I have saffron as a diamond spice.  I've never knowingly had saffron, so not sure of the taste.  I'm wondering if saffron tea would be equivalent to the spice and how it tastes?.

It depends on whether the tea is 100% saffron, or if it's saffron added to something else, such as black tea. You'd need to make sure that all ingredients in the product are neutral or better.

Not necessarily. Saffron tea is sometimes made with Carthamus tinctorius. Saffron spice should be Crocus sativus.  Tea can also be made from Crocus sativus, but Carthamus tinctorius is cheaper.

The plants are not the same!

For Carthamus tinctorius you should use ratings related safflower.

Carthamus tinctorius is known as Saffron, "fatherless child" Saffron, Safflower, American Saffron, or hay saffron.

I didn't really examine the tea box, i don't believe they were pure saffron though.  Anyways, so it looks like as long as it doesn't have any avoids in it and it is made from crocus sativus it should be a good substitute (and more economical) for the spice?.

Can anyone give me an idea of what saffron tastes like, i don't know how it tastes and don't want to buy the tea if it's going to taste nasty.

Saffron (spice) is mostly color, very little flavor, but is slightly sweet-ish.  I've mostly had saffron rice, but could mostly taste the rice with a beautiful yellow color.

Saffron (the real stuff) is extremely expensive.  The powdered saffron has very little flavor, like other powdered herbs.  It needs to be the whole very fine threads.  Just a pinch of the threads adds a ton of flavor to a whole recipe.  

It does have a very distinctive taste and aroma which some people might not like.  I use it in Morrocan recipes and a very few Indian recipes, but personally I can't imagine making tea from it.  

I wish I could describe the flavor, but it is so distinctive that I can't think of anything else to compare it to.  I love it, but some people find it very distasteful.  

Any product you buy that has saffron in it, whether rice or tea, would have almost none of the real saffron so you wouldn't get much of the taste of it.

In some parts of Morocco, saffron tea is common. It is made by include a few saffron threads when brewing black or green tea. Usually with lots of sugar.  Cardamon or mint may be added as well.

Pour it from great heights for the proper effect.

Yes, I have been wondering a lot what is the point of the habit to pour tea from great heights, so I decided to ring my Moroccan origin friend and ask her. I just did, and she - a great housewife and cheffin - explained that the purpose is to get the maximum froth in the cup!!!

I have just ordered 40 crocus sativus bulbs so i can grow my own but i didn't think of making tea with it, i should have ordered more!

Saffron is supposed to have an Anti-Depressant effect, as powerful as the prescription stuff. I just ordered five boxes of it to give it a try. It is real saffron with green tea.

Saffron is among the ultimate "sattvic" ingredients/spices in Ayurveda, i.e., of the highest healthful vibration.

And yes, while it is expensive, only the tiniest amount goes such a long way that, in the end, it really isn't. If you can find an herb purveyor where it is sold in bulk, take home a few pinches - it'll cost you next to nothing.
