Hi; maybe some of our nurses on the boards can answer this.

This is the first time my mother has even remotely peed out something that smells "just like nursing home smell." is the sickly sweet odor an indication of terminal illness, or is it a situation where cell autophage is impaired ("old man smell" that Trehalose would take care of?)

At any rate - it's happening in my home now.

Too much sugar in the urine can indicate high blood sugar/ diabetes.

Many elderly people suffer from bladder infections which also cause delusions and hallucinations,  their urine is usually very concentrated because they don't drink enough which in turn can contribute to the bladder infection.

Cranberry supplements or juice may help deodorise the urine & clear up an infection.

Jeanb, good point.  I don't know how old your Mom is Seraffa but when my mother was in Assisted Living with Alzheimers and in Depends, she got UTIs and it contributes significantly to confusion.  I had even had a discussion with her physician about whether it made sense to keep her on a maintenance dose of sulphur drugs to see if it would help both problems.
