Today I managed to run over a package of rice cakes with my car. Since it was my mistake, I can't bring them back to the store. The contents of the package are completely crushed and flattened, but the outer package is intact, so the contents are still clean and safe to eat.

I hate wasting food. Any ideas on how to use this up? I'm thinking maybe a dessert  or snack type food.

Drizzle with ghee and sprinkle with powdered kelp or other spices and use it in lieu of popcorn. Or use for filler in meatloaf.

My first thought was some kind of nut butter ball...and then I found this..

You can change ingredients to make it compliant.  Although for an O, it looks perfect.

I would do gulfcoastguy's suggestion for "popcorn".  But I like to lightly toast (in toaster oven) rice cakes before eating to bring out the nutty flavor and crispness.  Then drizzle with ghee and sprinkle with salt if needed, and onion and/or garlic granules, and nutritional yeast if you eat it.

Thanks for the links Chloe. I think I'll make those "cakeballs" as soon as I get some more almond butter.

That savory option uses bigger pieces of rice cake than I currently have. These are already crushed into crumbs. Amazing what the tire of a minivan can do to a measly package of rice cakes.

Two days ago a grapefruit rolled out of my grocery bag onto garage floor...got stuck underneath my car -- unable to reach it.... forgot about it, thinking I'd get DH, when he came home from
work, to take something like a broom handle to push it so I could pick it up....It's been there since Saturday....Backed my car out of the garage this afternoon and SPLAT.....puree of grapefruit.  Wasn't thinking of making a recycled treat ........Glad it was warm enough to hose down my tires and the garage floor!

Yeah...  Rice cakes don't support much weight!  I'm surprised you have anything more than powder...

Rice cakes thoroughly crushed make a good "breading" for fish, etc. instead of the traditionally used flour.

My favorite thing to do with rice cakes is make mock Cracker Jacks.  And it's especially compliant for most type As as it uses peanuts and molasses (although any compliant nut would work just as well).

I take about 4-5 rice cakes (plain) and break into pieces...small pieces -- think of popcorn pieces.

Here's where it gets tricky because I don't generally work from a recipe (and never had one) so it's
an eyeball thing.  In a small pot, pour in some molasses....I know this is going to sound funny, but
it's a few glug glugs....(if anyone can translate glug glugs, I'd say it's about 1/3-1/2 cup of molasses)
And then it's about 2-3 tsp of ghee....

You're just going to boil this....and it's likely to start bubbling up to the top of the pot if the pot is
too small....but I generally use a one quart pot and it's fine..

You're trying to get the molasses and ghee boiled down to where it's getting thick....takes about
3 minutes or so....but not so thick it's starting to solidify.....It takes a bit of practice to get this
to the right consistency.

I usually put my rice cake pieces into a very large bowl so I can stir quickly and get the pieces
completely covered with the molasses mixture....but you have to work quickly as the molasses hardens fast.

Oh, forgot to mention.....a handful of peanuts, usually dry roasted and salted are mixed in with
the rice cakes..

When you've got everything well mixed, immediately turn this onto a piece of waxed paper or
parchment paper and spread the pieces out with a fork or spatula so they're not clumping together.

And then let cool.  I usually refrigerate the mixture after fully cooled and make sure the container
is covered.  And it lasts until it's gone...It doesn't get soggy...It's the perfect sweet and salty fake
Cracker Jack.

can be part of a trail mix with nuts and compliant chocolate.

or fry 'em in ghee for a hearty snack.


My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant.  Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index.  DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.

Between the car-crushed rice cakes and the over-ripe bananas in the house, I think we'll go with the rice cake balls recipe. I may need to  buy more almond butter first, though.
