I usually alternate eating some things raw and some things cooked. If you actually have an underactive thyroid, then it may be wise to use other raw greens for salad and eat your spinach cooked. |

The oxalic acid too. Will rob the sick thyroid of minerals it needs. |

Being on this diet has healed my thyroid. When I went on the BTD, my thyroid healed and I was able to go off my thyroid supplement for the first time in years. Since then I only needed it when I was pregnant to stop the hair loss. I'm able to eat all those foods that "inhibit" thyroid function and it no longer bothers me. Here's to healing. Hopefully, Lann, yours will heal over time as well. |

People think they’re doing right by consuming a lot of what is considered a healthy food like spinach. I doubt very many people have even heard of the spinach thyroid link. |

I am a bit confused about spinch too, I lightly cook spinach in omelette or just in olive oil, coconut oil, ghee or duck fat. I also have a little raw, as don't want too many oxalic acids in my system while my gut and other body organs are healing. I think other veg like cabbage, cauli, brussels sprouts cnan affect the thyroid in type O people. Other veg good for O are kale, swiss or rainbow chard, beet greens, aspar and onion. I did not know much about green beans, and for now, I've reduced my intake of green beens due to antinutrients mentioned in paleo books - same species as other legumes. For me, it is mostly green leafy veg, broccoli and lowest starch, low gi, root vegetables. Once gut heals, then most of our sensitivities, food intol issues and inflammation should subside. Stick with mostly animal proteins incl fish, eggs, good fats (incl ghee) and vegetables, low gi fruits, few nuts/seeds. Simple is sometimes better. |
