There is a new procedure used for testing for secretor status.

http://www.4yourtype.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TE007

This test is based on examining the FUT2 gene.

This test is accurate even if blood type is unknown or is inaccurate.

Want to know more about secretor status, view this video:

http://www.4yourtype.com/MEDIA_video.asp#spotlight

If you had doubts about your secretor status based on either the saliva test or Lewis test, this give you a new way to determine it.

This test will not be thrown off by slight bleeding in the mouth.

This new secretor test seems ideal for those of us with smaller children. The secretor blood test was uncomfortable enough having to squeeze out enough blood drops for the sample, and the saliva test (which one of my sons did a couple years ago) required a fair amount of saliva collection as well. Either of those tests would be very difficult for my 8 year old to go through, so the swab test sounds perfect.

Is there anything else that the FUT2 gene test can reveal about my daughter's genetic history other than secretor status, since we have no family history on her?

FUT2 also indicates how strongly someone is susceptible to norovirus.

If you want to know more about a person's genetic heritage, I would suggest a more comprehensive genetic test. These are not offered by D'Adamo Personalized Nutrition, but if you search online you will find a number of vendors with various tests at different price points.

I have doubted my secretor status since the day I received my results online--several years ago now.  I will definitely retest with the swap test.

And yes, this test will be much more doable for children--and in my case--husband, for whom the saliva test was just too much of a challenge.

Just to be clear the GenoGraphic test is $200 and provides no information on secretor status.

The GenoGraphic project only provides you information on ancestors in far distant past (your haplogroup) other testing services provide you information on ancestry and genetic heritage that is not so far back in the past.

DNA is pretty stable so it should not be a problem. But I would certainly check with DPN before purchasing the kit.

Hi fellow antipodeans, no, I haven't found a lab that will do the secretor testing or DNA testing in NZ or Australia for normal public use.  In fact, I had one Professor from a Science Faculty tell me he was not interested in helping me as he believes the BTD and Dr Ds work to be not scientifically based.  Well, I deleted that email pretty quickly.  If you do manage to find a lab, please let me know.  I'm looking forward to trying the new Swab test but it is not yet available for us down here in NZ and AU.  I will keep you posted.

Sorry Serenity, I forgot to say, yes it is perfectly stable when it's sent from as far away as we are

Hi fellow D'Adamo chums

Would this likewise be stable from the UK? I would certainly like to confirm my status. I've had the saliva test (sent to USA - Nonnie result) and the blood test sample (Dr Tom Greenfield here in UK - result Secretor). So I'd really like a clear determination of my status as it makes a massive difference to my food lists in Swami. Currently I'm following the Secretor version. Mostly because statistically this is the most likely 'correct' option (and I like the food lists). However, if I'm honest in my heart of hearts I reckon I'm a nonnie.

Thanks everyone.

The DNA sample for secretor status would be stable shipped from UK to US.

right4eu website still lists the older saliva sample kits rather than the new DNA test.

Andy - I hear you on that one; my secretor and non-secretor lists have massive differences as well.

C-Sharp - My understanding is that this new test for secretor status is only available in the US, is that correct?

It will soon be available in other countries. I am not sure of the timing of this. But I think the process of making it available through various suppliers is currently in progress.

Canada for instance, has the DNA test in the Secretor Test_SWAMI Pack, but the old saliva kit if purchased separately from SWAMI.

The same ocurred to me. Non secretor result from saliva sample some years ago and Secretor result a few months ago by Dr Greenfield.

Hi everyone, I so agree! I'm looking forward to when this test is available in the UK so I can clear the question of status and, therefore, food lists once and for all.

Suppose I'll just keep checking the EU shop. Might email them too.

All the best everyone, and let's post once we find out for sure our status.
