Hello, I am new to this diet. I am confused about one thing. I am a type O blood type. Is Ezeikel Bread on the beneficial/neutral/avoid list? I am confused because some sources state it is beneficial and neutral, but the bread contains sprouted wheat, lentils, and barley (which are all on the avoid list). Please clarify if I could eat this bread. Thank you. |

The product was different when the book Eat Right 4 Your Type came out; at that time, the product was appropriate for Os. Since that time, the company changed the formula and the product is no longer appropriate for Os. I'm pretty sure the sprouted wheat specifically is OK, as the sprouting process destroys the wheat germ lectins, but the lentils and barley are still a problem. The primary problem, however, is the addition of gluten from non-sprouted wheat.
Dr Ds' newer books (including the SWAMI software) list individual foods, not brand name products. |

Thanks Ruthiegirl, but, if the lentils and barley (and wheat) are sprouted, doesn't that "inactivate" the lectins making the Ezeikel bread ok? I read that somewhere. |

I think it's only wheat that has the problematic lectins concentrated in the seed coat. Other grains and beans have lectins throughout the body of the plant, so sprouting doesn't get rid of all the lectins.
And when I say "lectins" here, I mean "problematic lectins." There are other foods that contain lectins that are not harmful for Os, though they may harm other blood types. Black beans are a good example- I can eat them but my Type B son should not. |

Ok, thank you very much for the information. So, what type of bread can I eat then? Thanks. |

The main problem with the Ezikiel is added wheat gluten. You might find another product that is 100% sprouted. Not all sprouted wheat breads are 100% sprouted. |

Food for Life makes a number of rice and rice/millet breads which are OK. They are generally in the freezer section of WFs or your local health food store. Read the labels carefully though. The ones I like the best are the Bhutanese Red Rice bread and the Black China Rice bread. You need to toast them to taste good but they hold up pretty well for a gluten free bread and are good for sandwiches. There may be some tiny amounts of avoids but generally a better choice than most unless you want to bake something yourself. If you do, look in the recipe center and look up flax bread. |
