Nicotine is a Monoamine Oxidase inhibitor... not good for O's. Having said that, and I'll be ridiculed for saying this, I do believe there are worse things for your health than tobacco use. |

Might still be hormetic... 1 cigarette per day or so. |

I would imagine this would not be a good idea for someone with a family history of heart disease or cancer. My sister had a heart attack at 59. She was an occasional smoker. Although all of my male cousins on my father's side have heart disease, only one female cousin has heart disease. Her doctor felt it was likely the occasional cigarette smoking and stress that contributed to her heart attack. |

Not for this A family. My sister smoked up until 57 years old and she only quit because she was told by the doctor that she was going into emphysema. She also got osteoporosis from smoking. Now she smokes an electronic cigarette so she can still get the nicotine. Well it's the lesser of the two evils. |

Like anything else, there is a wide range of individualization to take into account. Maybe the addictive effect doesn't hit everyone the same way. I smoked one cigarette a day through grad school and never wanted more than that. Many decades later, I wouldn't subject my lungs to the smoke, but who knows .. ? |

funny movie. I remember it. I smoked off and on for about 10 years..quit for 3 went back from hanging around smokers... I finally quit when I was getting a smoker's cough. I got scared. I quit cold turkey 24 years ago and never looked back. .. So happy I did Look at George Burns. Smoked cigars. Lived to be 100. Some people can handle it. |

I think there's a big difference between "modern cigarettes" and organic tobacco in a pipe and/or cigar. I've read that there are a lot of additives in the cigarettes besides the tobacco- I read that they put sugar in there, and then there are carcinogens in the paper they use for the outside, not to mention the pesticides used in tobacco. I'm not sure if tobacco is a GMO crop or not, but it's certainly bred for higher nicotine content than "ancient" varieties of the crop. It's kind of like the difference between spelt and modern wheat.
I can see the point to this, especially for individuals who live in places without air pollution. Also bear in mind that one cigarette a day (or the equivalent in a pipe or portion of a cigar) is a REALLY small amount. Most "smokers" smoke several packs a week. |

I suppose one bullet is good for you, if it misses, just a shame you don't know which one will miss Also the idea of a "good quality" cigarette is probably difficult to find. where money = greed, profits out way quality. more and more and since only 20 % of smoking animals live longer but are fatter and unhealthier, I'd be a non smoking animal. really..... where all these test done using the same brand, lies statistics and ,ore statistics lol |

But we can grow our own tobacco, can't we? |

I don't know. I've never tried. I mean, it's certainly possible to put tobacco seeds in the ground and let them sprout, and it will probably work. It will work well with marijuana seeds too- but you can be arrested for that particular weed. I don't know the laws about growing tobacco, as it's not something I'm personally interested in doing. I don't need to add tobacco smoke to my body for hormesis; I think I get enough car exhaust from living in NY. |

Everyone I know that smokes cigarettes in moderate to lower quantities, yet eats lots of vegetables and less wheat, are certainly a lot healthier than the other people I know that drink soda and eat refined wheat all day and the such. |

I smoked in college and grad school but was never a true smoker. It was not hard for me to stop either. |

Even tho I think I am somewhat addictive, I also could smoke one cigarette a day. That was so many years ago. The last one was smoked in 1967! Now in my 60s, I am tempted to smoke one once in a while, but the costs of insurance if you are a 'smoker' are higher. Do I smoke one a month & then have to pay $20 a month more? No! |
