Help a newbie out...according to all the genotype selectors in the book, my A+ husband is supposed to be a teacher, but he can't eat soy, dairy, or wheat, so this doesn't make any sense to me. He is severely lactose intolerant! Can you be lactose intolerant or gluten intolerant and a Teacher?

The Explorer seems to be the only diet that skips all three, and it can be A+, so I think this must be the one for him--but it would mean he couldn't eat nuts, eggs or any of the fish we can usually buy. In fact it's not clear to me what Explorers do eat for protein--just meat I guess, although beef and chicken seem to be only neutral and not recommended. It really looks like the most restrictive diet.

I did all the measurements--the only things I don't know are the other blood tests. Maybe I will have to get them done to figure this out?

BTW I tried to search this on the forums but couldn't figure out how to limit the search to just the GTD boards, much less the specific genotype forums. And I didn't find anything. If someone can tell me how to do a better search, I'm happy to look through the archives!

Welcome.

The search feature here: http://www.dadamo.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?v-search/

(link in banner bar)

Has the capability to search through one or more specific boards and with a custom time review setting. You do need to use a search term, finding the appropriate term yields better results.

I think the issue here is how much digestive tract damage has been done from previous avoid ingestion.  My suggestion is to focus on the foods he can eat that are not avoid - obviously as many beneficial or superfoods as possible, and utilize some supplements to help heal (and rebuild the flora balance in) the intestines.  Intrinsa, Deflect, and Polyflora are great for this, although there may be some other ideas come your way.

It may be that he would benefit most from SWAMIXpress...  It is a blending of BTD ad GTD based on your measurements (more than the book utilizes in the tables) and medical history.  For difficult to analyze cases, it is really helpful.

My son (also A+ and with the same sensitivities) did a gut-healing protocol by Bio Ray and did get better, although the main thing was stopping gluten. He can't eat oats or corn either.

My husband has obviously been dairy intolerant all his life. As an infant he was deemed allergic to cow's milk and given goat milk. He had asthma and lots of respiratory reactions to dairy. (You may well ask why he ever started eating dairy again, but I can't give you an answer.) My son can tolerate certain cheeses but my husband really can't. He may be sensitive to casein as well or just allergic.

So I don't think the dairy issue is likely to be one of damage rather than genetics.

Welcome, rivitex!

The above advice is best.
I will just add that I am an A+, secretor with an adverse reaction to most soy, cow and goat products! I am also gluten sensitive.
My swami gives me many soy foods as superfoods yet I know that my body cannot tolerate them. It is all individuality!
One of the best things I learned when I started BTD then GTD was that we need to listen to our bodies! Even if we are allowed a food... it doesn't mean that all of us in that same category are going to be able to eat/drink it.
There are many teachers on this forum that enjoy soy with great results. There are a few, like me, that do not consume much or any at all...and we are also thriving!
The beauty of "one size doesn't fit all!" I love my swami and recommend getting one.
