My 18 yr old daughter has recently been suffering from reasonably severe dermatitis on her hands.  We suspect food intolerances to some degree, our naturopath did muscle testing on her and foods like strawberries, mandarins and olives came up as well as some grasses and dog and cat dander (we own 2 dogs and currently have 7 cats in the house).

She has not been eating according to her blood type.  I am seriously considering buying a Swami Xpress for her (pretty sure she is a Teacher but would like it to be as custom as possible).

There is blistering, swelling, itchiness and pain which is causing a fair amount of distress for her.

Could anyone suggest suitable supplements for her?  Any NAP ones that will help?  She is already taking a couple of things that the naturopath suggested but I would appreciate any extra advice.

We are taking her off gluten as of today in case it is a gluten allergy.  She is avoiding strawberries, citrus and olives as well.

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

I forgot to mention that she probably has a much milder case on her lower legs too, they are itchy and spotty.

Probably is a Teacher with leaky gut causing an auto immune response.  Get that SWAMI.  Until then it might be helpful for you to have her follow the Teacher's guidelines.  Much hope and good to come!

Dr. D./NAP has a whole helpful list of protocols.  This will answer your needs.  Perhaps C-Sharp or another will soon post a link for it.  I don't know how.

I wish both you and your daughter all the best and hope that she will be able to make the changes necessary to restore her health.

However, I can't help but wonder:  If your daughter won't follow the basic BTD for her blood type, why are you considering spending the money for the additional testing required for a Swami?  Did you get a commitment from her that she would indeed follow the Swami diet faithfully?

I know way too many people (like almost everyone I know) who choose to suffer from horrendous problems rather than change the way they eat.  Most of these people are looking for supplements or prescriptions to "solve" a problem that can most effectively be "resolved" by changing their diet.  And that includes a very high percentage of people in medical and medically related professions!

The one thing I know for certain is that you cannot make the choice for anyone else (unless it's your own wee little baby).  I sincerely wish this were not true because there are people I care very deeply about who need this way of eating and living and I would most definitely choose it for them if I had the power to do so.

Hi Caz,
So sorry for your daughters dermatitis.
I don't know if this will help , but...
My Mom is an A, and I think a nonnie as well. She suffers from itchy, peeling and sometimes painful rashes on her hands. We know she has citrus and cow dairy allergies but there are probably more food intolerances. I have tried to get her to follow ER4YT and she does attempt but she still eats pork sometimes and food with gluten.
Once I told her how much better I felt without gluten, she tried also. Her skin began to clear up   but her doctor also prescribed a special cream. She is doing fine now.

Thank you for your replies.

My daughter has not followed BTD for a couple of reasons.  One is that she is a teenager and unless she has health concerns is not that worried about what she eats.  Second reason is more my fault in that I struggle badly to cope with fatigue and brain fog and to follow my BTD - I am the one that cooks etc.

Having said that we still eat fairly healthy.,   This is just the motivation she needs to start taking responsibility for her own food choices.  She is very uncomfortable at present and it doesn't look pretty either.  If she is willing to work at it then I am too.

For the protocols - Should she follow say the Anti Inflammatory one and the Skin Support one?

Cajun - your mum's story is very encouraging and we definitely plan to stay away from gluten for long enough to see if this is the cause.

I like the idea of getting her a SWAMI because it is more personalized and usually gives a broader range of foods.

Thanks.

I know how difficult it can be with teenagers.  It was a lot simpler when they were younger and did most of what you suggested.
I am Dr D'Adamo's distributor for Australia and N.Z. and also one of his Master Practitioners.  I would be happy to help you select suitable supplements for your daughter as this could be the best way at present to help improve her skin.  As far as foods are concerned, even if she eliminated one food such as dairy or wheat, it could make a huge difference.  We will be at the Mind Body Spirit Festival in Sydney too at the end of October so it could be a good chance for you to pay us a visit.  Here is our website http://www.right4yourtypeau.com

I would give her some information about BTD and let her do her own research. You can't "make her" eat anything you don't want her to eat, and you especially can't keep her from eating whatever she wants when she's away from home. Most teenagers spend a lot of time at friends' homes, at social events, at school, etc, where Mom isn't there to control what she eats.

If she decides for herself that she wants to follow BTD to help her itchy skin, then she'll be internally motivated. It's vastly different to say "no thanks" to  a slice of pizza when YOU want to be healthy rather than "because my Mom won't let me eat it."

I'd offer her both the book and the website and let her reach whichever one she prefers.

While this happens in many cases, it is definitely NOT appropriate to state that it will do so in all cases.  My DDs food lists are pretty restrictive compared to either of the book diets, but she is getting better rather than continuing to get worse on either of the book diets, so SWAMI is definitely better for her.

Also remember that SWAMI is a tool, and that tool can be used in different ways. Even if your daughter is not willing to follow it 100%, here's how it can be useful:

1) She can avoid or minimize the "absolute avoids" but eat "black dot" foods freely, treating them all as neutrals from the beginning.

2) She can emphasize her beneficial and diamond foods when she's at home, to somewhat compensate for the "avoids" she eats away from home. She can also eat extra-compliantly for a week or two at a time when she's sick, then resume a less strict diet when she feels better. Being sick often coincides with "staying home from social events because I'm tired" anyway.

3) She gets her "genoharmonic combinations" that she can aim to include as frequently as possible.

Between the diamonds and the GH combos, she'll know which foods are extra-healing for her. She can add those in even if she doesn't eliminate all of her avoids.

Thanks Ruthie and ABJoe - I think  I will order the Swami - once that is done then I think I will contact Kiwi for some suggestions as to supplements for her.

It is now on her arms as well.  I do feel sorry for her because she is following all my suggestions with very little result so far.  I hope the Swami will help

I just ordered the Swami Xpress, Genotype testing kit and some Deflect A for her - will work out other supplements once we have the Swami.

I have most of the D'Adamo books - which one should I encourage my daughter to read?  She is not big on reading but she has 2 weeks holidays starting next week and I'm hoping to at least get her to read something!

I would encourage her to read either Live Right or Eat Right. Live Right has more information, including the secretor information, while Eat Right is a more generalized introduction. Since you already know she's a nonnie, Live Right might be the smarter choice.

give her a bath with epsom salts and baking soda in it to treat it topically.

Calendula is very soothing as well.

Thanks Ruthie, I will pull out the Live Right and see if I can convince her to read some.

Andrea - we have found a cream that seems to be helping dry out the pustules - it has lavender, liquorice, chamomile and aloe among other things in it.  She is alternating it with QV cream for moisture.  We have the Jurlique Calendula cream which she uses for her face at night - will suggest she tries this - maybe at bedtime with her cotton gloves.

The hands seem to be very slowly improving - the arms may be getting worse but I think it has a cycle it needs to go through before healing.

We are thinking that at least the external trigger may be grasses - the internal obviously could be lots of things that are increasing the inflammation.  We have received the Swami but won't really have much time to work on it until Monday as the next few days are crazy for us with family visiting and birthdays etc happening.

Thanks for everyone's input so far - much appreciated.

Epsom salts and baking soda is inexpensive-- and effective. They change the PH on the skin so if she feels prickly like the rash is starting she can bath in it and stop the onset.

Thanks Andrea - could you give me an idea of how much of each she should use?  A cup maybe?  She has used bicarb soda but just on her hands in a little hand bath and it did help.

We have finally completed enough of our daughter's Swami to get a result - she is 48% Teacher

Now to familiarise ourselves with the food lists etc   Not too many surprises there except for the fact that strawberries are listed as a superfood - they are her most favourite thing of all foods but we are pretty sure she does react to them.  I hope in time she can eat them more freely because that would make her extremely happy.
