I have been following the ER4YT since September 2012 and have lost a total of one, count them, one pound!!!! I have gone strict whole food vegetarian. I buy all my food fresh and eat 95% raw. I do not eat any fast or convenience foods and I also eat zero junk. As much organic as I can buy.
Here is my issue. If I am an A- and am following a very strict Type A diet, why am I still so fat? I am not obese but a good 40lbs more than I should be.
I walk everywhere. I have a job that involves bending, stretching and climbing. I drink huge amounts of water. I take my vitamins and probiotics. I am getting very very discouraged. Today I had a beef sausage and it was good, but now I feel kind of nausiated.
What can I do that will help? What am I doing wrong? I AM following it to a tee and am getting rather weary of the zero results.
Yes, I feel better, my breathe is better and my body seems happier, but I am still to heavy.
I do not have a CC to order a secretion test. I looked at the Geno type diet but have no one to help mesure me so I took it back to the library. I am almost ready to try slimfast,,, lord help me.......

sorry you feel this way
I would try harder if I were you

It is possible that you are consuming too many carbs (certain grains, certain fruits). High carbs can turn your fuel into fat and mess with your blood sugar.
Jackster, I know how you feel. Being an A myself it's very difficult to loose weight. My personal experience is that eating grains (no matter how compliant) will hinder your weightloss. If you really want the weight to come off, take the grains to a minimum.
Furthermore, I don't particularly see the need to eat everything raw. You can cook some of your veggies (or stirfry) and give your body not so much work on digesting it. What also works is how much you eat during the day, big breakfast, smaller lunch and the least calories at dinner.
Also no need to go completely vegetarian, you can have some chicken or turkey every now and then. I think you will need more protein. Can you give an example on what your day looks like meals wise? Also do you eat a lot of fruit?
Yes, I feel better, my breathe is better and my body seems happier, but I am still to heavy.
Any suggestions?
It seems to be working. You feel better and so on.
There are several possibilities for why you have not lost weight, yet. They range from the body 'fixing some things before it fixes others' to more medical things like thyroid. ated Keep at it a bit longer. Follow the diet but don't be so harsh on yourself that you can't follow it! Suggestions above including the stir-fry, carbs, some fish and so on all have merit.
I'm sorry for your disappointment in the A diet. Many people have achieved success so perhaps we could help you troubleshoot.
Would you mind sharing what you've been eating? It's possible you're not eating enough vegetables and overeating starchy carbs or not measuring portions properly or overdoing portions of one food group.
How about giving us a few days meals.

I would croak if I ate a vegetarian diet, and I am not kidding!!! I lost forty pounds with hardly any trouble at all. I eat fish, turkey and lamb. Lots of veggies and sweet potatoes. Snack on peanut and almond butters and several kinds of fruits. And all of this is on my diet!!

Thank you all for your responses. To start with what I eat,, well, it is the same everday so here goes.
Breakfast- Slow cooked oatmeal with organic palm brown sugar and unsweetened soy milk. Ginseng green tea with either stevia or royal jelly honey.
Snack- An apple with peanut butter. or an large handful of seeds.
Lunch- A huge salad of spinach, carrots, celery, mushrooms, cucumber, walnuts, raisins and a home made dressing of silken tofu, garlic, mustard powder and roaly jelly honey. Water or coffee, black.
For dinner is the kicker. Every night is juice. I use my juicer to make it. Grapefruit (3), carrots (3), beets (2 small), blueberries (1 cup) and 1/2 a large pineapple. I drink this over the evening. In 2 glasses I add 4 ounces of white wine with the fruit mix.
Evening snack is always pumpkin seeds. Roasted and salted because I am addicted to them.
Some days, maybe 2 times a week I will have a beer with my husband.
Okay, past that, I am 51 years old, white and have a long long history of dieting. I did Atkins and gained 8 pounds. I gained weight in the delivery room,,,, twice! The only diet that ever really worked for me was starvation. I quit smoking 5 years ago and all hell broke loose. I gained the 40 pounds in under 9 months. I had a lot of loss during this time, my Mother, my Father in law, my brother, sister in law, 2 nephews and a grand daughter. The weight came on hard and heavy.
Now I am trying to get it off, and I really do feel better but it is not budging. I am eating very very pure foods and today I ate a beef sausage. I feel bad but I also feel it was myself being rebelious against myself??? if that made sense?
My husband is an type O, so I make him meat meals all the time and the organic, grass fed and finished sausage was just sitting there so alone,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,okay, I gave in to temtation,,, plus I dipped it in ketchup, argh!!!!
Honestly, I think I am following the diet. I eat zero foods with moms and dads (minus today) and I eat limited sugars. I am a compulsive label reader and if it contains MSG, aspertame or words I don't know, I don't have it in the house.
I am a virgo type A,,, if you have ever met one like me you will understand when we get on something, it becomes our religion. Other than todays beef sausage, there has not even been a taste of the meat soup I make for my husband.
I have read and reread that book and printed off the sheets to shop with.
CC means no credit card. I just don't want one. I would like to test for non secretor but can not.
I will try anything you all offer out to me. Every thing is welcome.
I would say not enough protein. In all of the SWAMI reports that I have seen, the area that mentions sweeteners of any kind, says 0 - 1 tsp. daily as needed. You are consuming more than that on a daily basis. My A friend put on a lot of weight from juicing carrot and beets, too much sugar in the system she felt. Now she juices cucumbers, celery, romaine etc with 1/4 of small beet and one carrot.

eating the same thing everyday is a bad idea.
maybe not enough protein.
that juice and wine mixture for dinner is bad timing. spiking your blood sugar and late in the day. double whammie.
sounds like you have some emotional issues that may be causing you to hold onto the weight as well.
also, if you are too toxic, body will hold the toxins in the fat.
you don't have to be a vegan as an A.
also, make sure you are getting B12/B complex. look for a whole foods one. magnesium might also be something to search on this site. 80-90% are deficient and anxiety/stress often accompanies deficiency. stress burns all of these up quickly.
if you have a gluten issue, the oatmeal can possibly be sabatoging you. look at quinoa instead.
just observations. you have to find what works for you. that you were so drawn to that meat makes me think protein and B12 and also to watch your adrenals. that religious type thing, you have to watch it or you can burn out.
best to you. no reason to "quit" - it's just about tweaking habits into ones that finally work for you. it's not a diet, it's a life long change of patterns. do your best to relax and enjoy the process.
or quit. it's ALWAYS your choice.
you might look into Bach Flower Remedies. google them, they sell them at health food stores. could take the edge off.
just my 5 cents.

Oh my that night time juice is filled with sugar. You are having sugar at every meal. Why not do a veggie shake instead of a fruit one.
And where is the protein at night?

The only time I bother with juicing or anything in that category, such as putting the veggies in my blender and drinking the whole thing without straining, is in the summer as a pick-up after working in my yard and sweating during the summer. Otherwise I DO NOT juice. Your intestines NEED a good workout! Sugar, except what is in my allowed portions of fruit, is no where to be seen in my house!! I have a little agave, maple syrup or beet syrup by the TEASPOON occasionally! I do not do well eating rice even though it is on my diet if I am trying to lose weight. Beans such as Great Northern, Navy and Pinto will stop any weight loss in its tracks if I overdo them. I do love them, though, and I do well if I simply watch my servings! I only add herbs and sea salt to mine. Delicious!
To me, a weight loss diet is simple. I do the things I mentioned above. If my weight loss slacks off, I simply eat smaller servings. But, believe me, I do not go around hungry! If I happen to need a boost in energy, I have a slice of fresh pineapple or a little watermelon. Works like magic. What do you mean by "half a large pineapple?" Wow!!! To the nth! Every single thing in your list for that drink contains sugar. No doubt, it tastes wonderful, but you are killing any chances of losing weight with that concoction. Instead, eat a piece of fish or a turkey burger with plenty of turmeric and other seasonings, a medium sized baked sweet potato and a huge salad with an olive oil, lemon (if you like it) and some nice herbs dressing. BTW, I am allowed very few soy products. Have a tad of ghee on your potato (however, I have mine plain because they are so delicious!).
I would think that you are bored mindless with eating the same thing every day. No wonder you succumbed to the sausage temptation! Believe me, I LOVE good sausages, but I avoid them like the plague. Nothing under the sun is worth that pain. But you need some staples around that will help you feel better not worse. Even a teaspoon of almond butter or peanut butter can taste like heaven under those circumstances, and they are very satisfying.
I am sorry about all the trauma that has been in your life in such a short period of time. I had a lot of losses one after the other like you, and it is very hard to look after yourself. But now it is time for you to do that. They would not have wanted it any other way. I finally came to the age-old conclusion that life is for the living, and we may as well make the most of it as we can. Take care of yourself.

jackster, if you get a chance, check out these links...Stress will raise cortisol levels and that all by itself can hinder weight loss. I would suggest meditation, tai chi, qi gong....all good calming things for blood type A individuals.

I feel for anyone who goes through the hard times of discouragements.. Nothing is so draining then the feeling of failure... PLEASE know no matter what YOU are NOT to blame.. sometimes it is just the body not cooperating..
What country are you in? What are the illnesses in your family? Until you see the connection between what we knew and what is, and what will be in future, you will just have to decide what it is you wish for..
I am impossible to drop weight, yet I feel so much healthier and so I stay the course. I know I postponed the onset of diabetes by a decade or more, I made me feel more energized then ever and still I have big issues.
I posted today about Diabetes and neuropathy, you might read that just to show you how much we fight with.. and doctors never talk about it..
Give your self the amount of selfpity sorry time as you need, then start fresh again.. there is always a good day ahead.. go for it.
When I see other peoples medicines schedule-I am happy to be here taking care of my health I only wish to drop weight more easily-life would be perfectionBeing 'here' creates understanding. BTD prevents damage from eating avoids. Thanks Dr D & your sups - all support and friendships

Totally agree.
Two beers a week???? That's two beers too many.
Way too much sugar. Way too much fruit.
Try something else for breakfast like a poached egg and some veggies.
I lost 15 lbs on this WOE, but it took about 6 years.
And what about exercise?

It took you 9 months to gain 40 lbs and you've been following ERFYT for 6 months. You feel better, breathe better and you notice your body is happier. Don't worry, you'll find your ideal weight.
Be who you are. Those who mind don't matter, those who matter won't mind.
Great advise here. One year is not a proper "yardstick" for this lifestyle. It seems to be a constant adding and subtracting of foods. You are finding that out. Give yourself credit for eating right and feeling better. That goes a long way.
I was eating A type foods for a long time but didn't lose any weight. I had other issues that were distracting me. Don't point the finger at only food. We are all very complex.
Regular exercise is something to consider. I've had a "jumpstart rebounder" for a month. I know I've lost inches but maybe not too many pounds. That's ok. When I use it in the AM I feel better during the day - mentally, emotionally, physically.
It's impossible to take it all in in "one fell swoop" Just digest what you can. It's all about learning and that's what we are all doing every day.
Lots of good, important advice..trust me when I say please take advantage of all of our experiences! You will find what is best for you. Nothing wrong with eating raw..I do eat some foods raw, but, your body might be telling you to change it up. I learned to rotate my foods so I reduced the risk of allergy to any one item( such as: I quit eating toast every single morning) My A- friend absolutely has to have some turkey, fish and lamb to be her best and keep weight off! I agree that if you are RH negative and/or a nonnie, you need a little lamb and naturally some fish! I did not lose weight on the A diet..only when I went to Geno type diet then swami, but then I never drank beer, white wine or all the sugars you eat. After swami my weight just fell off!
