It's interesting that coconut oil, on the BTD, is an avoid for nearly everyone, except for O non-secretors. But with the genotype diet, my Nomad son gets coconut oil as a superfood and when SWAMI changed my genotype from Warrior to Teacher after entering the results of my Meyers-Briggs personality test, coconut oil moved from complete avoid to superfood.
My understanding is this: Teachers and Nomads are tolerant genotypes, making us particularly susceptible to microbial overgrowth. Coconut oil has excellent anti-microbial properties which explains why our genotypes often are allowed coconut oil. Sugars, on the other hand, can easily disturb the gut flora and encourage microbial overgrowth. I don't think honey and agave syrup have those properties, but I would be suspicious about coconut sugar being just as good for you as coconut oil. I hope this makes sense. |
