Does any type O or 'Hunter' eat miso or tamari sauce? I know it is on avoid list and that type O may not benefit like some other blood types/genotypes. I like miso soup in colder weather but also would like a bowl of miso soup every day so long as I knew it would not cause any long term problems or damage - I eat a little seaweed every day as like the minerals, flavour and ease of digestion. I sometimes spread miso and tahini on a rice cracker! And tamari to season stir fried vegetables, or other dishes ie vegetable nishimi. just wondering. Are there any other type O's who just like a little fish, not all the meat, eggs, etc. I think I would like fish once or twice a week; fish eat sea vegetables; so I should get my omega fats, I also have walnuts and pumpkin seeds. My system really does not like much of animal protein, some fish seems ok, like the macrobiotic books say. I also needs lots of vegetables and rice, and feel more centred, calm and stronger with mostly grains/vegetables and not too much fruit (fructose overwload maybe for me). So long as I chew well and take time with eating, I feel good. Any comments? REgards to all.

check your secretor status, then decide which genotype you might end up being.....
swami might be targeted to your needs....if these you mention end up being beneficials, by all means, add them to your mealplan
both are toxins deep blue highly inflammatory for me, but to each their own

We're all unique individuals, and the "book diets" simply can't be tailored for every individual!
Are you 100% sure of your blood type? Have you carefully double-checked the measurements to make sure you're a Hunter (which you wouldn't be if your blood type is wrong.)
Even if all that is correct, you still might be one of those people whose "personalized diet" varies widely from the diet in the book. You can invest in a SWAMI, or you can experiment on your own to see what works best for you.
Low fruit and lots of vegetables make sense for an O, but wanting/needing more rice and less animal protein sounds "wrong" to me. So either you're not really an O, you're not eating the ideal diet for you, or you're a very atypical O who needs more grain and less meat than the typical O.
Seaweed is certainly healthy for any type. You may do better eating more bone broth and less miso soup, or at least using miso in a fish broth and using smaller amounts of miso. You may also be craving miso for the probiotic benefits; if you ate compliant cultured foods (such as culturing compliant vegetables) you may find that you lose your taste for miso.
In stir-fries, I do sometimes use a wheat-free tamari, but usually I increase the other spices, add sea salt, and skip the tamari. Ume plum vinegar works well in most Asian dishes, as an alternative to tamari or salt.

thankyou for your great comments. Yes I am definitely type O, and pretty sure I am a 'hunter'. I think I should eat more meat, just that my system is weak and not working well. perhaps I eat too much at one time, or maybe I should eat meat at lunch time, not sure. Ayurvedic doctors say we should not eat animal protein as we get older, and menopausal women avoid it, I don't know. I know women following Mark Sisson's primal diet, say their menopausal symptoms improve with eating meat, fish, pork, etc. I do make cultured vegetables, don't like them that much, but I eat them to strenghen my system. You are right, I should try some other things, broth. I find it a bit hard buying and handling bones, as I had previously wanted and tried to be vegetarian and macrobiotic, so get a bit queasy, just think of the animals, I know it may sound odd. I actually do like eating fish, duck, and recently I ate goat at a shopping centre eatery, so think I am a Hunter, as I also like salmon and sardines, and lamb chops. So, it is a slow process for me, challenging. Thanks again and I'll stay in touch. I tried to make fish broth recently, but the scales kept getting stuck in teeth! I'll keep thinking of all this, sand experimenting. Bye.

ayurvedic principles and more have been factored into swami
give it a try, it will also compute your genotype for you

I can't have tamari, but toasted sesame oil with salt normally hits the spot. Ume boshi plum vinegar works well in some things also. Seaweed is another good flavor.
Coconut aminos are another option, but coconut is usually an avoid for most O types. It would be the lesser evil for me since soy does make me a bit sick.

When you don't eat meat for a long while, stomach acid decreases. Stomach acid also decreases with age. Non secretors also have less stomach acid. A's have less stomach acid than O's.
As you increase animal protein, given your body has ability to make it- it will ramp up. I found putting meat in a "Magic Bullet" blender gave the meat more surface area as I came off a mostly vegan diet. Chew well.
O's need more protein and tend to get grain addictions (especially when not getting enough protein and fat)
Please don't eat pork, ever.
I think SWAMI would be a marvelous option for you, more choices.

Thankyou all or your comments, I will follow up, in due course. maybe Swami next year. Is anyone concerned about the saturated fat or cholesterol in meats, fish, etc?? or the toxins/antibiotics, etc. I know organic and grass fed beef may be better, but isn't animal protein very acidic - high protein, esp cooked - is it good for us? uric acids etc??. My system becomes sluggish when consuming anything from an animal, maybe a little ghee is ok, also meat heating during warmer weather and my liver seems to hot anyway - I keep needing celery, etc to cool down. I made chicken soup, but did not really enjoy eating chicken.....And, many people talking about how cooking food destroys nutrients, etc. not sure if I can eat raw meat yet, althogh I have eaten raw salmon. I did a mostly raw diet rcently, my system worked better than ever, so long as I had soaked nuts/seeds, and avocados, olives and some fennel seeds. But then due to deficient kidney or spleen/stomach yin, I then went downhill, and chronic fatigue set in again. sometimes lifestyle factors can worsen things too for certain constituional types. I wonder if one can get protein from chlorella, spirulina, brewers yeast??. In the book, 'Conscious Eating' by Gabriel Cousens M.D., he gives ideas for Vata types to get onto and thrive on a raw/live vegan type diet. That's right, I don't eat pork, although used to when I was younger. Thanks for the tips (MelissaJ) for me getting off some salty soy products. I am concerned as many people I know have died due to different diseases and my biological mother died age 37 from colo-rectal cancer. My intuition is saying to go more raw vegan - maybe some raw meats/fish, I really must think and research more. Would be more economical to avoid animal products too, plus better for the environment. I also watched a dvd where a quote from a bible said not to eat meat with blood in it, I know that kosher meats have the blood drained. I don't know that much about this yet, still watching the dvd. Does anyone eat bee pollen for protein?? regards and take care.

I'm not the slightest bit worried about saturated fat or cholesterol from animal fats. Our O bodies are designed to digest these. It's the carbs that mess up our circulatory systems, not the fats. High triglycerides are just as unhealthy for the heart and blood vessels, and that comes from too many carbs.
I don't like eating a lot of hot food in the summer either. I still ate cooked meat and fish, but I ate a lot of it cold in salads rather than eating it hot. I'd often open up a can of fish for lunch and cook meat at dinnertime, and some days I'd have cold leftover meat with lunch. I love soups in the winter, but it's really not a summer food.
Yes, you can get protein from chlorella, yeast, etc, but not for all of your protein needs. You still need some animal protein daily. But if your body isn't used to eating a lot of meat, you may not have the digestive enzymes in the right amounts, and you may do best increasing your meat intake slowly.

Thanyou, Ruthiegirl for your comments, it's good to hear from other O's. It's reassuring, as I was and am really concerned about the fat - a lot came out of the lamb I recently cooked and I know that salmon has lots of cholesterol/fat - (I read humans already produce all the cholesterol we need (unless this is not true), I agree that too many refined/simple carbs (from grains or some sweeteners) are not good, they have caused me probs so yes I know - I only need a little sugar or refined flour to have pain in my muscles etc. I agree, my enzymes may be deficient, plus acid in stomach, so yes, I may have smaller amounts for now and chew well, and see how it goes. thanks. So, even though fats contain toxins, antibiotics, hormones etc, is it okay, I mean does our digestive system get rid of all this acidic fat which some people say coats our arteries, as I heard it is stored in fat of animal and fish ie mercury and ddt?? in fish/seafood. I am just wondering and curious.

It's best to get organic meat which doesn't have antibiotics or synthetic hormones in it. There are those who say, if you can't get organic meat, to avoid eating the meat fat because of the toxins, but then you should make it up by adding healthier fats to the meal (such as olive oil or ghee made from organic butter.)
I personally don't worry too much about it. I buy the best meat I can afford and eat some of the fat with the meal.

I am interested in the comment about coconut aminos, as a friend gave me some as a gift. My husband loves to cook Asian, and as a B he can't do sesame (or soy! though he does tamari anyway!). Seems like coconut would be a less toxic choice for both of us. Does anyone know what Bragg's is made from?

I think Bragg's aminos is a soy based one, just not fermented like tamari, but please check on bragg web site. coconut aminos not as salty as tamari, a slight sweet taste.
