Finding out that something called "Sushi Pizza"
originated in a Montreal Japanese restaurant in the early 1990s and spread throughout Quebec and Ontario, then becoming popular in the American Northeast (and onward from there), I was interested to find out more about it.
The concept is: A sturdy, chewy (baked/fried) crust of sushi rice, covered with thin avocado slices, sashimi salmon or other raw or cooked fish of one's choosing, and a wasabi/mayo sauce with toasted nori sprinkle.
Or a variation thereon to your heart's content... perhaps a lemony ponzu sauce...
If you google keywords: "sushi pizza", you can find out more about it, especially if you do so under "Images" rather than under "web" so you can see dozens upon dozens of examples.People here at dadamo are frequently looking for crusts,
so the sushi rice crust really appeals.
I think the "pizza" style of eating is user-friendly, and certainly preparer-easier than sushi for a large party.
Also, commercial "rice cakes" are, for me, off-putting, but real rice, cooked, serving as the rice cake beneath the "pizza" topping, is far more appealing.
You tube is also loaded with sushi pizzas, but I didn't see anything particularly attractive during the minutes I devoted to researching this there.
