What would you do? My gut tells me use secretor status until I find out differently. If I had to guess I would go with this for several reasons (though none are of educated experience with secretor status, just rational thought)

My swami if I am a secretor (1) also explorer is very different if I leave that blank (2) teacher.

For example, I have liver neutral and 3 servings red meat - explorer with nothing selected. When I select secretor I get 1 red meat and the choices are much more limited to Goat Lamb and Mutton, no diamond foods, no neutrals.

Both plans give me Turkey ◊ 3x a week

Fish is still 5x a week but 2 moves tuna to super instead of neutral. Squid on 2 is black dot, but on 1 is neutral.

If I am a secretor (1) I get one more egg. And dairy is the same but yogurt is ◊ on 1 and neutral on 2.

On 1 I would get 9 vegetable proteins, and 6 on 2.

Oils go up 1 serving on 1. And carbs go up 1 serving daily.

1 also gives me more daily fruit and beverage/ spices.

Now if I change it to non-secretor.... It puts me back to explorer and the servings are very close to 2 above, only it appears to have more options when non is selected.

It sounds to me like SWAMI is guessing you're a non-secretor, as your "let SWAMI  guess secretor status" gives you similar results to entering non-secretor.

I would leave SWAMI set to "none" since you don't know your secretor status yet. And try to budget in the test as soon as possible.

I would follow SWAMI with the correct results as you know them.  When you have more results (or something changes), I would then go with the print with the most (accurate) information.

...and if you try eating the tenerest, youngest liver and find it makes your body feels "cruddy, undigestible" afterwards, that's a non secretor  "A" reaction to organ meats.

(no matter how chock full of good vitamins liver actually is.)

Im being stingy with money, I was waiting so to not over splurge all at once so I didnt get the test.

I dont like the uncertainty of all of this, and my strong gut saying use secretor because 80% of people are that. I still have not actually measured certain things, like trunk/legs ratio, and took a guess based on what someone else said. I probably need to do actual measurements (with help).

Maybe I should wait to actually do swami. I really dont know if its right, and it puts too much doubt in my mind when my gut says the teacher diet is what feels right. Maybe I need to know for sure, and just work on healthier choices for now, and throw myself all in when I know.

I dont know for sure about my finger prints. I let my 17 year old guess on those. I get so overwhelmed with this part, it made me not believe as much before and I backed off the diet when I got into the geno. Just thinking about it being wrong is overwhelming to me. Backing off helps I guess. I may just not be ready, as I dont have enough information.

It certainly make sense to me to do what is free/inexpensive first before investing $70.  Although I think it is worth spending money on the secretor test.

I presume you have already seen the online videos related to measuring legs/trunk.

I recommend having a friend or relative help you with these measurements/

I had someone look and tell me and trusted that my upper legs were longer than my lower and that my legs are longer than my trunk. I will measure and make sure, or have someone else measure for me.

Im going to leave the finger prints as best guess.

I removed things I guessed at, took out secretor and I took out western. I dont know where my dads side is from and will never know. I was going based on two countries on my moms side, but I think its a pretty good mixture where I come from.

Then I changed it back to let it guess everything and I got

My gut still tells me this one is right, too. Although I do plan to get the secretor test eventually.

I only just got the swami. I have almost all the books. I want to get my B son swami  and secretor status done, but he's 2 and I do not know when I will do it since he cant spit. Im going to take it slow, so not to get too overwhelmed.

It adds up faster than I can make the money to spend

I would get the test which is cheap enough and until you find out do what you think is OK... You are in charge of your own actions.  Even making errors you will do much better just knowing some of what you learned so far.  The test is easy enough and for learning purposes you might read the Eat Right or Live Right books.  I find them much better education than any others that followed.  Building info from the earliest books to the Geno will serve you well until you know exactly who what you are. Get the books in your Library...   Good luck.  This is a many aspects journey you will never regret.

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

Thanks for all the kind thoughts Goldie. The Live Right book arrived yesterday, and I've read many parts of the Eat Right book.

You probably would have been better off waiting on SWAMI and buying yourself a secretor test instead. But you can't undo what's already been done, and that leaves you with a few options:

1) Follow the AB diet- using your best hunch as to whether you're a secretor or a non-secretor. You could also avoid all the foods that are an avoid for either one, but that's overly restrictive and probably not necessary. It's too easy to slip into "afraid to eat anything- then not eating enough beneficials" if you go that route.

2) Follow the Teacher diet from the book.

3) Use SWAMI, making a few more modifications to make it "fit" better. Get somebody to help you measure properly. If Teacher feels intuitively "right" and Explorer feels intuitively "wrong" (including the subsequent food lists SWAMI produces, not just the descriptions in the book) then go with your gut. Setting yourself to "secretor" puts you into Teacher category, so that might be the most logical shift to make in the SWAMI input.

Ruth, I took out western europe, and secretor. I took out the things I dont know for sure, except the finger prints as those were tough and my daughter may be right. I let Swami work its magic and it went teacher again. For me, for AB maybe, it seems a fine line between teacher and explorer.

I did take advise from a post to try the swami first and see if the changes are close to the same or if secretor test is needed. It seems all my settings if I use western europe Im the explorer, but if I remove it Im the teacher. Same thing happens with secretor status, nonnie means explorer.

So it seems to me that test will tell me for sure and now I know. Meanwhile, if Im letting swami do its job, I have to not guess western europe based on only my moms side and one part of that side from there.

To overcome uncertainty in ethnicity, I generally recommend doing the haplogroup genetic test. Unfortunately that is still more money for testing.

If you later decide you want to test for haplogroup. A brother could determine your maternal and paternal haplogroups for the same price as you could determine your maternal haplogroup.

If one is confident that one is a teacher and not an explorer, one can specify teacher in SWAMI instead of having SWAMI calculate GenoType.

I looked at that very cool test briefly and may wind up doing one later down the road.

Can I test my son, as I do not have any siblings from the same mother and father.

By testing your son you will find out where his father's family was from not yours (but that is great info for him anyway).  I am in a similar position.

Ya, his dad was adopted but we know of one family connection on his biomom's side. Too bad my daughter and son dont have the same father, or his would count for her too.
