Hi Guys. I am new here so firstly hello and i hope to learn lots from you all. For years i have suffered from extreme tiredness especially after eating. To the point ive been accused of being depressed as i need to nap after eating. i also am accused of being Lazy. When i eat anything like wheat, potatoes oh you name it before im even finished my meal people can already see im becoming fitigued which generally lasts for anything upto 3 hours, its really making every day hard and i look constantly tired too. btw i do sleep 13 hours a night and i will still struggle the following day if i eat the wrong things which according to these gluten free diets is everything sighhhh So as you can imagine as i only eat when awake and try to eat 2-3 times per day im pretty much tired all the time. I also noticed in the last 10 years or so i get water retention/put on weight after eating potatoes wheat etc, so i have recently tried the gluten free diet and tbf it workled really well, i can stuff myself silly and not feel tired in the slightest.Anyway so I saw a post on facebook today re this new book so ive spent the last 7 hour researching it as i feel that finally i feel im reading a book about myself. Its so me. Everything right down to the determined personalities attributes. So is their any initial advice anyone can give me in the 1st instance? I have a feeling i now know what the prob is/ has always been so fingers crossed i can finally live a normal life!

Have you given the Blood  Type Diet a try? Lots of gluten-free foods are NOT appropriate for type Os, especially corn and potatoes.

You probably won't feel tired after eating if you stick to meat (or poultry, eggs, or fish) and veggies, with only small amounts of appropriate grains, nuts, and fruits.

Hi Ruthie thank you for your reply, Well no not yet i never knew anything about blood type and diets until this morning but it all sounds right, i never realised i shouldnt be eating dairy, or tea, coffe, alcohol. does anyone know why not alcohol? cutting out alcahol seems mean to me if your taking my potatoes and bread away lol

Red wine is fine for O's! Beer is a specific problem, my guess is because of what the beer is fermented from. I'm not sure the reasoning for not drinking hard liquor.

In addition to everything above - have you had your thyroid AND parathyoid checked?  Feeling that exhausted can be a symptom of a parathyroid adenoma - a nonmalignant tumor on one of the parathyroid glands.  There's a special blood test (blood has to be refrigerated immediately) to test for it....Back in the mid 90s I had one and had to have surgery to have it removed.  
Definitely get rid of the wheat, corn, white potatoes, etc.

no i havent tried that, but when i do cut out wheat i do feel alot better so im hoping i just need to change my diet abit

Thank you all i need the help. Lola ive been like this for possibly 15 years. Im a horsey country girl, have 3 children and a business to run one with horses the other human hair. So id say im fairly active still. 3 years ago before i learnt to drive between taking children to school and checking on my horses i was walking 15-20 miles per day pushing a pushchair all of it. I drive now and so admittedly am less active by a long way but i do have a gym and swimming pool at home but using the gym really tires me out i could sleep after. whereas other people i know say they feel great after.

I was where you are back in 2007.  Then my ND recommended the BTD and I felt so much better within the first week.  Not only did my fatigue go away, I felt stronger and all of my joint pain disappeared!  Figuring out what to eat for breakfast was a challenge at first until I developed my lo-carb breakfast and got used to eating supper for breakfast.


My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant.  Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index.  DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.

ahh square peg thats another issue joint pain, i came of the depo vera as i wondered if that was causing my joints/bones to ache. thank you all i will research more in the AM x

Hello and welcome.

Avoiding wheat, breads and pasta and potatoes should help with the fatigue and joint pain.  

Having protein (beef, eggs) for breakfast will keep you more alert and less hungry later.

O's do best with exercise!

Smaller, more frequent beef meals (beef or buffalo patties) might do well for you also.

Thank you so much, another quick question. Just having a look on a site which mentions foods and drinks. (i have ordered Dr Damos type o cook book too) it says in one hand no dairy for type O, (ive read else where no tea, coffee etc.) Yet it says in this one "see link" No dairy, tea is allowed but not black tea??? confusing. Any idea guys?

I'm not sure who this Dr Lam is, but that chart is not completely accurate. It's based on Dr D's food list, but he doesn't have it quite right. It's better to look up foods in the typebase on this website.

You can also find that link under "online support" at the top of this page (and every page in this website.) To use the typebase, click on each food and it loads a new page with information about the food and its rating for all 4 blood types.

To answer your specific question about tea, green tea is beneficial while black tea and coffee are avoids. Yerba mate is unrated for BTD, so it's "neutral for all" and many people find it a good substitute for coffee. I like it with cocoa powder and molasses added. I often have that first thing in the morning, like I used to drink coffee. I can't drink green tea on an empty stomach because it makes me nauseated- many people find that to be the case. So I have the "mocha mate" first and then the green tea with or after breakfast.

Since you're dealing with fatigue, I'd advise you not to cut your caffeine consumption too rapidly. In the long term, getting off coffee will help you be more energized, but you may want to do things more gradually if you're currently drinking a lot of coffee.

Since you are an O, you should stay off the starches & keep eating the meat & veggies.

A month before my 60th birthday, I discovered rooibos tea, a red tea. It has a good flavor but without caffeine which bothers me. It is very strong, so use little if you use loose leaves - or a bag can make several cups.

I have suffered from the same thing also. The diet is very helpful. Got me off wheat....!!(important!)
I thought it was thyroid (under active) but that hasn't really showed up. I am working on building adrenal strength by taking activated B's and ashwaganda, ginseng, meat, etc. My NP said to work on the adrenals first, then see where the thyroid is.I have methylation issues so have looked into MTHFR issues, and am now slowly addressing some of those matters....but that doesn't mean that that is your issue....just saying...

T3 and T4 are thyroid hormones.  The extreme tiredness as I said before could also be from a parathyoid adenoma - something totally different.  The parathyroids control the calcium in your system.  If you have a parathyroid tumor, usually benign, it pulls the calcium from your bones and makes you feel like it's a huge effort to even put one foot in front of the the other.
