Only types B or AB can be a Nomad

You could be a Hunter, Gatherer or Explorer.

Welcome dboc!

As an O, you can either be a Hunter, Gatherer, or Explorer. But since you're getting a SWAMI, the label won't really matter anyway. Your personalized diet is going to be different from any of the diets listed in the book.

dboc, welcome!    You are doing something great for yourself and it's quite an amazing journey - going on 14 years for myself!  Can't wait to see if you're a hunter, gatherer or explorer!  And your secretor status is very important.  It will give you some important information about yourself.

Welcome!  Dr. D's practice is in CT!

How are you doing on the Type O diet, so far?  Did you notice any changes yet in how you feel?

My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant.  Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index.  DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.

use only the advanced calculator in the back of your GTD book when knowing your blood type

make sure you let swami compute your genotype for you.....

I know Dr. D's local, but I can't really afford to go there for consults as they are pricey and I don't have health "issues" to really warrant them.  I've been intrigued by Dr. D's methods, so I wanted to give it a go.  I knew I was intolerant to milk, but some of the avoids like cucumber and avocado and pork are a bit harder to swallow.

Today is Day 17 and I'm doing ok.  Coffee was hard, yet easy to give up, b/c I don't mind not feeling that acid, empty feeling after I finish a mug o' coffee.  Switched to green tea, which is tasty, but it's not the same sensory feeling I get from coffee brewing.  i think i need to find another green-ish tea that will give me that same sensory feeling.  Any suggestions?  Something nutty?  I'm also not big on breakfast (unless it involves a pork product), so I'm still struggling with that a little.  Meaning, I usually don't eat breakfast at all, but am starving by 11am, which forces me eat my lunch at that time, and I'm hungry again by 2pm.  So, I've begun to bring two meals.

And I miss my steamed pork dumplings.  It's pretty much the only gluten thing I would eat anyhow, but because i can't have them, I want them more.  The craving is not as dire as it was on Day 5, but I still crave them emotionally.  I have a recipe to try homemade, GF lamb & shrimp dumplings.  I'm hoping that will do the trick.  Also, I've had a craving for pizza, too, again I will attempt my own GF dough and fill that demand, too.  I feel good knowing that I'm not putting garbage into my body, but it's hard to think that when the craving strikes!

I never was one to eat processed foods, but it's kind of amazing how much of the GF products available are still not compliant for Os.  I've only found one GF pasta at the store that doesn't have potato or corn.  So, feeling wise, I feel pretty much the same, maybe slightly less bloated (I ate more dumplings than any normal person should).  I've lost about 5 lbs (probably mostly water weight) in the last few weeks, but I don't wake up and think, "OMG, I feel AMAZING!"

Anyway, there's loads of info here on this forum.  I'll likely die before I get through ALL of it, geez!  I'll be doing my genotyping tonight (hopefully) and send off the secretor when I'm supposed to and I'll be on my way to a healthier new me.  I'm so curious to see what's in store for me...

you all are a wealth of info.  thanks for the support!

If SWAMI's on its way, then you don't NEED the GTD book. The book does have a lot of nice background info and better explains some of the underlying concepts that were used in the SWAMI programming. If you have time, get it out of the library and read it through, but don't worry about trying to figure out your genotype (or worry if SWAMI gives you a different label than the book does) nor should you worry at all about any of the  food lists in the book.

I knew I was intolerant to milk, but some of the avoids like cucumber and avocado and pork are a bit harder to swallow.

I felt the same way initially, but after removing all of the avoids for about 3 months, then adding 1 food at time, I could tell little symptoms that each avoid evoked.  I used to love avocado, but now know that whenever I eat it, by throat burns some after...  Before BTD, I couldn't tell because there were so many simultaneous symptoms - some of which were totally eclipsed by others, that I couldn't tell what was causing what...

Dboc, I am new to BTD, also type O.

I,too, was surprised at how many gluten free products have ingredients I cannot and should not eat. Before BTD, I had stopped eating gluten and found a delicious quinoa pasta, which I later realized also has corn in it. Now I avoid it.
There may be a Trader Joe's near you in CT.  They have a decent brown rice pasta.

BTW, my swami has avocado as a beneficial.  I was sure happily surprised by that!

there are several Trader Joe's to choose from near me, but i rarely go there b/c i cannot keep myself from buying their frozen DUMPLINGS, which are SOOOOOOO bad for me!  however, if i find the courage to do so, i will check out their brown rice pasta.  i was able to find a brand, Hodgson Mills, that has a compliant penne pasta and elbow mac and prob spaghetti (though i haven't craved that) at my local grocer.  and i made a delicious veggie lasagna with that Tinkyada pasta.  even though they are GF, i feel as if i need to limit intake on carb items anyway.  and i'm not certain, waiting on results, but i think i'm a nonnie, too, so i've got my fingers crossed for avocado!

it's day 25 for me, and i've been doing really well in terms of compliance, except for a few deliberate "slip" ups, meaning i made a few bad choices to see how i'd do.  i've been trying to do this 100% b/c i couldn't imagine doing a little at a time.  that was already how i had been eating.  i've never had a love of pasta and breads as so many other do, and my only downfall were pork dumplings, my Achilles heel, if you will, so i had to give this a solid all-or-nothing attempt.

i will say that the few times that i reintroduced gluten, i felt sluggish and sleepy and, of course, the usual bloat after eating the offensive item.  makes me not want to eat like that anymore.

the good and the bad is that i'm cooking a LOT, which is kind of exhausting because i can't seem to make simple meals, but it makes me happy knowing that i am eating well on my terms and not someone else's.  also, i'm a bit of a foodie, so i instantly want to adapt new recipes i find to my new way of eating.  it's going to be an interesting, yet fun journey.

Yeah, Hunters do share a lot of traits with Warriors and Nomads- similar builds, for instance. A tall, thin person is likely to be a Warrior if A, Nomad if B, or Hunter if O, and an AB with that build could be a Nomad or a Warrior. In a way, this simplifies things. If you were a close tie between Hunter and Explorer, you really wouldn't know which diet would work best for you. But you're clearly not a Warrior or Nomad since you're an O.

I personally never did any of those strength testing things, nor did I even look at the basic or intermediate calculators. I just jumped to the "Advanced calculator" at the back of the book. SWAMI does consider them, however, and it's not uncommon for SWAMI to label somebody with a different genotype than they calculated via the book. Not that it matters- once you have SWAMI, the food lists are personalized and it doesn't matter which genotype it started with.
