This post involves  a sort of update! Since my long ago last time visiting the BTD forum my family and I have managed to raise a flock of 16 chickens  and now provide eggs fresh right from our property. Very free range when the weather is warmer the flock wanders around with patches of snow on the ground and try as they might can't be getting much. Winter fare includes fresh kitchen scraps of all kinds and a "layer pellet " feed that is all organic and very expensive but lists organic soybean meal as almost the first ingredient. (winter protein is vital to chickens). Anyway, a very well intentioned pal advised me to look for soy free layer pellets to feed my flock instead and I found some (even more expensive but can't get a supply just yet. Instead of soy  it lists "organic field peas" as the first ingredient. I need to go over the problem with using soy all over again because I'm very concerned about what my friend says are important issues involved in eggs from chickens fed soy. The phyto-estrogens (?) seem to easily make it into the eggs of soy fed chickens. So what does anyone think of this. Is there still a good for type A's soy caveat? Are soy fed chicken eggs just fine and dandy if you are an A and what about me being an O? Is this winter feed going to come and bite me? I've seen eggs sold as "fed soy free " and wondered if it was worth pursuing but my friend has prompted me  re-examine this matter. Thanks!

I've paid extra to get eggs from chickens fed flax.

Flax contains more phytoestrogens than the soy.

So obviously I am more concerned with omega-6 in eggs than phytoestrogens.

I can't answer from a scientific viewpoint, but it seems like your choice is to provide adequate protein for the hens or to go with a lower protein grain.  When we had hens, we fed a corn heavy diet.  I ate so much corn (and chicken) lectin at that time, that I'd never have noticed some in the eggs...

That list of other common estrogen laden foods does level the playing field somehow. It is not clear if the different foods were analyzed with inputs to the animals diet cited being a factor of significance. Though it was mentioned. I guess there are some valid concerns regarding the trade off in risk/ benefit. People alarmed by the subtle and not so subtle endocrine disruption posed by eating too much of this in everyday foods certainly have quite a mine field to navigate. I suppose the chickens may pass estrogen no matter what they eat if that list has validity. Studies show this and that and the other thing too. Have firm BTD positions been declared here regarding organic soy consumption by young and old alike? The thing about Endocrine disruption in young people is the critical timing that seems to present the disturbing challenge here. I gather in older folks it is more of a cumulative issue. O.K, O.K. I tried to do the due diligence thing and read each of the archived messages regarding soy. It's all quite old but rather comforting. I'm very tempted to place my trust in 13 and 14 year old information presented by this forum. The well organized archive link was put together about 3 years ago. The flavor of some of it has research squabble clearly indicated which tells me much of the determinations elsewhere are simply misleading. I trust Dr. D over most other sources if for no other reason because he seems to face and address the big picture better than anyone else.
I don't see how my precious A's could possibly take in more soy or soy influenced foods even approaching if any, limits of concern. I will try to get my friend to provide me with the data that initiated this thread so we can stack it against the evidence here. I guess my wish is that new positions have built on these older ones and that (organic)soy affirmations are still in order!

It's far healthier to eat the eggs of a soy-fed chicken than it is to eat the soy itself, if you're type O.

Soy is a pretty strong phtyo-estrogen in Os, but a very weak phyto-estrogen in As, who are able to digest the soy proteins much more fully. I'm not sure if chickens have  blood types or how well they digest soy, but it's quite possible that they digest the soy as well as As do.

Frankly, my biggest concern with a soy-fed chicken would be GMO proteins making its way into the eggs, and that's clearly not a problem if you're buying organic or GMO-free chicken feed.
