

As you know I am on the Swami wagon again.  I eat regular meals, albeit half of a decade ago, and I am NOW taking the spoon of olive oil twice a day for the last three days.  

I am once more astounded that I had no need for inbetween foods besides the 3 meals for the day.  The tastelessness of the oil and hot water chaser, is not stimulating on endless walking to the fridge to find 'something' to eat.  NICE!  Look at the results.  AND I FEEL HAPPY.

Day 5 .. Yesterday I was able to take oil with me and take it at 11.30 am and then have a can of tunafishsalad and a banana for lunch.  Later during a theater break I ate a sweet, I had to spit it out it felt sooooo sweet.  By 4 I took the oil and then dinner at night.  After watching some TV i might have wished to look around the fridge, instead i took another spoon of oil, and then slept like a baby until 7 am  Nice.. no cravings ...

Now for today if i could replace 2 eggs for breakfast with some other food, then I would feel really successful.  I will try steamed zucchini  and see how that goes.

Goldie. I am happy to hear your progress with the hunger pangs. I can relate. i am always hungry no matter how much protein i get. I ran out of the oil i was taking, but maybe i'll sub in another oil (flax, maybe) and see if it helps me. good luck!

Please read the link in the top or go online and see THAT flavorless oil (or sugar) is the key.  I have come to understand the need not to stimulate my BRAIN centers by having the tasteless snack.. It's like getting on infusion of soothing calories and a sort of balming the insides of my acid-like stomach without triggering wanting more tasty foods.  

It is remarkable how calm the mind brain stomach connection is doing this with this oil.  I can wait til eleven after breakfast and I can push out the need for lunch by 11.30... that for me is interesting. I can also wait the extra hour in the later afternoon to make dinner at 6.30 instead of wanting dinner at 6.  These may not be big progress, but for me when 'hunger gnawed at me, then life was a struggle, unpleasant, making life not worth the struggle...

I like the portions I now consume, and think I am closer to the suggestions of small portions in Swami.-- I might look to list my food intake a small in swami, considering my age, and see if Swami then would cut my food down.  (not that I ever followed it as I was tooo hungry). Age might be a factor in the way we look at that question in Swami.  Or, diabetics in later ages might consider the same for their needs.......

Good luck on what you will try, just take the oil with hot water chaser, one hour away from food on either side.  For now I am eating normal foods for the three meals and one fruit as a treat.  

By now it is4pm / many hours later.  I had breakfast  of steamed zucchini, then oil at 11, then lunch by 12, and by 2 on icecream.. I NEARLY gaged on it..

My body and better MY MIND?BRAIN stomach had NO NEED for it.. IT DID NOT EVEN TASTE GOOD!!!!

This oil business goes back to Adelle Davis during the last century.. She knew what she was talking about!!!! When the brain has what it needs in terms of fats.. it settles down to quiet.. WOW

Goldie - it may be that the gnawing pains you associated as being hunger were not hunger pains at all? I remember whenever my Mother would have a cup of tea or an apple (each by themselves for just two examples) she said she would get a gnawing feeling in her insides that she interpreted as needing to eat more?! Maybe in her system those substances triggered a particular acidic response with the stomach lining?!

Hi Possum,

when I referred to acid stomach I did not say over acidic.. just the normal acidic stomach for on O..and still it is what I suggest my stomach is doing when making me hungry..

I am astounded that I am NOT hungry.. I just hope this will last a long time along with BTD GENO Swami Super Diamond and Beneficials.  

I even wonder if I wish to have dinner tonight.... unheard of..

I am willing to try this long term..  and if I lose ONE pound a month.. I can do it and drop alll the weight I need to drop over 3- 4 years time.. Just to consider this as on idea is all tooooooooooo surprizing, I never had that KIND of patients.  WOW..

I realize you guys are O's,
but thought I'd add for your consideration that I and Henriette, both B secretors, have over the years been enjoying full-fat dairy, rather than low-fat dairy, and have found that it improves satiety and helps with weight-loss/-stabilization.

So possum's use of butter, if that's okay for y'all, might be worth a try where the flavor/use is useful in the dish you're cooking (not recommending you eat a Tablespoon of it!)  :D

Cheers san j (although there have been times I have been know to do the above :B )
There are definitely times/days when I need that extra fat & could eat it on a spoon/knife ::) But then next day I am almost repulsed by the thought of it so must be a connection there ;)
Exact same thing happens with my appetite/need for red meat, so makes sense ;)

Possum, you hit the nail on the head! LACK of stomach acid was causing hunger and nausea for me. After starting HCL I am a much happier person. I would feel nausiated between meals and my stomach was always growling. With HCL, the growling is gone and the nausea almost gone. I used to feel it about 45 min after eating and now it's closer to three hours and not nearly as intense. Food used to occupy my every thought, waiting until I could eat again. MOST people actually have low acid. I think mine got worse from too much seltzer/club soda. I was constantly neutralizing it. Bathroom habbits definately show I'm breaking things down much better.

Also, I'm same as you, sometimes I just have to gorge on fat! And I do eat it on a spoon!(usually my flavored mayo) Oh so satisfying!

Cool; thanks Mother!! I think people cling onto the idea that O's have strong stomach acid, when they don't always... :-/

There's a test you can do involving bicarbonate of soda & counting the seconds till you burp to see if you do have or not... Very useful as it helps you eat accordingly ;)

As I said, those hunger pangs can be different to what we think & it just exacerbates the problem if we keep eating when it isn't real hunger ::) ;)

Sure enough, I did the test at 7 am, burped after lunch at 1:30! LOL, what do you think....
Also, this last year,vegetables and  fish( and small amounts at that) have been my best friend, Can you say deminishing stomach acid??

Day 6.. I am totally astounded again.  I had a banana for dinner and was totally satisfied.  Then after some hours of sleep I wake up and was feeling what I interpret as hungry.. not surprising after just a banana since the icecream at 3pm and a very small lunch with zucchini for breakfast...

I watched a movie and then sort of had that spot where I always feel discomfort,,, a spot the size of a silver dollar on the left under the ribs.  I was told it is the exit valve of the stomach.  

Well after a while I decided I would take a spoon of oil with water chaser and instantly that 'slight pain discomfort' went away.  Normally only food would make it go away.  I fell asleep in minutes and woke with no stomach issues at all.  Neither hungry nor wanting..  NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  

After hundreds of doctor visits, I wonder could it be that all my issues might have been from a need for oil coating on the inside?   Could life be as simple and peaceful just for a spoon of oil?  I AM ASTOUNDED!!!!!  

I have HAD NO NEED to think about food at all the last few days.. I feel NORMAL. What a discovery IF it holds true.  Makes staying Swami compliant a breeze...

Goldie- i just read the article, so now i know what you mean about taste-less oil. I'm not sure if i agree with him about his theories about set points and tasy-ness with hunger. My feeling is that i'm hungry because i am deficient in something. I know do not get enough Omega-3, so i am currently taking a supplement in pill form, but i may tried it (flax oil) in liquid form. It might be that the oil coats the stomach and makes it think it is full. the hot water chaser might flush it into your intestines however. i may try both. good luck on your journey!

I'm sure it was lunch, I just never burped! I'll have to do it again soon since taking the HCL and seeing if I'm producing more acid yet. I take 3 or 4 with each meal. Lots of people take upwards of 8 but my protein is small. How many ounces of protein do you eat at each meal and do all your meals contain animal flesh?

I eat two eggs most mornings..  (I am looking to reduce it to 1 egg.)

3-4 oz meat fresh cooked with veggies for lunch
and the same or a little more meat for dinner.

The rest is hit or miss with cheese- avoid/ mayo- avoid / icecream, avoid. .

I might eat a avocado as well - don't know about protein for that.

and now the oil..

It is evening and I ate a small piece of meat at 5 because I was hungry with a half banana. I felt genuine hunger before, but not the pain like feeling I normally get.  The oil at 4 was a great something to look forward to and kept me from 'suffering' for the extra hour.

If I need anything else tonight I will try another spoon of oil, but not until later.  I am trying to reduce tonights food because I ate a little more for lunch  --- tuna salad and green salad with a can of peas, half banana, small chocolate. I was famished.

Day 7.. I took a third spoon of oil, even though I had no stomach 'pain', nor hunger.  I did it at 2 am after being up 2 hours, shortly after I fell asleep... Nice.  I usually stay up until 4 5 am am...  I woke at 7 feeling comfortable.

I am staying in a house with 2 little doggies.. I take them for a walk around the kitchen table every few hours in a fast clip.  The pug wants to sit down, but some coaching and he comes along.  all day I get some exercise.

Snow sleet and ice.. but the kitchen is big.. 5 minutes of fast paced walking is good and is supported by others who see short compressed exercise as a good thing.

It is 5 pm and I had breakfast of 2 eggs with green beans, 3.5 oz steak for lunch, some fruit a little later and the one spoon oil at 11 am and at 4.30 and all is well.  No stomach pain.  No cravings.  And dinner is ahead ... I hope this satisfaction lasts...

Remember I am O .. not all types might feel the same..

No offense... It's just that you said walking "round the kitchen table", which didn't sound like much?! Yeah, no, you wouldn't want to be walking/slipping in snow sleet and ice ::)

Obviously any movement is good (my MotherinLaw could only manage to walk up & down the  hallway at one stage, after a back operation, but good on her - she did it!!) But I thought it was worth mentioning as I kidded myself for years that I could lose weight through no real exercise & diet alone...?! This was partly 'cos I was too unfit/lazy/ lacking in motivation to go & walk outside?!

We have the opposite problem with the weather right now & when it is hot, my elliptical trainer seems to seize up & every step feels like torture, compared to how I normally feel doing the 20 mins...  I had been doing it fairly religiously every morning for the last few weeks & if I haven't, I've been for a half hour walk a few times on the semi flat (but nothing too strenuous)

It is probably partly the good effect on the lymphatic system, but I am feeling much fitter & am more motivated, so last night I decided instead to walk up the hilly streets near home, which I hadn't done for ages... Usually I'm out of breath if I do, so I never exactly relish the idea... Was so surprised when I got up two hills & one slope without even feeling like stopping??!!

Possum, Good morning..what is the temperature by you these days?   There is wisdom in what you are saying. I have been walking over two miles on a beach for the last 4 weeks, and now I am back in snow country, so I have to adjust.. You are right, snow and sleet does not last long, and movement is good for body and mind.  

Breathing for me is always an issue, I have shortness of breath - had it all my life- do better at ocean side. Caffeine would help greatly, but I got rid of that pleasure because it gives me nasty side effects.  (in the car I drove 5 miles faster for every cup)  Now I go on my own strength and less power, but still I move quick and the dogs run.. The pug runs better after the collar comes off and I drag it with the leash on the floor...  This kitchen is big and five minutes around the table the middle long isle the hallway and back is a stretch.  Picture it as a being would looking in from outer space.. haha ..

Day 8 and I had a good night.  I was nudgy after a sparse steak for dinner, with salad, so I ate a half apple about 8pm.  I slept well with that, actually all night, I had forgotten that a piece of apple at night takes acid re flux away.

Sorry apple is avoid, but that was the only snack I had.  Today I woke refreshed, and ready to work, taking my oil where I go. easy in a little oil bottle.

I have not lost any weight since my last weighing. I may need to do more walking to drop that pound a month I am looking for. a pound forever - but without HUNGER PANGS.. pangs is a better description of what I feel when my stomach valve 'hurts'.  NO pangs. haha... life is good, and saving money for avoid foods too!

Hi Goldie... Glad you slept better!! Is apple still an avoid for you even on swami? I grew up in the Apple Isle (Tasmania) so could kill to be able to munch into one now *sigh* (too much fructose ::))

Here it is a very steady & pleasant top of 23 (76) each day, with cooler nights, so was/is a very pleasant Summer (Autumn now as of today) We have had no real rain for months & up North & no doubt on the Sth Island, farmers are declaring a drought :o

Yeah maybe a tad more exercise eh, in order to lose weight? Hard I know!! But I can better picture that kitchen trot now :)
Yesterday I made myself get out & walk for about hour & have lost another half a lb... All the best!!

Hi Possum...Kitchentrot I like that.. a new form of exercising.. I have long advocated making everyday work a way to get some workout into it. I like to listen to with old fashion music because it is always cheerful and always has a good clip to its sounds... I can mix some nostalgia and a little homesickness with a little home spun memories of my youth.  Anything to get me moving.  What is your homespun sounding radio in your area?

I am still succeeding with my 'oil in-between diet' and I am succeeding beyond my best expectations.  I can eat three normal meals and not need a snack (or-avoid) food every other minute.  I have piece of thinking, or better , not thinking about it at all until 1:30 and not feel famished with a spoon of oil at 11... Or I can wait until 5pm for the second spoon and wait without care until 6 to eat dinner.

I know that a week is not long enough to see the success in this, or whatever internal changes I should expect.  So far I have no discernable changes happening, with bathroom issues are still as before.  I expect my skin to be less dry over time, but not yet.  I expect a 1 pound weightloss by week 4. or 12 pounds during the next year.  I could love that.  Just not having 'pangs' is still so novel that I could just do a jig for nothing else.

8 pm on day 8 and all is well.

Day 9.. and all is well.  2 tea spoons twice olive oil (120 calories) a day and I am good to go. No snacks to speak of and much more control over avoids - now.. I feel like NORMAL people must feel, with all NATURAL BTD GENO SWAMI foods.  ;)

This has worked out so well that from now on I will monitor here only once a week, as little will be news. ::)

I can have the 2 spoons of oil 6 days, per swami, so if I forget once or twice that will be OK too. haha.  

This 95% dieting is just so much fun. 8)

But if someone where to reply and tell me what the worst of cheats are - small scoop ice cream? compared to hot dog?  decaf, coffeemate? cream in decaf? or what other cheats are there for O nonnies besides a second fruit? Does not have to be sweet, could be cold cuts??? could be juice...  ??, maybe I need to start backing?

Tbh I would recommend for a snack/cheat if you really wanted it - something fatty over a second piece of fruit even?! For me, having cream in my cocoa works really well & feels like a treat... ;)
I don't often bother re coffee, even though I make it for my husband at weekends?! Only time is if I'm out & there's no alternative & I want to be sociable... Although I always have a small pot of bicarb in my bag & the last two coffee occasions I just ordered hot water & it was surprisingly acceptable :-/ ;)

Oh sorry... the update :  I am able to wait the hour between 10 and 11 when normally I would look for 'something' and then i can take the tea spoon oil and be good for another hour, no hunger.

Then in the afternoon I can do the same at about 3 and be good til dinner after 5-6-7.

The best is the mind quiet.. and the trust that it will work within 10 minutes feeling no longer hungry nor looking for something.  I do drink the water with it.

My friend who is A she tried the oil, it did not work... She is willing to try the sugar water suggestion and see if that will work for her, I will report on it later.

I am going to buy the book and see if I can learn more about the why's.. the good things also is that it is cheap, 'beneficial, and available easy wherever I am.

I am noticing a difference as well. I pour a little walnut oil in my morning smoothie and I am good till noon. Normally I go hungry at around ten.

I also eat less in the evening.

I've been intermittent fasting again and putting oil in my coffee in the morning. I don't even think aboyt food until about 11 am so then it is only a few hours until my fast has ended. I agree with the mental calm from not always being preoccupied with food.

Amy, the statistics say that if you fast the body feels deprived and the thyroid will adjust to need ever less and less to eat. As you get older you will need ever less. My 80 year old friend eats about 3 oz of chicken plain, and salad and a pretzel for snak, and smallll lunch and breakfast.. IF one likes to eat, that is a miserable way to live, and more importantly is she supposed to get her vitamins?  

I would rather have you use the oil to reduce the misery of waiting for food, and eat at least 3 normal meals.

For me the oil in smoothies did not work as this plain oil.  I used to eat many nuts, but still felt hungry.- looking for 'something'.

But no matter, anything that works for you is good with me.

The part of the book that is shown in the first post here, indicates that what works is getting some calories, without triggering the brain.  In other words, give the body the food value it seems to need, but not trigger the brain wanting more. Being tasteless seems to do that.  

Interestingly! some people (non diabetics) seem to be able to do the same thing with sugar in water in specific portions. see the book excerpt above...

The reason why this immediately clicked with me is that, I used to years ago, be able to satisfy the hours between meals with some chocolate or some ice cream, or maybe even long ago, a spoon of sugar in real coffee.

My stomach and my nerves are connected.  I am certain that I fit Dr D's profile of a person in perpetual state of hypoglycemia.  In other words I feel jittery without food in my upper stomach.  

And Science has explained this further, by discovering that there are two nerve pathways that go from the inside of the stomach directly to the brain, one saying I need food, the other I am full.  In some individuals the first nerve never shuts off, and the other never turns on.  In that reversed confused state the brain sends out all sorts of wrong messages, resulting in me feeling 'un-nerved'.

Fatty foods, tuna and mayo are stilling that confusion to about half, as it at least satisfies for about two hours.  Since I can not eat tuna every two hours, I look for other things that satisfy.  Real 100% cream icecream or chocolate (fat and sugar) satisfies for another maybe 2 hours.

But now with diabetes, and aging, (needing way fewer calories) eating smaller portions and avoiding all sugars makes eating to satisfaction much more difficult.

Here is where I found that tasteless (snacking) with the oil satisfies the stomach nerves, communicating with the brain that I am full, and not turning on the nerve centers that want more food ******..  Two results, I am satisfied, and have no sugar triggering an insulin response.. At Least that is what I expect to see in my next blood test.

*****  Yet, I still have to make the decisions on when to eat the oil, one hour away from other food or drink on either side.  And I still have to commit each time to: oil is good enough, or that I can do it, or that I am ok soon and not feel overwhelmed by 'hunger' pangs, fear of hunger, and not preferring some other more tasty treat.  This does not come naturally, but I can trust for now, the decision more so, because I know it to work.

Today, because of the brain stomach/habit confusion about the time of day, I was hungry early on, even though I ate way into last night, something I seldom do, so I decided to have a spoon of oil for the 8am morning hour now, until 10 am (used to be 9) and forfeit wanting to eat early, making my morning way to long for lunch at now - on hour longer then 'normal'.   I can still follow up with another small spoon full by 11 real time and then wait to eat at 12.  Peace!

Sorry to be so long winded, however I am talking to me as much, as to anyone who would read this far, or experiment with me.

I am going on a limb here: but could it be???? that anorexics or bulimics might get the calories (from a spoon of oil) they need for the body and intestines to remain healthier, or heal, without feeling ill effects?  

The mind is a powerful muscle and to trick it is most difficult.  For me right now the Light Olive Oil works/washing it down with a glass of warm water.  The water is much needed by my body also, serving two needs at once! Nice! ;D

Thanks for your concern Goldie, but for right now, fasting works for my life schedule. when i eat 3 meals and 2 snacks per day, i am still always hungry, never feel satisfied or full. with fasting, i am  hungry for a few hours, but when i do get to eat, i get to eat until i am full (on healthy compliant food of course!). I actually feel more energized and less tired. good luck to you!

What is with this always hungry thing?? I am too. However I do find vey small meals 4x a day is better than a regular sized meal, it just seems so unnatural. For instance I had a appelgate hot dog and 4 asparagus spears, this is to last me 4 hours. Now if i throw a salad in, I'm hungry very soon after with this ravenous, incessant hunger! To the point that all I think about is food. The smaller thing works better, at least for now, it just seems measly

So right about 'fasting' making me less hungry..  

I used to be that way when younger/ before diabetes/ now that is near impossible- unless I am really occupied- retirement is not- so thinking of food is on all day thing.

Then as for 4 meals .. Yes! but all together they are the size of what used to be one meal!!! does not work to feel satisfied.

Being hungry is a royal pain.. even the idea and possibly fear of getting to be hungry is annoying!

So for at least the Gatherers or the O's who do not get enough oil in the first place, me, try this oil thing.. it stilled the craving within minutes.  Then if I stick to it - still a decision to be overcome- then I am ok for at least the one hour on either side!

Good luck to us all.. hunger is not something to be acceptable, nor to be misunderstood, it is a big bother and full of unhappiness, especially when I am in some kind of pain from headache, or other wise...

you are so right on many points, especially the fear of being hungry. It is in fact almost worse than the hunger. I definately get enough fat, carbs are VERY low due to keeping diabetes from rearing it's ugly head and protein is moderate. I've tried all macro combos and nothing satisfies for long. I fear eating because it can lead to ravenous hunger which is worse. For me though, it does seem the larger the meal the more hunger it creates and by larger, I by no means mean large. Whatever are we to do?
I have also found that raising my insulin, even though my blood sugar is normal creates ravenous hunger which is why I leave at least 3.5 hours between meals but I still have to watch the clock because my 1st meal is around 9, not leaving much room for error to get all 4 in and if I don't get all 4 in, you are right, it's like one meal split into 3 as my portions are quite small, 1..5-2 oz protein and a handful of veggies with some added fat. Maybe I'll try the oil if I have to because protein raises insulin almost as much as carbs and fat the least. I think the small meals keep my insulin low and that is more important than low BS. Again, high insulin or raising it often makes me feel awful

I also am not hungry with them, I'm just not anything, hungry, full, stuffed, unbalanced etc and that is where I NEED to be. Food often makes me feel unbalanced, like a surge of insulin and I will do or eat anyway I can to avoid that! You are O, so why not try the oil when you feel out of control.  Test it and see. The freedom to decide might make the rest of the day easier..

For instance this morning I was off (time changes make nuts) ..

Then I decided that I needed to wait 2 hours for real food as I was going to meet someone for breakfast.  The morning oil worked, but breakfast by 10 was avoid!! and then I was off and running in the wrong direction...and had I forgotton the oil at home... by noon I was eating avoids and all afternoon the same. NO control at all.

Finally now 9 pm I was still looking for all that I could find to eat----until I made my decision to forgo all foods and instead do a spoon of oil and water..

Now 10 minutes later I am going to watch some tv and then go to sleep. All is expected to be OK!!!

Update: on the late night (snack) the oil worked fine I was up fir hours --- Had no need to snack!  All is well this morning too.

I know how a slip up or off timing can be horrid and wrecks the rest of the day! Too hungry and gorge... Don't get the timing right...all is messed up. This is no way to live. EVERYDAY is different too. Some days I'm not hungry and some always hungry, even with the same foods. Fortunately I know the foods that cause hunger but if the PROPORTIONS of the foods are wrong, look out. That's where everyday is different..Hmmm

I am so with you.. I use light olive, .. just be sure its clean and does not have grapseed oil added.

I use the oil because I can have it as a Diamond.. I could have other oils as well, but since I hardly any oils (unless in mayo or avoid salad dressing.. Olive is easy to buy and tasteless on my tongue while waiting for the water to poor into the cup..

The discussion about unbearable hunger.. no matter the origin of the feeling, it is misery and while I like the idea of less soda, it is not the answer.. maybe on open and real conversation about this out of uncontrollable feeling would be much more effective.  Punitive suggestions are punishment that just adds to the problem.

If this Tasteless Oil-theory works for some of us, to quiet the mind and nerve connection from the stomach to the brain, then millions might be helped.
At least those who feel miserable owe it to themselves to try it~~~~~ even though we still have to make the decisionto forgo other food for 1 hour on each side.  

This decision is not a given.  First I have to remember it  The body brain has a way of forgetting what it is against.  Putting up a paper saying: take oil! might help to remember... It is not that I wish to forget, but the body has its own ideas of what is good for 'it'.  and it has a mind of its own on how it pressures me to get it at all cost.  It does not care about diabetes, it is a companion of ill will.  Like that of a gambler, who just can not 'go there'.  

I am waiting to see how A person might be doing with sugar as mentioned in the book as well. For those who can not take oil, this might be a alternative option. on option that affords to still be eating BTD.. which is always my safety net.

Not... no ... nein... what would happen to those who are like me, I would just add a codependency addition to the hunger pangs felt in my belly.

I stress above how the feeling of out of control is real.. the only time I experienced the same was when I took hormones.  

Could there be a hormone stimulating 'something molecular' in the oil?  I have no idea.  But for now and for me it works, even without a person to be with. in fact I am living very isolated for several weeks, so that is not the solution.  

Would a new lover add potency to my remaining hormones, you bet it would,  at the very least I would build up muscles where right now I do not build any. ;D  

The loss of muscles as I age is making the amount I can eat much less then ever.

Isa I know you where laughing...I am loughing with you (send that tall handsome smart guy.. I will test him out as a diet aid)  .. and ..

but I beg all ... do not judge, live in my skin for a day or two.. hear the pain..   When I am not a victim of misery, then I am loving life and live it fully.   ... so mail that guy .... 8)

Perhaps you NEED MUCH more fat if you hardly use it but when you do it helps! I have to eat more fat than protein or carbs or I would be ravenous out of my skin. Maybe try switching fat for sugar and see, or have you already tried it? If sugar/carbs send you on a rollercoaster and oil tames you, this might be a ticket for you. I LOVE my mayo and eat it with every meal in some quantity or another. IF I didn't use oils, I'd be a goner

Sugar cravings?  OMG - Amino's work wonders!  I'm taking Tyrosine, DL-Phenylalanine and L-Glutamine.  I got my dosages worked out by reading The Diet Cure and The Mood Cure.  They also help a person GET OFF Caffeine without horrific side effects.

Also what is the actual way to test on the HCL need?  I burp pretty quickly after taking a glass of water and Baking Soda due to acid reflex issues... since I"m not 100% compliant on some things yet - but working on it!!!

If you burp quickly, you most likely have enough acid. I don't burp at all. 1-2 min after you are high, 2-3 normal and after 5 min without burping means low acid. The sympptoms of low acid and high are the same

The oil buys me two to 3 hours of not eating, not looking to eat, not thinking about eating, it buys me peace!!!!! from wanting..

I can use mayo and it stills my lunchtime hunger, but does not allow want free time after 2 hours, even when I had enough to eat at lunch.

The oil in this fashion of one hour away on either side and it being tasteless is some kind of a secure key that assures me having enough money in my hunger bank to be able to wait, and not spend any of the deposit.  

The tastelessness of the oil gives me time for a choice to eat or not to eat.  I never had such a choice.  Even on hormones I was restricted to certain time of eating or certain foods/calories. That choice for me is still a big issue.  Often I would succumb to foods around me, wanting any food. Choosing not to 'want' the foods around me, stilling my desires my addictive giving in to food, is as strong as is a choice one has a second before (sorry, no disrespect) before having orgasm, and just saying; no I will not.  Or another example of this hunger business, like standing at the top of a bridge and deciding to jump, and feel like that 100 times a day year in and year out.

Mayo works not to eat a loaf of bread, or french fries, but that kind of fatty foods will still keep wishing for more foods soon after -intact.

Look I am not trying to convince any one, the book is still coming, but so far this works for me... and is in compliance to BTD, and that is what is so nice and I can actually intake the oils Dr D recommends.

as for indigestion.. I never burp that i am aware of.. at least not out of the ordinary.. when I had acid reflux or not.  The biggest reflux reactions I got was when I changed to eating almonds, especially at night.

For that issue, I read somewhere to eat a slice or asmall apple at night, problem gone.

Goldie, I gather from what you have written before that your personal history may have something to do with your hunger. My sister's husband is German, and they nearly starved during WWII when he was a small child, and he still has a horror of being hungry. Thankfully, he is not overweight, though, and has very few health problems. Oh, I do love to hear him sing a German lullaby in his native tongue! It is so sweet!

No I was never hungry, I lived the best times of all the centuries, I ate my way through my early years, having all I ever wanted... I was lucky!

I started to gain weight the day I got married age 20 and never stopped since..

When I was eating all I wanted up to age twenty I as skinny.. size 5.. 120pds.

Over thirty years I went to 200 despite all sorts of diets. Today I am 160 to 170.. my live will be one long effort not to eat  because of what I think was a hormone change, and ever since then, I have battled all sorts of issues.  Love hormones would make the difference, but it takes youth too...

The stomach pain issue started at birth with some issues with milk, the residual issues are from my first 32 year long stomach pain, and disappointment of 50 years of having to deal with food and calorie issues.. Are some issues mental, maybe, but by now they are blurred, so in the end I might just say: the heck with it all and dye being fat and sometime happy.

If oil for now, is working, I still have to forgo pastry,and the rest you know for O's.. and then on top of that Diabetes. (but not moms cancers so far)

Hunger is so much of life, wasted, thinking about it. The only way not to get upset, is when I think of starving people in many places, or other tragedies. I am lucky thanks to Dr. Atkins years ago, and Dr. D'Adamo later, I am at least as healthy as I can possibly be.  (and not be 400 pounds) all is good

Yet the oil has helped also... I am getting the oil book tonight..

The book has arrived and I am reading it.

I think it is well worth the money and time looking at it.. A book that understands hunger..

So far a few pages into it I am exited to read he rest.

I am intrigued to read that certain calories are not the same as other food values. that some will add weight while others might not.

Some will sponsor hunger and wants while other foods might not.

I am going to be convinced in a hurry that certain foods trigger my wants, while others do not, and that some at least are in my swami list.  

I will report more on it.  10.- well spent..

Report: Interesting, one thing I noticed is that I could stop midway to my plate of food, but because I seem to eat the plate empty (fear of future hunger) I seem to be compulsively eat all the food I normally eat.

The book is not yet saying so, however I might try to just cook less and put less on my plate...go from lunch plate to flat desert plate - use my 5 inch pan to cook meat and veggies as always... obviously I can always cook some more..  I read that I can eat foods I wish, (BTD) and that is important to me as without that assurance I would become fearful...

Making those kinds of decisions are deeply wrenching.  The process of changing pot size feels at first traumatic, yet if I was truly not hungry, then maybe it would be less threatening. Only days in future will show how I might handle this.   The simplicity of this is not in eating less, but reducing hunger pangs... and then allow to feel full when it might be enough, the first time --- not when the plate is empty...   wheee--- Breath!

Ok so I got up at 4 and was concerned about food????? ???? then i took some oil, and went back to sleep, got up took another spoon, and am feeling just dandy... My body had enough food calories to sustain the stomach acid or not/ communication to the brain or not, and all is well.

I am playing with the idea of if I need to eat more for the morning, then I would just eat 1 egg. Currently I would like to just eat when I am hungry, and for the amount for which I feel hunger... it seems the oil dramatically reduces that be it a feeling or desire or habit.  

Tonight going out to eat I will do oil in place of cocktails, and ask that half my food be cut and placed in a box to take home.  As it is I do not eat a big portion, yet if I can reduce it, who knows what possibilities may come from it.

Olive oil has 120 calories a table spoon, I take half of that when I take it, so I can have 4 spoons when needed... getting afraid to be hungry... which is the mental component for me... something I learned inadvertently/mistakenly when I learned that certain foods will make me sick.

OK the jury is in The oil works.. no need to change anything, continue what you would eat any way...  

In my case I had one egg for breakfast, the oil is now a given so no need to talk about it much longer..  ;D  others may try the sugar,,   8) then I had 3 oz of meat and romaine lettuce with Parmesan sprinkled.. I feel full, comfortable self assured that if i was to get thinking of food later I can have a spoon of oil again in on hour...  Sooooooooo reassuring! ;)

What is different ... it took me three weeks to figure out that I might be able to reduce my portions and still not be hungry...!... maybe go so far on Swami and make the change to not medium meals but small.. I wonder what will happen then on portion of food value..   unimaginable i!!!!!!!! LOL...

This might very well have been the missing link to the BTD for weight loss and hunger anguish suffered by some of us... Life is great!

I had taken the oil at 4 and by 6-7 I was ready to eat but waiting was possible.  I drank a cup of tea with just a little sugar and it tied me over.

In the distant past I used to eat something sweet to stave off feeling famished and making it through cocktail hours. I do not drink so sitting or standing is just boring when hungry.  In the afternoons long ago, I used to eat something sweet, and it worked to tie me over.  I think it is the same with this idea of sugar as a means to stave off the need for eating other foods, often more damaging foods.

Sugar might be having its own bad reputation, but if used in the prescribed manner in this diet, then just maybe it might save a lot of anguish. I for one was able to have a time waiting for a rather late dinner last might with just a little sugar, and so I would try to do this specific sugar 'snack'.   Those who do not have diabetes in their family history might well be able to use sugar without ill effect.  

I also think that each person ought to be evaluating their own reactions to either oil or sugar and take the full suggestion as a means to reduce unreasonable hunger. For those who do not suffer from hunger as some others do, they ought to 'learn' that this is a difference that is so much in need of being recognized as such.  

People who judge over weight people ought not do so, nor should they receive mercy, as we all suffer from not knowing what to do... yet understanding this new sugar oil suggestion and just maybe afford us and others to learn about this way of controlling the body part that is hungry - even understanding that  the mind is still something to be dealt with at the same time...still not easy.  

Giving up 'freedom' to eat whatever or whenever is a hard pill to swallow.  Even  after immediate hunger is stilled, the thoughts still haunt me and choosing the right thing is still a challenge.  I am up to it for now and I feel I can make a difference in my life.... and others can do it in theirs.

One other difference this way of eating teaches me is that some food/ calories are worse then others, that taste and calories make a difference in how the body reacts to those foods and how it triggers the mind to eat if not avoids, but maybe to much ..

Reviewing that might make some semblems of difference and learning this might be another key to understanding food and the body. It might well be that there is more to understand, such as is all that we where thought by our past decades.  Just as the food pyramid changed, there might be more to evaluate here especially with our understanding of foods in our BTD lists..

I need to do so and I hope the learning will come to full measure, adding what I know to new discoveries. This always renews my own interest in BTD showing me new ways to interpret what was written by Dr D long ago...  

One recognition I have to make is that I can and need to eat at least the 3 regular meals mostly as before (not cutting them as well,,  .. but saving the snacks will make a difference, as peace of mind is much needed and possible..

I came across a time for caution.. if Gallstones or gallbladder issues are on issue with oils, then either try sugar, or very little oil to start with.. Read the book..

Lisa, you may be very right, in older age one might need all kinds of supps.. I have closets full of bottles tried and found making no differences.  Should I at 70 and food reduced take a multi vitamin.. most likely it would not hurt, should some or all take many different items .. no doubt some might do wonders.. Just look at all the sups Dr D has developed, The problem with them all - one never knows what actually is for what...

There are ways of finding the right things, but only few people do proper testing.. even with proper testing we miss a lot.

In the end my hunger issues have been with me, from the moment someone mentioned diet..   At the time the word diabetes was mentioned, and from then on my life has changed.  Had my episode in the hospital with diarrhea  triggered my sugar sensitivity, Or was it the 4 day mistreatment that stimulated the sensitivity? or was it the fear that created havoc in my brain.. I have no idea, but the issue was never on issue before and was with me ever after.

I wonder what if any supplement might have been useful -- with today's knowledge -- could some have made a difference?  Maybe...

I'm with you and the supplements Goldie! Some make a difference for three days then stop. Some one can't tell, some make it worse, who can ever really know? With all the money spent on full, half full, I'm done with most. I still take D and sometimes B complex and HCL for now. HCL seemed to diminish hunger in the begining but not so much anymore....I still think I need it as I know I have low acid. Oh, and transdermal mag. I haven't noticed any ill efffects from any of these but the rest are certainly questionable.

I know, detox right? Who's to know if it's detox or my system just doesn't like it? If it is detox, I'm tired of detoxing... (I feel great just eating my right foods without added supps )

Yes most often this is the case.. A few exception:

Ligaplex ll from Standard Process for Fibromialgia pain.  I took quit a bit more then what is on the box. I took it when pain came back.. I needed it. No bad effects.

Vit B 5 Pantothenic Acid.  For all cell-wall healing.. and fewer blisters/Herpes. for 500 the first bottle three hundred the second bottle, then 100 for all times or at least for stress times. This per Dr D.

Iodine patches for those who need it according to absorption through skin. For Thyroid function.

Armour Thyroid support, for thyroid when tired.

5HTP for hormone strengthening for one week then when needed once a week at first then once a month or less - for psychy when feeling loss of self. or for light depression.

Trehalose Complex from Dr D for depression, stemming from the need to clean stuff out of the body and brain.

That is all I wish to need although I added Magnesium cream for fibromialgia due to nerve anything from diabetes.  

And I bought Energy Equipment to help with fibromialgia Pain and deterioration.

And now the oil.. nut reading the book is a must to commit to a life time of doing it.. for my peace of mind about hunger.

So now you know.. and you did not even ask for it.

If all goes well this ought to be the last post as I still eat BTD?Swami foods and all is well.  I will heal from inside out and wish you all the same.

I am going to copy this thread into my regular files and keep it for the next 10 years, so that I would remember all that I learned as I went on...  It is so easy to forget, but for now I am enjoying this way of eating.  I have a choice three times a day on what or when to eat.  I can choose the time of day I wish to eat, or have a food break and do Oil instead.  I can chose to eat early and do oil later, or opposite,  so nice.

I lost 6 pounds! in one month now,painless and satisfied.  I even have 3 bars of chocolate in the house, so much felt good that I forgot about them.... and again I had a good bathroom day.  Hallelujah...  after all the years of struggle...******  8)

I take the oil in place of looking for 'something', and I take it in place of snacks. It gives me freedom to choose when to eat my 3 regular food meals. I now eat with many different spices.

I have had horrible issues with breakfast making me very hungry very shortly after eating. I tried everything, high fat, high protein, low carb etc. Awhile ago I do remember the best success I had was celery dipped in mayo, no protein and no carbs to speak of. For some reason that didn't seem right so I switched back to salmon/veggie salad and hunger was back. Yesterday I tried 1.5 t oil at 9 and wasn't hungry until 12:30. I cannot tell you how good not having that nawing hunger felt! I definatley have enough fat in my daily diet so it's not that. There is something with morning insulin that can make make people hungry after eating breakfast which is why some people do better waiting to eat. I'm toying between oil and fasting. I think I'll try fasting and if I get stuck,m have some oil. Fat is the least likely to raise insulin or blood sugar. I also had a pleasant morning in the bathroom. Not sure if it's connected but we shall see.

Mother, i am doing fasting WITH the oil. Coconut oil is a bene for me, so i put a teaspoon of oil in my morning coffee. seems to help with the fasting. good luck! glad it is is working for you Goldie! congrats on dropping 6 lbs! i know how hard it is!

VERY good to know! So you just have one teaspoon of oil and don't eat until 3:30? Not eating surely helps me but I think the oil could help a ton. My husband says it helps him too. If he doesn't have time to eat, he just slams a little and it says it carries him awhile. How many times do you eat in your 5 hour window? I can't afford to lose weight so I will need to eat like 3x's, I'll just make then small I guess

Ok so this is most imported.  this oil thing is a life time commitment.. if you start it is most necessary that one read the book and the theory behind it.  (When you stop taking the oil you might gain all the lost weight again..)

Adding oil can make you gain weight if you eat it with food.  The concept of eating it between meals and away from foods is key to dropping weight... in my case I eat relatively no snacks, or if I do I might forgo the next meal with oil.  I am trying to stay low to relative within reasons to 3 meals, and ... with the security of doing the oil I have trust that I will not be hungry or wanting... For the first time in my life I can wait one hour to oil and one hour after oil for thinking about food.

The tasteless theory is a functional thing and fundamental to this way of living.  Spices matter also...

If I will not be hungry, then I will do this oil thing for the rest of my life in the prescribed way of doing it.  I am lucky as I only do one teaspoon at a time, so I have plenty of oil options for late evening or when I get up at 4 am...

What is monumental in this is the 'loss' of hunger, - the security and trust in food in a good way - and that it is doable with any diet or life style.  There are no don't do this and don't do that.  Eat as you would what is good for you, and fit this 'break' in eating in to make you feel comfortable.  

For those who wish to gain weight, take the oil with food and you will gain ..

Those who have constipation issues I would say take the oil one teaspoon or two or three spoons.. or a tablespoon... a day for a full month and see what will happen, took me at least that long.

For those who wish to drop weight, choose the time in which you can afford to give up a snack or a meal and take the oil instead......

Yet for all who consider this: please read the book, do it justice, do it right, and follow through correctly.  It is easy, and in my Swami the oil is actually good for me and now I know why and how to take it to make the best of it.

It's actually easier to figure out food. I get up around 7 and at 10 or 11 I have a tsp of butter, then between noon and 1 i have a salad with some protein and at 6 I have dinner. Sometimes I have a small snack, like an almond flour muffin or a few veggies and dip around 4. Then my food day is done until noon the next day. NEVER in a million years did I think I could go anywhere near that long without food but it's actually much easier if I don't eat breakfast. I'm not saying I don't get hungry but it's not that gnawing uncontrolable hungerFasting hunger is much easier to manage. How's it going for you? Some days harder than others?

mother, i ate about 2.5 times after i break my fast in my 5 hour eating window. at 3:30 i have "breakfast" which is more like a lunch--some sort of stew with meat, veggies and quinoa and a banana. when i get home i have a small snack (a home made cookie or some nut chips) and then i have dinner, meat/fish with veggies and sometimes rice pasta. and then i have 2-3 home made cookies. i should really add more veggies, but right now this is what it is.

This is day 4 and skipping the butter. I don't think I'll eat until 12:30 or 1. It's getting easier but like you said, between 10 and 11 are more challenging, but I got through it today. I lost 3#'s in 3 days and really can't afford to lose any however...most importantly, I have lost it in my stomach (adipose) which is always the last to go. So that makes me happy. I think, especially for me, giving the digestion a break is great.How long do you plan on doing this and what benefits have you seen so far? I think I'll be doing this a long while as I now realize any BF makes me unbalanced. I never used to eat breakfast and now I remember why!My blood sugar is ideal this way too. I think as a whole, we eat way more food than our systems require which would be part of the reason so many people have digestive troubles

I also find taking oil in the morning at about 11 is ideal..

To drop weight I use it twice  day or later in the evening.  and I don't eat any snacks to speak of, just three regular BTD/swami meals.

Once you start this way of living it is for life... because if you do not do the oils you will be hungry once again... happened to me yesterday!

my goal is to lose weight. i really should exercise, but it is a struggle to fit it in. i want to exercise, but with 4 kids under 8, they are my priority right now. So far i have lost zero pounds, but i feel much more alert and clear headed. i may need to drop the oil in the coffee, not sure why i am not losing, the weight almost melted off the last time.

are you eating any grains dairy fruit or nuts? They could also be the culprit. SOMETHING you are eating your body doesn't like. Maybe try switching out the coconut oil for ghee or butter. Alot of people gain on coconut oil. Grains, dairy, fruit and nuts will surely make me gain. Maybe try just protein and veggies for a few weeks and see if things budge.I am keto and I know alot of people think it's bad but it is the ONLY way I feel good and manage weight. If I eat and carbs other than veg I ache and am very fatigued etc. Oh yeah, what's in your cookies? Maybe that's it.

amyflood anyone with 4 kids under 10 does not need exercise, you need sleep, a full 8 hours without interruptions and then you will be able to drop weight.

Your body is protecting itself by remaining padded...

As for oil in coffee ?????????- it is the way to gain weight -- in my new way of eating oils.. one can not add oils to food....see for the book.

To drop weight I need to be able to free myself of desires to eat ... eat more food and or really eating in-between junk.  By eating a spoon of oil one hour away from all food taste which is my way of being able to not eat as much, or not for the two hours before and after the oil.  99% of the time I can wait 3 - 4 hours in-between eating real food.  This the all new way of life - in comfort and pleasure.

I am curious why you add coconut oil to coffee?  Is coffee on avoid or not? It is for me, but I cheat 5% and decaf is one item I do it with and with coffemate... Years ago coffeemate was made from of coconut oil and I loved it.  I wonder is coconut oil in coffee the same? sweet and taste changing?

You are so right, yet being in ketosis all the time, is that OK?  I used to be able to go low carb, below 60 carb grams, but as I get older I am not able to make the commitment to those restrictions. But I did have greater energy short term.

I am careful not to suggest my way of (oil) eating just by my experiences,
yet I gained much insight about oil and or ingesting oil.  I am in this thread, not talking about fats other then 'tasteless' extra olive oil - tasteless is the important key...

I am doing something from today on.

I am taking a full teaspoon of oil, after one hour after my morning drink.. and then will see if I can skip breakfast until until lunch. If I get hungry I can still do another smaller teaspoon before lunch as a snack...

In that way I get some calories (120) but still not more than 2 eggs. I might be able to get away from the daily eggs.  Change is good.

Yesterday I sort of skipped the afternoon oil, ate chocolate instead,and was nudgy, bothered all evening until I cooked some spiced rice and ate it way to late.. gained 3 pounds.. I legitimately ate to much.

So back to: more oil, and less food to regain that peace!

At the very least I have (no hunger)options.. nice!

Goldie, yes, sleep is very important and i try to get 8 but it doesn't always happen. coffee is an avoid for me too, but see above--not enough sleep. i've tried yerba mate and green tea but they do not give me the morning kick i need. I love choffee (roasted cocoa beans) and seems to be good stimulant wise, but it is very expensive so i slipped back into coffee. i'm currently trying to quit (again). I quit coffee at least 4 times a year! i will try the oil away from my morning drink and see if my results change.

Ok I did the no breakfast..was not fun..I was to hungry by 11am.

  I will do breakfast as I get up and then do the oil in-between, being aware that I am adding those oil calories in place of snacks.. less snacking is giving up enough...

and the book does not require more changes.. one of the nice things about this sugarwater OR oil way of 'snacking'.
