Hi everyone (and need I say - Merry Xmas). I am new here and actually joined today after reading two of Dr. Adamo's books which I received as presents!

I am an O-positive blood type as as such it seems I need to re-evaluate my bodybuilding supplements to an extent.

First is ordinary protein for use POST workout. I eat most of protein from food but I DO require powder supplements for convenience. I have been using whey protein if high quality e.g. http://www.myprotein.com/uk/products/impact_whey_protein
I don't really notice any negative effects from using it - supposedly it causes lectin release etc. Of course whey is in the avoid category and so it leaves soy protein (which evidently messes up hormonal levels - not good for a bodybuilder) and egg protein as far as I am aware. Egg white powder tastes disgusting though. Perhaps I am best taking amino acid pills (e.g. http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/univ/nitro.html) straight after a workout with high GI carbs (e.g. maltodextrin)? What do you reckon? On a side note I notice there are NO acceptable post-workout carbs for O-types like maltodextrin/dextrose/waxy maize starch or fructose. I was looking at vitargo which is essentially BARLEY starch which appears to be on the neutral list for O-types (http://www.bulkpowders.co.uk/s.....powders/vitargo.html)

The other protein I am looking at is Optimum 100% Casein: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/cas.html
As a bodybuilder I do not want to enter a catabolic state where during sleep, there is no protein in my bloodstream to be used and hence leads to muscle breakdown. Casein obviously mitigates this by releasing protein over several hours. However, much to my great disappointment, casein is greatly frowned upon for O-types. I wonder if a high quality product like this would be a big nono for a bedtime shake or if there is any alternative?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

There is pea protein powder as well.

This is an egg-rice powder formulated for O's:

It's pretty much up to you, your wallet, and how far you want to take it.

I would avoid the soy and whey or casein myself.

Hi Cosmos!! Great Christmas present you got there from a kind person/people?! I doubt you will get into "a catabolic state where during sleep, there is no protein in my bloodstream to be used and hence leads to muscle breakdown..." if you have enough O type proteins (mostly meat but vegetables have high levels of proteins too) in your diet!!

Compliant juices (such as pineapple or grape) can be used as after-workout carbs, right? If you're just looking for quick sugars, juice sounds like a good bet. Large quantities of juice are normally too carb-laden for O's, but with the amount of exercise you're getting, that shouldn't be a problem. Corn-based sugars are bad news for Os, and most (if not all) maltodextrin comes from corn.

It's very important for O's to get enough protein, and extreme exercise increases protein needs. It's probably better to continue consuming a "less than perfect" protein supplement than it is to skimp on protein consumption. The high-quality whey protein may be best choice for now, and even if you do find a better choice, it's probably fine to use up what you already have on hand.

There was a prior discussion of Os and bodybuilding, and I think somebody located a beef protein supplement. If you use the search feature on this website, you may be able to locate that thread and find any links posted there.

Cutting out wheat, corn, and potatoes are probably more important than cutting out non-compliant dairy. A high quality whey protein is probably "safer" than whole milk, non-compliant cheeses, or casein supplements. Consuming any "avoids" may slow down healing, but some are more toxic than others.

You may want to take a look at the Genotype Diet or invest in a personalized SWAMI. Whey protein supplements are OK for some O's (though certainly not all) when they're following a different one of Dr D's diets.

Thank you guys very much for your replies!

I did a search and whilst I didn't find the beef supplement, I did find a beef protein powder supplement which looks good with decent enough reviews. http://www.vitamingrocer.co.uk.....p;utm_content=146729
It has 2g of sugar only but has dark and white chocolate for flavouring. I assume overall this looks as solid an O-type friendly protein powder as can be found.

As far as post-workout carbohydrates are concerned it looks like all the aforementioned corn-based/wheat supplements are out. Pineapple juice etc I love and use but I can't afford them everyday as I workout at least once a day. What do you think of the vitargo I linked to? It says on this site that barley has wheat BUT is on the neutral list...

I guess the high quality casein supplement is totally out of the question - I suppose I can just make do with ordinary protein?

Best and thanks a lot again!

depending on how tolerant your body is to avoids like additives, oils, sugars and gums, etc......reason why I prefer DPN s protein powders....

think of testing your secretor status eventually to target your choices
