Hi All!  This is my first time posting.  I'd love some help coming up with some crockpot recipes for a Type A family.  My husband and I are dairy intolerant and bean intolerant as well.  Anyone have anything to share?

I'm wondering about type A bean intolerant people. I wonder if you've had trouble in the past due to eating the wrong beans for your type and/or eating beans that weren't properly prepared. You may be able to re-introduce beans into both your diets  after you've done some healing.

In the meantime, I guess the crock pot meals would need to be mainly veggies with some poultry added.  I've found that rice often "falls apart" in the crock pot, and it's best to cook the rice separately and serve it alongside the "crock pot stew." Quinoa holds up pretty well in a crock pot, though, if you want a true "one dish dinner."

I'd suggest putting in a combination of compliant veggies at the bottom of the crock pot, then some cooked quinoa (or raw, making sure you add enough water to cook it PLUS extra water for the broth) then some skinless chicken or turkey pieces on top. Bones add flavor and nutrition when cooked for a long time, but the skin just makes it fatty. Or you can use skinless boneless cuts of poultry. Sprinkle some spices on top, then add enough liquid (water and/or broth) to cover all ingredients and let it simmer on "high" all day while you work. If you prepare it the night before, either put the whole thing in the fridge overnight, or keep the ingredients cut and ready to go, but assemble and add liquid in the morning.

Make sure the crock pot is plugged in. It's very frustrating to come home after a long day to raw, cold, spoiled ingredients instead of a hot dinner.

Here's two for breakfast:

Breakfast Pumpkin Pudding

Slow Cooker, High, 4-4 1/2 hours

  • Spray crockpot with oil to coat.
      Whip 5 eggs w/1 28 oz. can pumpkin, 12 oz. compliant nut/seed milk w/2 T. compliant flour, 1/2 c. maple syrup, 2 t. lemon zest, 1 t. vanilla, 1 t. cinnamon, 1/2 t. cloves and/or ginger, and a bit of salt to taste.

  • Stir in 1/2 c. currants or other chopped, dried fruit and pour into slow cooker.


One more for breakfast:

Crock Pot Hot Cereal

Don't Stir!

  • Mix and place 2 sliced apples (or compliant soft fruit such as peaches, pears, or nectarines), 1/4 c. sweetner, 1 t. cinnamon, and salt to taste in bottom of pot.

  • Pour in 2 c. grain (oatmeal, millet, etc.), 2 c. nut/seed milk, and 2 c. water.

  • Cook overnight on Low for 8-9 hours.

I would just add to this that if (likely) your gut is out of balance, beans may not digest properly. That was the case with me before BTD. Now, beans give me no trouble at all.

Actually, re-reading this, Ruth is pointing this out.
