Hi...I was wondering what others have done besides BTD for their Cholesterol. My Total is 5.32 which in Canada is considered Hight Risk.

Thanks

Jayne, are you taking medications for it? What caused it to be elevated? How's your health otherwise?

We are both A+ non secretors, so what works well for us may or may not work for you. We stay well over 90% ER diet compliant.

We used to take salmon oil (to avoid the avoid fish in general fish oil) and Co-Q10 and it helped our cholesterol levels somewhat but both of us were still too high.

THEN we changed to Nutrigold brand krill oil and to Ubiquinol (enhanced, most absorbable form of CoQ 10).  My cholesterol level and triglycerides are absolutely fine now.  My husband's cholesterol was still high so he added red yeast rice (capsules) which is a natural, non prescription form of lovastatin.  You have to be careful of the brand of red yeast rice. AND don't take it on your own.  We work with a trained local naturopath.  We also get blood work done twice a year from our regular MD.

We also take other supplements but I feel those mentioned above are the ones that have made the difference in our blood work results.

Almost 6 years on ER BTD, went from sick and dying to healthier And 30 pounds slimmer.

Dec 30 2013: Just started Swami Xpress - after fine tuning the information, it shows 48% Explorer and gave me a hybridized Explorer/BTD list. A new adventure for this old lady!

Jayne, what's the breakdown of HDL, LDL, triglycerides?

LDL particle size is also considered.

My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant.  Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index.  DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.

The best answer is to follow the best diet you can - SWAMIXpress is best, but Live Right 4 Your Type will help your body clean out excess cholesterol, etc...

You could look at the Cardiovascular Support Protocol here:

I agree with Joe, follow the plan, swami is best.

I did not need to lower my cholesterol after following the BTD for  more than ten years, but I stopped wanting eggs for breakfast and started eating steel cut oats, LDLs went from 103 to 65, HDLs went from 85 to 100.

I like this page in the new catalogue..It serves to sort things out fast, offering all the choices... look at the picture page 13   but also read all the others. good stuff there.

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

To confuse everything, I heard an interview by a cholesterol expert who said they have found signs of plaques in mummies of all age groups & we all know there were no 'fake foods' back then. I know there are some things we can't control, but that is disconcerting news. One would think that at least children would not have signs of cardiac problems. Who knows?  Maybe they ate wrong for their types!!
The better news is that this dr. knows a lot about various types of cholesterol fractions that are not commonly tested for, so he can help his patients better. Remember when they didn't even know about LDL & HDL?  I'm glad we do now!
But there is even more to learn.........
