Or any other spice for that matter. I have a bunch that I haven't used in a while, and I'm wondering if they're still good. All dried stuff. Well, I have some vanilla that's been in there for a couple of years. I'll see if they have dates on them. Some don't though I don't think.

The cloves I have has a date, but the nutmeg doesn't.

I once looked up all my can and spice goods for dates, companies are suppose to use date now, but they used codes in the 70 (when I was doing this) I went to each manufacturers site, was able to find the meanings for the codes on ever site. So you might look there for your answers.
I have some spices I got at the Asian store, I need to see about them.
I say whole nutmeg is good as long as it has been kept in a sealed container (not a paper bag) and it still has flavor and aroma left. Same with whole cloves, whole cardamom, cinnamon sticks and vanilla beans. Vanilla extract that is pure vanilla in bourbon or other alcohol will last for years.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there is alcohol in the vanilla.
The cloves I have is powdered of course. I do have some whole ones also. But the powdered cloves have a date on it anyways.
