Any opinions on weather or not to get the Flu shot?

I NEVER got them growing up. But have had them for about 4-5 years now.

I've had mixed results: mostly good, though.

I think there might be some controversy regarding the matter--maybe it's between the Homeopaths and the "Allopaths" (spelling?)

I started a thread on it. I am on iPod so I cannot call up the thread but search under flu vaccine. I posted less than 3 weeks ago.

I will not be getting the flu shot, and neither will any of my children. You need to do your own research and make a decision you're comfortable with.

Remember that you can get the flu shot and still end up with another strain of influenza that isn't in this year's shot. You can also get the flu shot and come down with pneumonia, or pertussis, or any one of many "nameless" bacteria or viral illnesses.

If you don't get the flu shot, you're guaranteed not to have a vaccine reaction.

I got the vaccine and I have my reasons for it (as discussed on my thread on the flu vaccine) http://www.dadamo.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-alttreat/m-1314585420/s-0/

I had a reaction to the mercury from the vaccine (only noticed it because I am much healthier than last year and the year before) because my body was displaying mercury detox symptoms (which is brutal in itself).

I am hoping that I will be much healthier immune systemwise to not have to get the flu vaccine. For now, I am still loading up on elderberry tea, elderberry syrup, and using Thieve's Oil.

I only had it once some years ago and was really sick after it and had to go to the Homepath to get help.  But I was not in good shape, but I'm still nervous about doing flu shots and probably won't.

Perhaps you should look at Triple Flu Defence for 2012 I saw it mentioned in a post from Steve nenninger or perhaps Dr D does one too. or from a health store

sounds good. i think this winter i'll "abstain".

the MAIN reasons i did it the past 5 years is because, WHEN i got the flu, it was so nasty i ended up in the hospital 2 years in a row.

MOSTLY due to back pain (i've had 3 surgeries!)

But my back is getting stronger since my last surgery 9 months ago.

PLUS, i haven't been sick since starting the BTD--of course, the weather has been nice since April too....

As I take public transport to work daily I've had the flu shot for about three years running now with no adverse effects. That didn't stop me from catching whooping cough this winter though, apparently immunity is not lifelong and you need a booster shot in you 20's. I wish someone had told me that earlier, I would have asked for that booster and save myself three weeks of abject misery and non stop coughing, believe me this cough monopolises your life 24/7.

I caught every bug doing the rounds this year so I'm determined to build up my immune system via the BTD in time for next winter. I would still get the flu shot though, public transport is one giant germ bank.

You may want to make sure you get enough Vitamin D and Vitamin C. I also drink echinacea-elderberry tea and elderberry syrup (as told to me by Mayflowers) since they prevent cold, flu, etc. Elderberry was found to prevent pneumonia.

I made my own hand sanitizer with Thieves' Oil (I posted the recipe). It is also safe enough to drink as a tincture in your tea and make throat spray. The mixture is potent enough to kill MRSA, though. You may want to look into making it since it costs a lot to buy the pre-made stuff.

The flu shot won't protect you against whooping cough. You'd need the pertussis vaccine (which, in the USA at least, is lumped together with diphteria and tetanus vaccines) to protect against pertussis.

No vaccine can protect you against "the common cold". Even if you get every vaccine available, you still need to boost your immune system to stay healthy.

Some of my immune builders:

- good quality of foods and water!
- lanoline based D-vitamin
- natural C-vitamin like camu-camu, pure acerola, Madre-C
- natural B-vitamin like inactivated nutritional yeast
- raw (olive oil marinated) onions with garlic, chili, cayenne, ginger, herbs and salt
- ginger tea
- bee pollen and other bee products
- chaga tea and other wood-grown mushrooms (hot water extracts): reishi, cordyceps, maitake, lion's mane...
- spirulina and chlorella

- oh yes, I forgot horseradish.

He [Jesus] is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

The additives are scary to me.
As your diet improves, so will your immune system.  Take a good dose of vitamin C before going on public transportation - and maybe afterward if someone sneezes near you. Take extra D in the winter & get out in the sun in the summer. (Sorry I didn't remember your location.)

I learned the hard way this time from my flu shot. Ugh. I am seriously hoping that I will never ever have to get a flu shot again!

I am a bit irked at my allergist. I had a partially collapsed lung and pneumonia with asthma. She told me to do indoor exercise (meaning yoga, stretching, etc.). In order to get my lung function back up, I really need to do cardio. She did not want me swimming, jogging or anything and did not want me doing outdoor activities.

My immune system has improved since I started GTD and I am jogging/walking daily now. My lung function is starting to improve just from my being outdoors!

I decided not to be too upset over how the doctor held back my progress. At least I know my health is on its way to improvement.

I am keeping my vitamin D levels as high as I can and doing a lot of C.

I love the thieves blend and use it a lot around the house but I will be using it on myself next winter, the amount of people on the train that don't cover their mouths when coughing is disgusting!

People sure do disgusting things. I was at a store the other day and a woman's baby barfed on her. She wiped it off of her leather jacket with her hand and wiped it into her more absorbent clothing and continued shopping, touching things with her contaminated hands.

Hello all BTD's,
I apologize for being away so long, but I have had other things going on in my life and hadn't been able to touch base with you all, so I am back now and hope to keep in touch with you good folks more often.
As far as the flu shot goes, I haven't had the flu shot for well over 3 yrs now. Have read some information regarding it and upon reading it, have decided totally against it. Like one member mentioned she is leary about the additives that are put into it. That is one of the reasons I won't take it. Those nasty additives can be hazardous to your health. Not only that, the CDC, big pharma and the FDA just want to make money off of you by pushing the vaccine and making it mandatory which I am just totally against, I do not think the govt. has any right to force you to take a vaccine that can harm your health. We the people should be able to decide ourselves if we want it or not. I am in big favor of strengthing the immune system by holistic and natural means rather by chemical means, and in fact, the flu vaccine does not strengthen your immune system by chemically injected you, it just suppresses your immune system and makes it weaker and more vulnerable to other strains of bacteria out there. That is just my general opinion. And I also think it is just terrible that they try and force it on little kids as well, they are scared of it and just cry something horrible when they get it and it upsets me real bad to know they have to suffer the bad end of the needle not to mention what is going inside their little systems.
If you all want to comment, feel free to do so, would like to read your opinions.
In holistic health,
footprints.

I don't have a problem with "kids and needles" per se; sometimes it's necessary to take blood for lab tests and I have no problem with that. It's possible to do so in a way that doesn't traumatize a child. What bothers me about vaccinating young children is the effect these vaccines (additives included) may have on their developing immune systems.
