I am a Nomad and was looking to make my smoothies more filling, so someone suggested I use psyllium husk powder. I used 2T in my smoothie early this week, and have been feeling very bloated the past couple days. I'm also not as regular as usual. I do drink lots of water, use many different oils in my food prep, and am very active. Is psyllium a "no no" for Nomads? |

SWAMI is great but its focus is food rather than supplements, so psyllium is not listed there. |

Quoted Text Dr D Psyllium seems to make O's rather gassy. An alternative (albeit one full of coloring) is "Citrucel" which is made from methylcellulose. Quoted Text Dr D Psyllium can also cause darkening of the intestinal lining, which can sometimes result in weird signmoidoscopy results I like using the search feature to build my own opinion http://www.bing.com/search?cp=1252&FORM=FREESS&q=Psyllium&q1=site%3Adadamo.com |

Psyllium husks don't agree with my sensitive gut. I use freshly ground golden flax seeds and chia seeds in my smoothie. Great fiber, protein and healthy fats. |

| Some of us in our family take psyllium drinks, including my 16 year old Nomad son. He takes about 1 Tablespoon mixed in about 8 oz. very diluted apple juice (about 3 parts water to one part juice). The juice is to make it more palateable. He then immediately chases it down with another 8 oz or so water. I strongly emphasize immediate hydration upon taking psyllium. It's not enough to be drinking your recommended daily allowance of water if you're not taking LOTS of water right with the psyllium. I also tend to think 2 Tablespoons is too much to have at once. I am not surprised you felt bloated after taking it the way you did. I think psyllium in general has good colon cleansing benefits, but I think how it's taken is very critical to its success. Just my 2 cents worth. Coleen |

Thank you so much everyone! Your comments are greatly appreciated. I used freshly ground flax seeds before and am going back to that again since it's much more agreeable for my body. 2T of flax meal doesn't have an adverse effect. Thanks again and have a very Happy Father's Day! |

I have been taking psyllium husks for years but I use only one tablespoon in juice along with ARA 6, lecithin and cod liver oil. Then I chase this down with plenty of water. |
