I am needing to lose weight and am looking to help boost my metabolism. I have read that bladderwrack can help w. increasing metabolism. Anyone know if Type A's can use bladderwrack and/or speak to its effectiveness?
Vivian, do you have a copy of the Genotype Book? If so, read the Explorer section, especially pages 154 - 156. It talks about what to do in order to support your body's detoxifying systems, improve your metabolic rate, build blood, befriend your liver. It also gives a list of the top foods to avoid because of how they can inhibit your metabolism and cause weight gain, interfere with proper detoxification, etc.
What level of compliance are you working on? Are you eating any black dot foods at this point? Toxins? How much of your diet is made up of Superfoods and Diamonds?

Have attempted to follow the BTD/GTD in the past w/out success. I suppose I was not ready. However, I have had a significant change in lifestyle and have gone Vegan. I have happily sustained it for 3 1/2 weeks & been extraordinarally compliant with it. I am really liking it. But, I have been eating all kinds of foods including avoids, just as long as they are vegan. I do not want to eat meat or dairy anymore. Of this I am certain.
So, my plan was to focus on transitioning to veganism first and then tweaking further w. the SwamiXpress list. I am feeling very good so far and am transitioning to veganism better than I thought I would & am learning new recipies, experimenting w/ new foods, etc. So, today, I am starting the next step of my plan.
I am feeling that I can take on beginning to tweak my vegan choices, little by little, to focus more on the SwamiXpress superfoods, beneficials, neutrals & keep away from the avoids as much as possible. I think I need to do this because even though I have gone vegan, I have not been losing much weight. The first few days I lost about 1 pound per day w/out exercise, but then it stopped & on other days of have gained some back. With this up & down, in total, I have lost only two pounds in 3 1/2 weeks.
So I was looking to see what else I could include in my regimen to increase my metabolism. I have the SwamiXpress food list, but have not had much practical experience in implementing it. I am attempting to comply w/ it now. I had heard about the Bladderwrack and wanted to see if that would help. I need help to lose this weight.

Not all As can thrive on a vegan diet. As need the least amount of animal products of all the blood types, but some As really do need to have some fish, eggs, poultry, and/or fermented dairy each week.
You may want to keep an open mind about veganism if you aren't able to achieve good health on a vegan version of your SWAMI after a few weeks.

Use the veganism for short-term detox, but eventually add some animal protein, maybe fish to start.

Would increasing consuming tempeh or other plant protein work? I just bought some tempeh today and tried it for the first time. It is really good and it is a neutral for me.
The nutrition label says it has 22 g of protein per 4 oz. .

It's neutral for you, which means that it's a food. Don't expect great healing from neutral foods, as you might (or might not) notice from beneficials and diamonds.
Follow the portion size recommendations in your SWAMI. Some people lose weight by increasing protein, while other do better lowering fat or increasing fiber- we're all unique individuals, which is why we have SWAMI.
If you've been eating less protein than SWAMI recommends for you, then increasing plant protein will probably help boost your metabolism. If you're eating more protein than recommended, it probably won't help.
I say "probably" because even SWAMI isn't perfect. As complex as the computer program is, the human body is far more complex. Many people follow the SWAMI food lists but feel the need to tweak the portions. Some people find that they don't tolerate every "beneficial" food. Start with the recommendations and adjust only if needed.

Yes, Ruthiegirl. I am eating less protein that my Swami recommends because I am not consuming dairy or meats. So I will try to work in a little more plant protein and see how I respond to it. I am keeping a very detailed food diary to help me.
I carry my Swami report w/ me everywhere in my purse. And when I go shopping, I take it out to buy the right things. I used to be embarassed to do this before, but not anymore. I need to keep referring to it because there are so many foods, I don't have them memorized yet. And...there are alot of new foods that I have never tasted nor heard of. I am experimenting w/ those too. I just discovered, tempeh, maitaki mushrooms, and tomatillo.
One thing I can say is that I feel happier. When I ate "regular" food I loved the flavor, texture, etc. But I felt unhappy inside because I knew it was not healthy for me and would keep me overweight. But I kept on anyway. Now when I eat, I know I am nurishing my body in an extraordinary way. I don't feel "afraid" of food anymore. I can eat freely following my Swami w/out worry or fear. Perhaps it's the nutrition or the healing of the foods or just the fact that I know I am doing something good for my body, but I feel an overall increased sense of happiness. It's the only way I can explain it.

YAY! These are actually major causes for celebration and congratulations!
